As a gemologist who grew up in Tucson, Arizona and has spent a good deal of time at gem shows, behind the glass cases, appraising, or buying at the wholesale level- I find these documentaries amazing and fascinating. It puts so much more meaning behind the whole process/system - even though I knew where they came from and how difficult mining is- it shows how many people and steps each stone/specimen goes through before it ends up in its final place.
I married a Pakistani man from Abbottobad Northern Pakistan. We travelled through those mountains in 1985. It is so beautiful there. The people there are so physically beautiful. Of course outsiders never see the women. The most outstandingly beautiful in the world. The mountains are very high and I was frightened at those heights. I now understand why Acquamarine is so expensive.
I've bought ruby rough from a seller in Pakistan and a small aquamarine crystal. He's my most trusted seller and has sent me some beautiful stones. I've bought a few times from sellers out of India and have been ripped off. Needless to say I trust no one to sell me precious gems other than Pakistani people.
It's is true the people of gb is very beautiful and caring loving and popular because of there hospitality. But thing become so different 1985 from now is big difference if you visit now you will find them educated and advanced. Aquamarine is type of burial family which is expensive like emerald.
I really enjoy these documentaries ..shows how simple and little we need to survive,,,,HARDEST WORKING MEN....I pray for everyone safety especially in this time, 2020 Coronavirus 19..
Being a Citizen and Miner of the beautiful and Precious Valley ChumarBakor Sumayar I was thankful to Patrick Voillot for Such a peerless Documentry... Greetings from Northern Pakistan
I'm in awe of your documentaries. As I travel the world purchasing stones, this gives me a greater appreciation for those who dedicate their lives to mining, selling, polishing/cutting and designing these valuable treasures from our earth.
I now know why this is my birthstone, as it's a symbol of purity. My soul might not be pure, but my intentions are always pure. Also I love the mountains I feel connected to this stone even more. As a kid didn't like it that much as it seemed a girly color blue, now I see this spectrum of blue is simply pure and should be appreciated as such. Patrick your videos inspire me to travel more, I have been to Alaska, Great Britain, Costa Rica, Italy, Switzerland, and have seen alot of America also Canada a few times. Thank you Patrick for showing such diversity of this planet and its people.
Wow superb documentary. 👍👍 We in Pakistan even didn't know about our northern area and their rich resources. Today i came to know that aquamarine is produced/mine in Pakistan too. Thanks for your efforts.
Ahhhhh my beutifull heaven sumayar valley. Several time I have found lot of Aquamarine during mining... this highest mining place in the world more then 14000 feet to 16000 feet. Our Sumayarians people's are real champions of Mining entire world. Thanks God for gift our Chumar bakor. ....... Bow Baby..........
I would love to be able to gift these wonderful dedicated men modern fuses, respirators, and other modern mining goods. They gift us so much beauty but the human toll seems too harsh.
I really, really love these documentaries. The beautiful gemstones and how they form is great, but what makes these docs special is all of the information regarding the locales and locals.
There was a time, well over a hundred years ago when my ancestors worked the mountains for the bounties they held but these were not the greedy barons. Even today many in my communities work far underground for the coal. This is perhaps the best documentary I've seen yet! We are not so different really after all not really.
Aquamarine and emerald are different forms of beryl, which is beryllium oxide. Near Quadville, Ontario is a rock hounding site called the Beryl Pit. Many different kinds of collectible stones are found there. The beryl there ranges from deep blue to an aquamarine color. It is all opaque. The beryl pit was an active beryllium mine before WW2. In those days large crystals were excavated.
@@wanjae Agreed both Kulbhushan and Abhinandan are our gems and we are proud of both of them. While one is still serving our country the other is a Navy veteran. None of them resorted to heinous crimes like terrorism. They are our heroes and remain as heroes for all civilized societies.
It is because these communities are small and self-regulating with minimal interference from the central government. They need each other in order to survive. This is the way small indigenous communities are all around the planet. I've experienced such indigenous communities in South America. They are an example for all of us.
Voillot Patrick thank you for making such a marvelous documentary of my district. A little mistake in this video i found is believe of the villagers on shamanism but it may due to translation error. the villagers are believers in God and are Muslim so they don not see shaman as God or any authority. they use shamans words as just prediction not as message of God.
Amazing documentary 📹👍! Wish it was longer a bit longer. What beautiful pieces they uncover there🗻⛏️🔷! Those guys are as tough as nails doing that type of work! 💪😎💪
The jewellery in the end was very beautiful , but more beautiful was the raw gemstone and most beautiful was your travel detail with all the geographical details and information of local community who mine them .
7:50 From a direction/production/cinematography standpoint, the level of professional excellence required to dynamically execute an aerial pull-to-wide shot which can rivet a viewer’s attention is a homogeneous amalgamation of creativity & technology.
To watch the men who live difficult lives to bring these stones to light, and then see a beautiful woman being helped into a striking necklace is very thought-provoking.
You have contributed fabulously in gemstones documentaries...all of the documentaries are professional and show the glimpse of the society where they are behind mined... Perfect Love from Pakistan
Wow amazing but I have stone akik the color red like but not totally red one of my friend Umer from Pakistan he gave me then we go sharjah made the ring I love this ❤️👏🏼👏🏼

Pure gems for pure souls...... I love your documentaries. I have only recently begun to investigate crystals, and in particularly how they are mined. 😎🥰🌍
Overall really good effort man , once i Had a crystal of 392grams of aqua but i sold it so cheap, i am a also a stone dealer , shigar and bata kundi has rear emerald and aquamarine which u never see in any other country, stay blessed man
Good, God. I've never seen such stones before. Such ethereal beauty. I wonder what they would be like to hold. I get such a buzz from some stones, especially ruby.
Every time I watch one of your docus I think: how interesting, this is the best one they made. But this time you showed us exceptional stuff. This is the Dom Pedro of your films. Thank you so much to let me see where my 3 rough aquamarines come from. ( All of 3 bought by Pakistani sellers during 2010s mineralogical evenements in Amsterdam & Den Haag...). Maybe I will find the resources to join your projects, after Covid restrictions, family stuff, and Job obligations, that put my aim into a really flimsy perspective, but...? My will is strong! Just a matter of luck and I'll follow you on the real-life track, even if not on 5000 m high mountain. I will settle for something less challenging, that doesn't imply going above 2000 m, where I m already have been and was tiring enough for my body. My real aim? Find my spiritual-enhancing stone.

A good coverage of Gemstone Trade Components, from artisnal mining to market, the subsequent lapidary processes, and manufacturing into jewellery. This is just one example of harsh and difficult climate and terrain, where miners extract Aquamarine, a single variety of Gemstone, to play their role in the most essential beggining part of supply chain, and ultimately the end user enjoys the outcomes of this adventure. Everyone who could support, should facilitate these miners for improved and safe mining techniques, by training and technology upgradation.
