@@abhishekab1 -- I guess you may be right ( that 5th is great) as I am not aware of the history behind Indian athletics. This may be a case where one has to put things in perspective, as in the world of sports, we are accustomed to celebrating gold, silver and bronze...and even so when the underdogs emerge as winners. Anyways, congratulations. I recall in 1998 the tiny nation of Jamaica qualified for the finals of the FIFA World Cup after beating Japan. They finished third in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying, but it was celebrated as if they had won the cup. cheers

This quartet all have pb and regular 400m timing of 45 sec and improving on that and there are few others also in the country apart from them. When outer athletes start to converge in the innermost lane, this is a disadvantage for the innermost athletes as outermost athlete gets headstart and then converges inward.
I don't know how do they ensure fairness . This is what Chat GPT told me after I enquired 2-3 times using correct prompts
[Chat GPT] : To address this discrepancy and maintain fairness, race organizers use staggered start positions to account for the difference in lane lengths caused by the curve. This means that the start lines for each lane are adjusted, with runners in the outer lanes starting ahead of those in the inner lanes. This equalizes the distance each runner must cover, despite the varying lane lengths.
However, you are correct that the randomness of when outer runners move to the inner lanes during the final leg could potentially lead to minor variations in the distance covered. While the staggered start helps to address this issue, it's important to acknowledge that perfect equality in terms of distance covered in a relay race, particularly in the final leg, might be challenging to achieve due to the complexities of the curved track and the position changes.
Race officials and technology still play a significant role in ensuring fair competition by closely monitoring the race for rule violations and deviations from designated lanes. While there might be some very small variations due to the convergence towards the inner lanes, the overall fairness of the race is maintained through a combination of accurate track measurements, staggered starts, and strict adherence to rules.
