    My parents were in Steubenville in the late 70's earlier 80's, I was born in Steubenville/ Wintersville in 1982 where my Dad grew up. My parents were sent to Birmingham AL and they started the Catholic Charismatic prayer group that is still going on today at OLS. I grew up not even a mile from EWTN... Both of my parents are gone now, but this makes me want to ask them so many questions... they both had extraordinary faith and I miss them so much.

    Please someone publish a book on this time period or make a documentary. It would be so amazing to fully understand how the impact that Franciscan U/Steubenville, OH has had on our Catholic Faith, came about.

    I was a part of it as well. I came into the faith during the years he spoke of. We had a group of young people in Alexandria, Louisiana who many became national speakers and ministers in the Catholic faith.
    I think believing in God’s power and grace was a huge factor. Also, desire to change hearts and save souls.
    There was real fire.

    I was at a Catholic Charismatic conference in Little Rock years ago & Ralph Martin, John Michael Talbot, & Fr Scanlon, wearing his red socks, all spoke & I was beyond joyful!

      So powerful! I miss my parents leading the prayer meetings and they played John Michael Talbot in the car all the time. They were in Steubenville in the late 70s early 80s. They are both gone now, but I wish I could ask them about those times again...

    I’ve heard this mentioned before be a few different, great, Catholic apologists, & I’m fascinated by what happened. I also remember hearing that in the late 60s or 70s Steubenville almost closed its doors, but Fr Michael Scanlan took the school back to heterodox, conservative Catholicism to end the school on a good foot, but it caused the university to bounce back into THE Catholic college in America. I’m a Protestant, but I know this school & the explosion from it is a work of God. I think a lot of us would love a book or documentary about all this.

      Orthodox beliefs = true beliefs, which are neither liberal or conservative there just ARE. Marriage is a Sacrament because it IS not because marriage is conservative or liberal.

    Wow - I've been significantly impacted by so many of the ministries mentioned in this video in the past few years and only now know that all of them came from a Steubenville band of friends. What an awesome parallel with the Apostles. As Our Lady and the Apostles gathered in the Upper Room awaiting for the Holy Spirit to descend upon them, all these ministry leaders gathered/incubated in Steubenville preparing to respond to a movement of the Holy Spirit. Our Lord commissioned and sent all them out to make disciples of all nations. He is working always. All glory to God!

  • @jkuebbing
    @jkuebbing 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    I’d add a 4th factor, and that’s the Chaput effect. The fact that so many of these apostolates came and incubated in Denver - and many remained - is a testament to +Chaput’s belief in the apostolic call of the laity. Coupled with, I’m sure, the knock on effect of grace from WYD 93. Loved this clip!

    JPII died while I was in the grad program at Steubenville. I remember thinking we lost such an immense protector and patriarch. Then I also remember thinking in my very next thought that Father Scanlan was like that, too. JPII was for the Catholic world what Fr Scanlan was for Steubenville. I specifically thought that Father Scanlan was the only other figure that felt very much like JPII to me in the sense that he was such an incredible shepherd. And at the time he was still alive, well and leading the University.

    I agree. I teach my Protestant 4th graders that we are custodians of what God has given us. If He gives us a lot, we are responsible for all of it, but none of it is ours. This especially applies to money, but also children, power, authority, talents, and everything else.

    As a former FU student, I would have been more interested in hearing about how Fr. Scanlan participated in the coverup of the sexual abuse of a female student by Fr. David Morrier, as well as the many scandals plaguing the school in recent years, such as the plot by certain administrators to incorporate LGBT-friendly policies, as well as the scandals that led to Fr. Sean Sheridan having to resign as president.
    Franciscan University has had a cancer growing in it for some time, and parents who are interested in a genuinely Catholic education would be much better off sending their children to Christendom or St. Thomas Aquinas.

    I think Jeff is wrong. Yes, the same exact group of people is not duplicatable but different people can come together under similar circumstances to take ministries in a new direction. Especially in a Novus Ordo-style Church that wants lay people to do more and more.

      You can’t. She needs to come to the USA DESPITE its craziness if you are both called to be in the USA. Just like we are called to be devout Catholics DESPITE the corruption and craziness in the Church.

    • @theignorantcatholic
      @theignorantcatholic 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess my comment was somewhat a joke?
      As for discernment of calling. Perhaps you can provide your thoughts on the best way to discern callings with your wife around things like this. That is if I was feeling a deep yearning to go to the US but didn't know whether it was a calling etc for my family. This is an interesting question...
      Personally, I feel that guiding your family is your calling and if you feel a yearning and your wife doesn't, perhaps your yearning is to merely help you guide your family in a particular spiritual discernment which leads to a calling toward another direction as a family. The yearning just helped facilitate it. For we all often yearn for heaven now and the things that are a part of that vision. But it is God who is sovereign over all these things.
