    I like the crow, it's my favourite character. It never betrayed me or anyone else, its noises and look are adorable and in some way it reminds me of the eagles of middle earth. And it never lied or tried to manipulate me, since it cannot speak.

      My favorite THING in Dark Souls is my Chaos Zweihander. What does this have to do with your comment you ask? My sword has never betrayed me,never deceived me,always with me,relentless of how I treated it. So yeah. Weapons are the best thing (characters included) from Dark Souls. : )

      Well, I guess you have a point there :). But my sword doesn't remind me at the eagles of middle earth. Apart from that, it looks fantastic, makes adorable noises while stabbing or smashing enemies, and it never lied to me because its inability to speak. :)
      But your comment made my day, thanks.

      @Irhak69 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      +Emil Palmer what if Velka is one of the Witches of Izalith? And the sin of Gods was to attempt to recreate First Flame (and blamed both Gwyn family and the Izalith)? ;)

    • @Irhak69

      +Ben Wil That's just the 1 we know. We met only 3-5 (Quelana, Quelaag, Fair lady, dead one? and guardian one - this one apparently human also!). I'm saying that one went rogue and discard the pyromancy. They were at the beginning sorceresses not pyromancers. What if she sees the creation of Chaos Flame as sin of the "gods"?

    • @benwil6048
      @benwil6048 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Irhak69 Hmm more likely it was Gwyn's rekindling of the flame since that one was 'the first sin' as SOTFS seems to say/imply. I'm a bit hazy on the details atm :P
      But maybe I suppose, its just that I thought (again hazy) that Vaati made vids about these witches and mentioned that Quelaag was the only one that escaped the transformations. Also you forgot the 2 that are next to the bed of chaos during the fight. I'll have to do some research again :P
      Which one is the guardian one though? :/

    • @snakemilthescienceeel2565
      @snakemilthescienceeel2565 8 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      Essay time.
      Also, Vaati said that Velka is a true Goddess, with so much power that the Lords fear her. This means that she is likely antagonistic towards the Lords, which I'll get to in a second. Since she is the governor of ALL sin in the world, it's probable that she is omniscient. That said, the narrator knows about the Age of Ancients; she knows about the Furtive Pygmy and the Dark Soul; knows about the prophecy, and knows about you. At one point, she actually talks to the player ("This is your fate"), and strangely enough, the saying in Oscar's family is known to a bunch of people ("Let me guess: Fate of the Undead, right? Well, you're not the first"). At that point, I believe she is choosing the player to go on pilgrimage, and kill the Lords, after which she sends a crow or goes herself to spirit you to Lordran. The prophecy doesn't address whether you're supposed to link the fire or let it fade, only that you have to ring the Bell(s) of Awakening and know the Fate of the Undead (which has you talk to Kaathe, who you meet after killing a Lord). In the light of that, she's probably the one behind the prophecy, and since she is almost definitely the one who sends you to Lordran, she is the catalyst for the entirety of Dark Souls.
      But hey, that's just a theory.
      A G@m3 theory.

  • @masterofcrow
    @masterofcrow 11 ปีที่แล้ว +187

    Could it have been that the voice in the prologue was actually Velka telling you of your fate? It would make sense, and your character seemed to be asleep so they could've just assumed it was a dream.

    • @kittymcjesus149
      @kittymcjesus149 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      And her telling you the entire prologue (Dragons and everything) is her reason for going against the gods. So she could be sympathetic towards the Dragons???

      A marvelous point indeed. I always thought it was strange how balance seems so key such as the reference to light, dark, life, death, fire, and desparity. The killing of ALL the dragons(except for the one in Ash Lake)seemed like such a middle finger to the order that was established at the beginning. Time to regain order by providing punishment.

      Wolfwaysinbed I think that the main sin of the gods is to call themselves "gods". My theory is that fire comes from dragons (dragons spit fire, don't they? ^^). The fire awaked humanoids, that killed dragons: THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE. And that's why fire is fading. The four lords killed their fathers, the real gods, the origin of the flame. That's a sin, and that's why Velka wants to punish them. Anyway, that's my speculation :)

    Velka, you said, is a true goddess, while the others only have lord souls. That to me says that Velka considers the others to be blasphemous defilers of the order of the world by uplifting themselves to her status. It's almost like the argument that Talos is/isn't a god in the Elder Scrolls series.

    • @grimmSOL
      @grimmSOL 10 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      Very good point. Its because of that reason I agree with interpretation #1. Velka is attempting to overthrow the false gods, which honestly is how I view them too after talking with Kaathe versus what Frampt has to say, by throwing a wrench in the works.
      And, in this case, a Chosen Undead is that wrench.

    • @carby212
      @carby212 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      If she is a true goddess then how in the world did she come into existence? I mean was she just chilling around when the world was ruled by dragons? If she didn't get her power from a lord soul then where did it come from?

    • @MrMaradok
      @MrMaradok 10 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      ***** This is just my opinion, but Velka is the goddess of sin, right? More than likely, she came into being just after the dragons, once the concept of sin came into being. She could easily find sinners among the dragons (Pride, Greed, Wrath, and Sloth to name a few) and found a larger crowd once the flame....thing....made the other races. Some gods need worshipers to survive, ah la Black and White (the game), but gods like Velka are not dependent on worshipers, as they represent a concept, an idea, or a simple reality, and are above the needs of worshipers. She is the goddess of sin and at the same time is sin incarnate. If that doesn't make sense, try reading the book On A Pale Horse, they go into more detail on concepts like this. (and it's a good book to boot.)

But what if she is not the prisoner, but the guard, that was set to stop Velka from leaving the painted world, because, even gods were frigtened of her? Think for yourself: Priscilla is next to the exit and she knows how to leave the painted world, Priscilla sais that habbitants of this world are kind (maybe they ARE kind and just guards of Priscilla, stopping Velka and her crow-people from running away. which also means, why crow people all are sitting on top of roofs), when Priscilla kills the chosen undead - she sais "don't you know why Ariamis created this world?". And the main: description of strange doll sais that "abomination clutched this doll tightly" which also means not grabbed, but incubate, like a bird.

      @@OtakuUnitedStudio She could be both a prisoner and a jailer though. Kill two birds with one stone (pun intended).
      Also, some of the lore inside the game seems to be intentionally misleading, in the sense that it describes what people inside the world _think_ that they know.
      For example, the dragon Kalameet is described as a cyclops, but the gem on his head isn't an eye. If you look very closely you can actually see his two tiny eyes beneath it. But it makes sense that no one who got close enough to notice this would live long enough to tell others about it.

  • @Xfushion2
    @Xfushion2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +109

    I don't think she is on Gywndolin side.
    My theory is that she was linked to the occult rebelion that tried to take on the gods, due to Gywn mistreat to humans, after all the occult ember is affiliated to her and the Velka's rapier has occult damage by default.
    After the rebelion failed they cast her followers away in the painted world and she was left alone.
    Then Anor Londo was abandoned with Gywndolin left behind ans since Velka had no longer the influence Gywndolin asumed her position.
    But here's the thing Gywndolin despite "hunting the sinners" he is a sinner as well, as his father he sees humans as simple tools, he lies to you about the state of annor Londo, tries to trick you with the false image of her sister and if you reveal the truth he does the possible to kill you.
    But if you go to Oswald, the only remaning Velka priest he absolves your "sin" form discovering Anor Londo's truth, and if you talk to Gywndolin after that he does not talk back, but he is not hostile either and is forced to let you join his covennant,
    So Velka is really the true leader of the Darkmoon covenant.
    And I agree on her wanting to punish Gywn after all is revelaed that the First Sin was Gywn trying in vain to extend the Age of Fire and unleashing the curse upon humans.

    I think the first theory fits best but needs some work. Despite the hostility of the enemies toward the chosen undead, they seem peaceful. The enemies aren't hostile toward each other despite being hollowed and supposedly having no reason. Also, the NPCs and hollowed enemies believed in and followed the gods. I think they are trying to protect the gods by throwing themselves at the chosen undead, in hopes of stalling his/her progress long enough for the gods to prepare for the chosen undead or completely blocking their path. Also, the chosen undead is mercilessly murdering just about everything in front of him/her with next to no motive. Why did he/she ring the two bells in the first place? Because they where told to do so by a knight who you have no reason to trust? Why did he/she pursue the souls of the Gods? Because two weird serpents with mustaches said so? I might be missing something here but nothing seems to add up.
    I'd also like to go back to the opening scene where you are given the key to your cell. I don't think it was by chance that the one undead that could slay the gods was released and transported to Firelink shrine in rapid succession. Also to me it seems a battle on the roof is nearly impossible. With the weight and strength of the demon, the battle between the demon and the knight along with the shattering of the roof where the knight should have been audible though out the asylum. I don't know how to explain then that a knight with the same equipment drops you the key without going into an insane improbably theory that I can't back, but it seems to well played out to be chance.

    I think Velka (and many of her traits) was inspired by ancient roman goddess Minerva (she had owls as her servants),
    and basically her intentions is to punish the whole race of +size humans for their attempts to become gods
    very probably that Balder and Berenike knights that became hollowed in Sen's fortress and Undead Parish, was provoked by Velka,
    and since this rebellion failed, the mighty Tarkus fell to his death in painting hall, and his compatriots the other two survived knights (one from Berenike and one from Balder) who eventually made it trough, betrayed the goals of rebellion and became servants of Gwyndolin,
    Velka finds and sends the chosen undead, a straight descendant of furtive pigmy, (a gifted human with strong will who can preserve his sanity even if hollowed) to unleash her wrath upon fake gods.
    And she actually transports chosen undead back to asylum, in order to acquire the key to the things fake gods afraid of: occult weaponry.
    And since there is two black knights appeared in the asylum, it's safe to presume, that black and silver knights aren't mindless,
    and probably following Gwyndolin's instructions

    I think Velka's involvement is more a combination of the two theories you put forward. The chosen undead and the unending age of fire brought about by the linking of the flame are both Gwyn's reward and retribution for his "sin" of refusing to let the age of fire die.

    Huh it just came to my mind after watching this and ENB, that Velka, Fina and such (the ones without the first flame) have nothing in common whatsoever with the Lords who became Gods later.
    I mean, for all we know, Gwyn and his knights and other lords may have just wrestled the divine power from the actual ancient Gods. That power they had to meke out punishment or forgiveness, like Velka, or to bless them with good grace, like Fina (or whatever her name is) is something that the Lords don't seem to possess at all, which is why they fear Velka.
    I'd say Fina was one among many who stayed with the Lords in Anor Londo maybe to watch over mankind and protect them as much as she could while Velka started the sort of hidden "rebellion"? Maybe Lautrec (of CARIM, which makes me think Fina and Velka were more closely related than Id imagine) was one of the chosen by Fina and entrusted to destroy Gwyn and the other Lords, thus leading him to Anor Londo, and explains why he would kill the Fire Keeper Anastacia just for the sake of it. Because he wants to extinguish the Flame...
    To me, it seems that Velka and all other real Gods are the ones with the correct judgement to their kind, the Furtive Pigmy, punishing the sinners but blessing the righteous. On the other hand, Lord Gwyn and his team of thugs are more like the Greek Gods, kind of assholes who like to make humanity believe they can't live without their light, while in fact they just control them to do whatever they please.
    Which is exactly what they do to us, through Frampt and other shady characters.
    Also an extra for those who don't know yet, Velka and Gwyndolyn are actually not allies, but enemies. There was cut content revealed of a covenant of Velka (WHICH WOULDA BEEN FUCKING AWESOME) where you'd get rewards for hunting down Darkmoon Blades.
    Just my late thoughts on this, I'm really fascinated with the character of Velka for some reason, so shady and mysterious. There's so much more about her that I think is possible to be true.

    I'm most likely wrong but I recall in an item description velka is referred to as "The black haired witch velka" and that makes me think velka wasn't actually a goddess, maybe she was just such an insanely powerful magic user skilled In both miracles and sorcery and had a strong sense of justice or retribution (whatever you'll call it) and was revered as a goddess throughout history because of her power that rivaled the lords

    Velka is the goddess of SIN. She was probably imprisoned by the Blades of the Darkmoon and escaped the Painted World by creating and using the Ring of Sacrifice. She took the form of the crow to mask her escape and frees sinners from purgatory.
    Vow of Silence says nothing about her hunting down sinners. The Mask of Velka mentions pardoners serve Velka and listen to the confessions of sinners, absolving them of sin. Thus, they free sinners from the watchful eyes of the Blades of the Darkmoon. By definition, pardoners SERVE sin.
    From Oswald of Carim's Dialogues...
    "Greetings.
    I am Oswald of Carim, the pardoner.
    Thou art a friend. For thee, a warm welcome.
    Cometh thou to confess? Or to accuse? For indeed all sin is my domain."

    • @MotoErgoSum
      @MotoErgoSum 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oh damn, I'm mistaken. A few other objects connect the link to the Blades of Darkmoon, but I still find it very odd that her pardoners would absolve sinners AND allow them to cast sin upon others. Seems like a game mechanic that only obfuscates the role of the Blades of the Darkmoon in lore vs the pardoners. Is Velka just a psychopath who sends her followers to deal with sinners while actively sabotaging that with her own pardoners?
      "The Goddess of Sin Velka oversees this list
      of the guilty, who have disrespected the Gods
      or their covenants, and shall one day face
      the wrath of the Blades of the Darkmoon."
      "For each sin there is a punishment, and
      it is the task of Goddess Velka to define
      the sin, and mete out the punishment."

    • @milesbennettdyson
      @milesbennettdyson 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not a psychopath--Velka is fair. Indeed--ALL sin is her domain, not just the sins done by one group against another, but by anyone's sin. The funny part is that Oswald gives you the "warm welcome" speech only if you've joined a covenant--if you avoid covenants before talking to him, he says that "even the unaffiliated" can partake of Velka's domain of sin, implying that when one joins a covenant one sins by betraying all other covenants (and if you leave certain covenants their members turn hostile until you absolve yourself of sin). But on the other hand, if you remain unaffiliated you are sinning by disrespecting allegiances with one group or another. You are a sinner regardless of what you do, and so Velka touches your life regardless of whether you live a good life or a bad one.

    I like to think that there were actually six souls within the first flame. The opening cinematic says 'heat and cold, life and death, light and dark' but we usually only see two of those pairs. Maybe the other two were split in a similar fashion to the light and dark souls and handed down between minor gods who didn't take part in Gwyn's war against the dragons. For example Flann would have a piece of the heat and Velka a piece of the cold soul. The painted world definitely looks like a pretty chilly place. Pretty much just speculation on the fact that one third of that very deliberate trio of dichotomies never comes up again but for my headcanon it works. Fina could have a bit of the heat one too with her warm embrace why not while I'm at it. Holders of lord souls only seem to be a physical embodiment of their aspects like Nito or the Bed of Chaos when they actually have the complete thing after all.

    I find it strange that Velka would send the Undead to kill the Lords when Gwyn through Frampt and Gwyndolin through Gwynevere, send you to kill the Lords anyway so you can kindle the flame. The crow even sits right next to Frampt on the Kiln's shrine. Something doesn't add up.
    I thought it was pretty clear Velka was the mother of Priscilla due to the statue and the amount of Velka related things in the Painted World of Ariamis. Priscilla is pure white meaning Seathe is almost 100% the father since no one else nearby is white and the only fuzzy dragon is the Ancient Dragon at Ash Lake so he's unlikely. Gwynevere is often chosen due to her size but if Velka's statue is of her holding a young Priscilla in her embrace then Velka is huge too, certainly enough to birth Priscilla. The only reason I ever see against Velka being the mother is her hair is black but if you look at Gwynevere she has brown hair. Since Seathe is likely the father it wouldn't matter if Priscilla's mother had bright pink hair. Not to mention Priscilla's Lifehunt ability seems to be a combination of Velka's dark powers and Seathe's sorceries. Velka is the Goddess of Sin but nothing says she cannot commit sins herself.
    Poor Priscilla, she is the only character I regretted killing because she was the only one who had manners and didn't deserve her punishment. The rest brought about their own ruin through foolish or evil actions but she was hated for just existing. I wish she had her own covenant. It could be called the Way of Fluffy White Tails and would reward players for killing players who are fighting Priscilla. It would certainly be better than the useless Way of White covenant in the game.

    I think that there are 4 main plot motivations/drivers, two for each ending:
    Frampt, following the will of Gwyn, who deceives or tricks the player into sacrificing himself to the first flame to extend the age of fire unnaturally. This assuming Gwyn did indeed link humanity to the flame, dooming the undead to their fate in a survival of the fittest/winner takes his place contest to preserve the flame.
    Kaathe, who deceives or tricks the player into killing Gwyn and beginning the age of dark. He has long wanted this to happen as is evidenced by his contributions to the wonderful successes *sarcasm* of Oolacile and New Londo. Serpents are manipulative and have their own agendas, always.
    [Insert motivation here] The desire to sacrifice yourself to the first flame separate to Frampts politics- the chosen undead may simply desire to extend the age of fire regardless of humanity's innate darkness. I mean, there's no guarantee the age of dark would look any different to Oolacile.
    Velka, who rescues you- you specifically- to punish the gods for the first sin and return the world to the natural cycle, with dark being the next age. Her power is not tied to the flame due to her lack of lord soul, and think about it- it should have been Oscar. By Gwyn and Frampt's will alone, you would never have heard the 'prophecy'.... unless another power nudges Oscar to release her champion to the world. Her herald brings you to Lordran, and in her world (my theory about Ariamis is that he was a Velka worshiper, no specific evidence) you find tools to craft weapons to slay the gods and bring about the age of dark, separate from Kaathe's meddling.

    I believe Interpretation #1:
    I think Gwyndolin took over Velka's place as the Darkmoon leader after all things Velka were cast out. I assume Velka started that covenant, gained followers but the Lords wanted her gone, perhaps because they were threatened Velka's followers would outgrow their own... so they might have sabotaged her, and she left when the Lords believed she was dead.
    The Lords probably made a bullshit excuse that Velka "stepped down" as the leader of the covenant and Gwyndolin took her place out of "necessity." It's also possible that Velka was gaining a lot of followers to overthrow the Lords herself and she was found out which caused her to abandon her plans and flee.
    Maybe by turning into the giant crow that ferries undead. The Undead Prophecy was probably Velka's backup plan, and she might have spread the information about the Prophecy in the first place. After all, having crows ferry the lore of the Prophecy as messengers of the Gods would fit Japanese mythology.

    This is after the fact, but Dark Souls 2 reveals her most likely motivation. Taking the First Flame from the Kiln is considered the First Sin. She is exacting vengeance against Gwyn's sin of using the Flame for his own Age of Fire and betraying his desire for Disparity by making it last forever by feeding his soul to the Flame. Also, almost everything in the Painted World is connected to her and I believe she is Priscilla's mother since she is the woman depicted in the statue and Priscilla is the child. Having her daughter sealed away was likely a sore spot to say the least.

  • @Vini-zv3lr
    @Vini-zv3lr 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    In my interpretation Velka is Justice,a force that the Lords fear because not even them can control it,and that's why they try to keep her influence away. I think Velka knows it's about time for the flames to fade,and Gwyn is trying to maitain the age of light,so she sends you,Undead,an immortal,to punish Gwyn and to start the age of Dark. She trusts you are intelligent enough to see to what extent the Lords would go to maitain control. She choses you because Gwyn feared humans,and what better punishment than to be challanged,be hunted over and over and over again by a being that you are terrified of?
    Edid:And I think Velka has Priscilla in her world because she is daughter of Sin. She is Seath's and Gwynevere's daughter,daughter of an union that shouldn't have happened. Seath is a traitor and Gwynevere is cheating on Flann,God of Flame. Velka took Priscilla as a punishment and trained her in the occult arts so that she could too hunt gods. Basically,Velka is like a mother to Priscilla.

    • @milesbennettdyson
      @milesbennettdyson 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And she could actually be her mother! We assume that Seath got it on with Gwenevere to make Priscilla because he experimented on her handmaidens, but I can't imagine that Gwyn would destroy all mention of his son for losing some damn annals but not even raise a hand to Seath for kidnapping and possibly raping his daughter and stealing their child. Sure, he'd send her away the same way he hides Gwendolin's gender, but Seath is a dragon, and Gwyn kills dragons. More likely Velka was pleased by Seath's sinful experiments and played a nasty trick upon him by experimenting with him, and begat Priscilla upon him. Maybe that's why he's insane--Velka snu snu?

    Alright, here's two of my guesses:
    1. Velka does not take action towards those who have not sinned. The gods, besides manipulating Man, have not necessarily sinned, and therefore she gathers that which may harm them so that she might protect those among them who are technically innocent, and hunt them if they are not. It is both containment of a threat, and a threat of force.
    This could be why she ferries Undead to Lordran, in order to feed the First Flame and protect the innocent.
    2. Velka, much like the Moon Presence in Bloodborne, is set against the gods, but cannot assail them directly. However, the Undead are prime tools towards this end, with the ability to grow ever stronger the more they kill. Some of the Undead are either incapable of making it all the way or just fall by the wayside, though the stronger they are the farther they go: this is why the enemies grow stronger in later areas of the game. This, too, plays into Velka's plans, as she appears to simply be luring in fuel for the First Flame in order to keep the Age of Fire burning, making her seem innocent and free of blame to the other gods. All the while, however, she is attempting to nurture an Undead with the power to bring down the gods: towards this aim, she places all that they shall need to accomplish this in their path. Occult weaponry, armor and weapons making them constantly stronger, and the Dark Ember, placed conveniently in the Chosen Undead's path.

    • @FalconRaf
      @FalconRaf 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, technically everything inside the painted world is supposed to be hidden from everyone, not just the gods but to the player himself, if you think about it you find inside: Occult weapons (the ones made for killing the gods), Occult armor (the ones made to not get killed by gods), Crosbreed Priscilla (half god, half dragon, was born with the hability to drain the energy life just by touching a life form, being able to kill lesser creatures just with one touch, if it was that powerful being a baby, it was obvious that the life draining power would grow as she grew to the point of being able to kill a god just by touching him) so they are actually placed conveniently out of the chosen undead's path, to the point that they are hidden in a completely optional area.

    • @camolotthe42
      @camolotthe42 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hidden from gods and the like, perhaps, but anyone strong enough would find it. Besides, she couldn't very well leave it out in the open for just anyone to find: it should only be found by the correct Chosen Undead, while still being well-hidden. Therefore, playing on the Undead's constant search for power, Velka placed hints of secret powers, ancient powers, in the path of the Undead. Those who chose to follow the clues-which are so circumstantial and coincidental that they probably aren't-are those who would take up the occult weapons for the power that they bring, and those that would smother the fire in order to chase the power of the Dark Lord.
      In this way, Velka has complete plausible deniability: she can really just shrug and make the practically irrefutable claim that she had really nothing to do with it, mostly because she didn't: the Undead's choices are what leads them there.

      That would be ture if it wasn't a completely optional area, yes Velka's rapier is an occult weapon, that could be the reason for Gwyn to expell her, out of fear, but she wasn't the only one against the gods and her rapier was hidden in the painted world as well, the occult club you find in anor londo was hidden by Havel (that's why is guarded by a mimic in the same room where his set is hidden. If Velka really was trying to take out the gods, she would have gotten that with any chosen undead, but that wasn't her interest, that's why it isn't that easy to get to the painted world if you don't know what to do, because her interest was to hide her grandaughter, and save her daughter and she disappeared for good when she achieved that goal.

      That actually presents a third option: the reason for the large amounts of monsters and Undead in the Painted World, as well as the large amount of Occult weaponry, is an effort by Velka to construct layers of defense and fear that would result in the gods actively preventing people from entering the painting for fear that they retrieve the Occult weaponry held therewithin. This has the second effect of, if the gods ever discovered the existence of Priscilla, she has access to an arsenal of Occult weapons with which to fight them off., as well as a small army.
      This would also explain why Priscilla guards the exit: it's an escape hatch for her that would delay her pursuers long enough for her to escape.

      @FalconRaf 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      camolotthe42 I see what you see, and I think its for defense, as you said, she guards the exit Of the painted world, but as you know, you can leave without a fight, being that because you could find the world but she wasn't hiding from the chosen undead, so she doesn't think Of our character as a threat

    In norse mythology, a popular thing in Japan (Scandinavia, north europe in general) and also the setting of darksouls. Medival europe. Ravens were the eyes of the king of gods. Were Ravens / crow (hard to spot the difrence at a glance) and i think the crow sounds more like a raven. Crows craw. Raves just rock.
    What the bird sees, the god sees. a messanger of sorts like i said in a nother coment in a nother vid, What if almost everthing is ilusions? you hear oter players ring the bells. its not like its (a) event to ring the bells.. and like solair said. time does not flow normaly in Lorderan. Darksouls 2 wont be in lorderan. Do you think the same rules will aply there? anny how, time does not flow normaly. so are you just a strong undead do give extra time to kindle the flame? one with the streangh and will power to gather souls, become stronger as you go. and give some extra spare time to Gwyns son (cant remember his name...) or such?

    In a way, VERY LOOSLY, this is a bit like common Greek mythology. Velka is essentially Hera. Ever notice in Solaires items it always states that he painted his shield and tunic himself and decorated his talisman himself, that none of which carry special powers, his capabilities are simply that of his own training. Which he can use lightning bolt (I think idk if it's sunlight bolt so correct me please if I am wrong) both of which are linked to Gwyn. So if we are going with the theory that Gwyn is his father, why is he in Lorderan? Perhaps cast out by his mother? Something along the lines of which Hera had done to her son Heracles? Then again Solaire and Heracles? Both mortal men (talking when Heracles was a hero not a god) however with extreme prowess in skills far beyond the average human. I know this seems to have no point, which is doesn't. It just came to me and I needed to share the similarities I have found. So what hero do we play as? Perceous? Always having the luck to overcome any monster. Or perhaps we are a demigod, stalwart in our cause, however the many deaths seems to convolute our minds and eventually we lose that cause and strike out on our own journey. Clearly not everyone can use pyromancy, have renowned faith to cast miracles, or be wise enough to cast power soul crushing spells. Whether we are a hero, or just winner of fate, our cause is never plainly stated. And we are by far not a good person.

      This game is greatly influenced by mythology from the western world. For example, gods that overthrow powerful beings over rule of the world. Gwyn, Nito, and the Witch of Izalith are the three main gods featured and they overthrow the Everlasting Dragons. This seems awfully reminiscent of the rebellion of the gods in Greek mythology, where the Titans get overthrown by the gods(Zeus and the gang).

    • @lingars001
      @lingars001 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      IownyouProductions Makes sense. Gwyn = Zeus; Nito = Hades. Even Poseidon and the Witch of Izalith are similar in that they wield the powers of two elements (water and fire).

      I think Velka represents more the Moira and/or Nemesis than Hera (even if Nemesis is told being send by Hera).
      What strikes me is how firekeepers are alike to Vestal Virgin. Even the god of Moon have a bow.

    The reason the crow grabs the Chosen Undead is very simple, really. Crows like collecting things. Firelink Shrine is its giant "nest", and all the folks you find loitering about were unceremoniously dropped there by the crow. 😄

    I have a theory about the entire story of the game, what if the dark soul is the only true lord soul, it seems to have the ability to destroy the others even while being fragmented millions if not billions of times over. what if the furtive pigmy planed to end the age of fire. When Gwyn started to age of fire he created suffering as well as prosperity, Isolyth created a force that creates demons that was meant to extend the age indefinitely, Nito feeds off of the death of others, and plans to create an army of the dead, perhaps to remove the pain of living, and Seth created another way to become immortal perhaps to see that age of grey return along with lesser dragons to follow him eternally. the only historic creature to share no traits with the others is the pigmy and his dark soul. instead of using it for itself, the pigmy chose to split the soul, perhaps awaiting the day the flames would fade, knowing that when they did the soul would choose one of its own to champion in a new age, where only those with the dark soul would remain. not in darkness, because without light there is no dark, only the Gray between them. What if the whole game and the story of the souls, are just lies about 4 beings who thought they were true lords, manipulated by the dark soul to end the age of dragons only to then suffer the same fate when humanity was ripe to take charge of its own fate. just a theory.

    seems like velka releases the undead so they can make their own judgement, as oppose to being silenced by the living they are set out to be free to sin or punish those who have sinned. Either way velka wins.

    If you ask me, Velka was a lord, in the age of Gwyn, and the rest, however, as the fire began to fade, she began to see the curse of the undead sprout, so, she took her own means of counteracting this, forming the church of sin. By doing this, she achieved 2 things, giving those hollowed something to be afraid of, and giving a means of redemption to those who haven't.

    This makes so much sense when you take into account the half-dragon from DS3. If velka has a like to the darkmoons and the painted world, it would make sense that the darkmoons are linked to the half-dragon in DS3.

    I think velka and gwyndolin are in a ever dying war, when you kill gwyndolin the pardoner praises you in a way suggesting that she did not like the dark moon blades. By jioning the dark moon blades you kill sinners as an act of vengeance not justice, velka is the goddess of sin and gwyndolin is killing her sinners. Just a theory

  • @franklynsmith6968

    I'd like to posit something's that will potentially outlandish, but bear with me or simply enjoy.
    If the first sin was disrupting the natural order of the cycles of the world was Velka intending to punish Lord Gwyn? Hence why the painting is in Anor Londo initially.
    I'd also like to posit that Oswald the Pardoner is not just a follower of Velka, but also the founding influence to the Sable Church (perhaps even the father of Lilianne, Yuria, and Elfriede). Oswald is a swordsman who may have taught the Sable sisters (or dare I say daughters) sword fighting.
    Velka deals in sinners, but I think it also deals in justice and righting wrongs. The crow aids in the undead going from the undead asylum to Lodran so they may eventually end the cycle, not continue it.
    I genuinely believe Velka is a patron saint to Londor for that very reason.
    I'll end it here for the sake of being concise.
    Cheers, even years later I rewatch your videos Vaati. Always a good time, thank you again.
