Going up into the mountains of Colorado for weekend drives was my absolute favorite thing to do when I lived in Denver. So much grandeur and beauty out there.
11:32 “I’ve never heard of any of these places... Cimarron! I know that because there was a car named after that town, an old GM product. So it’s probably not great...” 🤣😂
Hey man, thank you so much for getting out there, TH-cam creators like yourself are keeping me sane while I am chained to my desk during this pandemic. I used to drive so much in my Tesla, now I rarely even need to charge it.. so sad. Oh and I am a little bit jealous of how beautiful and forward thinking Colorado is.
Colorado looks so amazing, such a beautiful scenery. The college of western Colorado is so nice, maybe I should consider applying there after I am done with my PhD. Yes, Rivian would be so amazing for off-roading. Maybe some overlanding?
5:53 is the best view. I love it. Every time I go down that hill its amazing to see that valley. Montrose is a really small town. But its a vacation town. Your drive took me down memory lane.
Interesting how during the driveway trip planning it showed Montrose supercharger as dark red as if you can get there without charging (farther away chargers you can't make it to are translucent). But then when you click on it it wants you to stop in Poncha Springs on the way. It's like it's just using the EPA range to determine if it can get to a charger when looking at the map, and then on route actually using elevation data to get arival %age like we're used to. I have noticed the opposite where I'd be up in the mountains and a supercharger is translucent but when I click it it will navigate there with no stops on the way. Can't be that hard to calculate which ones you could actually make it too. Asumidly it's already using driving distance to each one and not as the crow flies.
The trips with Alyssa and the dogs are my absolute favorite. Back in September we did a roadtrip from Seattle down to Colorado in my Model 3 and I had planned on driving the area around Ouray and the Million Dollar Highway. I had carefully planned out the charging since this was before the Montrose supercharger was there. Then, the day before we planned on arriving, that freak snowstorm hit the Rockies and scuttled our plans. Looks like a return trip will be necessary! One road that we did drive was CO-141 between Grand Junction and Naturita. You go through the Dolores River canyon which is truly spectacular. Highly recommend you check that out someday!
It is a Great tip to charge the night before on a very cold night. I made that mistake in Tusayan, AZ (south rim of Grand Canyon) then in the morning, there was a loud bang as I charged and I got 4 quick alerts on the car, "will not supercharge, may not start, will not regen and get your ass to a service center asap" something like that.. so I took a chance and took the car out and yoyo'd the throttle ala Bjorn and heated up the battery and voila it did supercharge, unfortunately it did not regen from Flagstaff to Tempe where my service center is, so my brakes were used the entire time. That pushed me to get my brakes done for the first time at 100000 miles.. maybe a little early, but it was getting close on my rear brakes and new rotors are costly, so.... anyway, Tesla covered the cost of my battery heater cooling system, and some new vent motors, at 99,000 miles, just before my warranty expired. :)
Thanks for sharing! Any chance you guys will put the charging info back on the screen? I kind of miss that from your older videos, was cool seeing how long it took to charge, how much energy you used, etc. Convinced me to buy a Model Y after watching them
Love the road trip videos, but as a Colorado native I need to correct some of your pronunciation 😊 Montrose - rose is pronounced like the flower, less emphasis on the S Saguache - pronounced sah-watch Ouray - pronounced your-ay Bummer you couldn’t do the drive between Durango and Ouray. That is my absolute favorite road in Colorado. 550 through there is called The Million-Dollar highway and definitely worth checking out! Thanks for continuing to show us what road trips are possible in an EV!

I have traveled extensively in Colorado but enjoy revisiting via your travels. One request please clean your (our) windshield it takes away from the beautiful vistas. Thanks Again
Can you do a video on how your back seats are holding up with the dogs? Like since you have white seats, how obvious is the dog hair and possible claw marks. Also, not only the seats but the white trim on the doors as well.
We will do a washing video when a good time comes! But to recap the seats do not have much wear because we fold them down, also with some original dawn the seats look exactly like the day we got it! Thanks for watching
We've already mapped out some good Colorado trips for the Mach-E. When Mount Evans opens up after Memorial Day, we should do an EV gathering and drive up the highest paved road in North America.
When you drive through Cimarron next time, take a right the junction and drive up the paved Marrow Point road to the dam (its maybe 2 miles at most), you end up driving through a slot canyon that ends at the Gunnison River, with a view of the Marrow Point Dam, along with a bridge that has a full narrow gauge train on it. Its pretty cool and only takes a few min.
Here in Québec the largest charging company Électrique Circuit are now installing 100 Kw instead the old 50 Kw chargers, which is just perfect for my Kona E.
Very cool, I recently picked up a used Model S for the free supercharging and have a cabin close to Fairplay so fun to see it in the video. Definitely some gorgeous views all around the area. No worries on the Ouray pronunciation, being basically a native Coloradan who also speaks other languages including Spanish it’s hilarious to hear how people pronounce Fruita, Buena Vista, etcetera so you fit right in.

Not going to lie, that windshield cleaning job tested my OCD the last couple minutes of the video. 🤣 Great video though! I love the channel and content!
I think the 208/30 chargers are totally fine. I find these at shopping centers usually. I drive the 5 - 15 miles to the shopping center, shop for an hour or two and get 15-30 miles worth of charge. This is totally acceptable to me as it gives me my round trip miles back and then some. I hope eventually every shopping center will have chargers so that I gain back a few miles every time I stop. The idea is that I leave home at 60% and arrive back home at 60% or more after running a few errands around town. For my day to day driving this is all I need.
Using the same tires as Bjorn in Norway and using one of the sayings he uses with ABC. Nice tour of Colorado though for the parts you covered off on definitely need a 4x4 for it though such as Rivian(R1T/R1S).
That Montrose install is great an like you said does open up a big chunk of SW Colorado to explore. Going to Moab from there will be fun using back roads. With Craig coming online soon that will also open up NW Colorado.

The irony of calling the 120kw v1 supercharger old tech, when those brand new chargers are limited to 60kw each. I've got a cybertruck and rivian reservation, the launch edition should be shipping in July but I'm still tentative about the truck due to the charging infrastructure. One of the reasons I want an ev truck vs a model 3 is the extra range and the ability to explore. Hopefully rivian's adventure network fills in the gap with maximum speed charging in between all the other chargers that are available, and as close to major trailheads as possible.
Even though Fairplay is in the flat area called South Park, Fairplay is 10,000' in elevation, and is near the Continental Divide. So everything is down hill from there. :-) And Poncha Springs is 7,464' elevation.
I have a long talk with my local SC after having an issue with heat in my Model Y. He told me that for best range always make sure that the Climate Control is set to AUTO and not to change the fan speed...
Love your videos. I am a Tesla model 3 owner, best car ever in my opinion. Can you make a video explains what all the numbers mean that appears on the screen while the care is being charged. Little confusing when your new to the Tesla charging system
I'm from MS but have been to CO several times. Beautiful state. I love it during the Summer. Nice dogs btw. I do not own an EV but thinking about buying a Tesla 3 or a VM id4. Probably buy the Tesla 3 as there are no EA charging stations in central MS but we do have Tesla stations. I could just use the trickle charge at my house and super charge as needed at the local Tesla station. Whereas with the VW I would need to install a level 2 at my house for my primary charging. And in time I may want one anyway. Also I like Tesla's remote support service. And they have a service center 90 miles from me so not that far to travel for service when needed. Still thinking about it all......
I share your views on the new UI, I really wish Tesla had left us the choice to modify the width of the left section of the screen... To me the giant map was a big part of what made this screen so appealing, and it being such an important part of the car I find it less attractive now. Great video thanks for the amazing content as always 🙂

Great to see Bleu, Ellie and Alyssa getting out to enjoy the view. Has Ellie ever slipped between (even just a paw or not completely) the folded down seats and the front seat backs? How has your battery capacity been holding up after 80k miles?? I’m wondering because I plan to start doing some serious road trips in my model 3 this spring and summer.
2,400 dollars per night wow, we have some of those shared power ChargePoint units in the U.K. And I agree that the power needs to be higher. Although over here there are still too many 50kw units being installed and not enough high power units

I make the drive through Woodland Park , Twin Cedars and Indian Hills all the time when driving to Denver. Much better experience than driving on I-25 I promise you that! The roads in Twin cedars are some of the best in the country I've driven!
Thanks for the suggestion!
How has your battery capacity been holding up after 80k miles?? I’m wondering because I plan to start doing some serious road trips in my model 3 this spring and summer.
Beautiful area! To know the energy consumption with the Heat Pump would be very interessing.
2,400 dollars per night wow, we have some of those shared power ChargePoint units in the U.K. And I agree that the power needs to be higher.
Although over here there are still too many 50kw units being installed and not enough high power units
Definitely need a push for minimum 150kW for corridor fast charging
what is the sticker on the rear driver door window?
Love Fort Collins !
Why don't you upload the last episode or two of the summer road trip?
It’s not interesting. Maybe next week
Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy your videos! The quality is excellent. I have seen your reflection in some of your other road trip videos in the window....are you just using your phone for a lot of the filming? If so what kind of editing software? Again excellent job!
Final Cut Pro
Excellent!!
that's so true! 27:25
🤣🤣
I did the Grand Junction to Pueblo ride on my motorcycle the first week of April, and it was 34 degrees on Monarch pass at 5p.m.
Do you have the official Tesla $400 Chademo adapter, or is there a cheaper version?
Alyssa, have you seen the gates on I25? Wait till the winds in Wyoming shut down I25 north of Fort Collins. It’s brutal up there
Yes I do! I already have experienced the windy! I’m not too far north, I’m told 5 miles further is wildly windy! No shut downs yet 🤕
Great video! We live in Fort Collins and plan on LR MY purchase in late 2022 when 4680 cells are added. We want the >400 range. What was your regeneration experience with mountain driving and I-70 steep downhill into Denver?
Have you ever heard of washing your car. I lived in Gunnison 40 years ago and still managed to wash my car in the winter... If my memory serves me right Gunnison had 2 Movie Screens, Montrose had 2 Screens in one direction and Salida had 2 Movie Screens in the other the direction...
I put keilbasa in Johnny's fried rice today. Our family would like the sausage appetizer!
Thumbs up for not going back the way you came and choosing your own path over the nav path.
Let me state for the record that I've never ordered from Starbucks :D
Alyssa doesn't need makeup 26:37 but the car sure needs a WASH!
Ahah thanks!! But yes we agree! Full detail honestly
Thinking of getting a set of Martians for snows......what size tires do you have on your narrower wheels?
I have heard of the Nokian tyres never seen one though.
Fun fact, Fair play was the town that inspired South Park.
Ha! No way
Great vid! Thanks for letting us tag along...but Ad frequency.... kinda kills the mood...
When is Alyssa going to do another video with her parents? That video was awesome.
Whenever we see them next! We moved pretty far away tho 🥺
Oh, also ouray is pronounced 'yer-ray' :)
In high altitude sunny Colorado would a white car be cooler and use less energy especially when parked with dog mode on, or is that insignificant?
I use to deliver merch to AAron Bro's in Fort Collins
