Now that is a restoration, no aftermarket stuff, no sporterizing. Just restoring a beauty to her former glory, the perfect redemption for sporterizing the previous one.
Well when some parts are broken or need replacing how else are you gonna restore it without after market stuff? I'd say that kinda stuff doesn't matter at all for a restore as long the gun is repaired and once again able to be fired.
I was very happy to see proper hollow ground screwdrivers used throughout the build. It may seem small to others, but to me that is an essential bit that "gunsmiths" get but most "restorers" do not. I was happy to see you had the right tools for the right job. (& yes you did a better job on this than I ever could have) #Cheers
When steaming out deep dents I've scored the dent with a new single edged razor blade (with the grain). The steam goes into the score marks (about 1/16" apart) and does a great job of raising it out.
Many years ago we did the same on a late ware vz.24, lots of rough machine marks and very little finish. It was my rifle and as it had almost no value in that condition, we restored it. Well done.
I did the same thing to my trophy k98,the stock was black oil soaked and some metal rusted(?), it was crappy.turned out beautiful and shoots well at the range.go for it man!
*The K98 is one of the best and most reliable among carbines. You did a brilliant job once again, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I look forward to your next video as the best blockbuster and want to watch it again and again.*
Nice work. Laminated stocks are difficult to correct if there's damage - you did it well, and the metalwork was a good as anyone else could restore given its condition. Good to see you use the takedown disc on the stock for it's original purpose. I don't think you needed to use the WD40 and tweezers though, but it makes for a more entertaining vid!
Really enjoyed the video. I could very much relate to it. About 10 years ago, I picked up a pretty ugly Mauser K98k made in Brno, Czechoslovakia for $200. I am a Slovak American, so I was excited to find a K98k made in my family's country of origin even if the gun wasn't the best looking. The price was certainly decent. Also, Brno Mausers are reputed to be excellent. However, I quickly discovered that the stock had been covered in thick, uneven polyurethane. Not only that, but all the metal parts had been painted black and the paint was starting to chip off. What the heck, I decided to strip everything with a strong paint stripper. It turns out that the ugly polyurethane and icky black paint had actually protected the firearm. The bluing was at least 70-80% intact and the stock was in pretty decent condition too. I used cold bluing like in the video to bring the metal parts back to about 95%. As far as the stock, I used boiled linseed oil. I applied the oil by rubbing it in with 400 grit sandpaper. The 400-grit sandpaper doesn't really hurt the finish, however, the little bit of very fine grit that comes off the stock helps to fill in slight imperfections in the stock as the linseed oil dries. The stock is laminated, so the grit helped fill in the fine cracks between the various layers of lamination. I do have to say though that I went overboard on the number of linseed oil coats. Yes, I did nine (I have never been accused of moderation). So, finishing the stock took a while because you have to wait a few days between coats. But it does have a very nice smooth finish, even if a bit unmilitary. In the end I am very proud of quite a nice-looking firearm. It also has a great bore and is very accurate. I just wanted to end by talking a little bit about the gun itself. Clearly, the receiver and barrel were used in the war. Under the barrel there is a German army stamp. The stock also has a German army marking. However, the top of the receiver has been scrubbed and has the Czechoslovak rampant lion stamps on them, as does the barrel. No doubt this was done post war. The trigger guard and magazine base plate are all stamped metal and have the very large "winter" trigger guard. After the war, the Brno factory had lots of parts and access to war time Mausers, so they mixed and matched to reassemble firearms for export to get some cash flowing into the economy. Because of this none of my serial numbers match. When the factory ran out of wartime parts, they made their own, like the stamped oversized winter trigger guard. Again, thanks much for the video. Got me to remember the fun I had restoring mine.

Complimenti!!!
Beautiful restoration! As far as those idiots who whine about the "history and patina" its called maintaining and preserving the rifle. This rifle got this bad because no one maintained it. You are doing the work that the previous owners did not do and that the current owner wants done.
You did a wonderful job in restoring this beautiful rifle. For my personal taste, even to good. I like it when these old rifles look a little bit beaten up^^ But Thanks for posting this video and dealing with this old wonderful rifles!
I've got a k98k dot 1943 in very bad shape, which need a serious restauration..I know what I have to do now! thank you🙏
Very nice, i have one of these, mine was made in the Erma factory in 1938, it was re barrelled to the NATO 7.62 by the Newley formed Israeli forces after the war, thanks from Australia.
The best video on TH-cam on gun restoration, hands down. Being a Mauser geek myself, I have to point out, that the buttplate is usually kept "in the white" - not blued.
Awesome video/ restoration. This gun definitely needed this to prevent further decay. Sometimes "Patina" is nothing but rust, oils and lack of proper maintenance that will continue to ruin and shorten the life of a rifle until it is just a hanging piece. How were the pieces reblued after boiling them to lift the rust and carding them? Cold blued? Could not tell. Thanks for the awesome vid! I will be restoring a K98 soon, only difference is I will not fill any dings in the stock to conserve it's trials and tribulations.

Muy buena restauración !

Absolutely A1 job well done, what the customer wanted - the customer definitely got!

When steaming out deep dents I've scored the dent with a new single edged razor blade (with the grain). The steam goes into the score marks (about 1/16" apart) and does a great job of raising it out.
Finally someone who knows how to blue correctly! Bravo, nice video!!!!!!!!!!!
Ottimo video come sempre.
Grazie mille per il supporto 🙏
Now that's a K98! Finally! It has the post sight ring, makes me smile.
Seus vídeos são muito satisfatório. Obrigado

I can't believe how prestine the barrel came out! It looks brand new!
WOW! That rifle looked good originally but now it's simply beautiful; what a GREAT restoration. Well done Brother, well done.
That is a fantastic piece of work, mid war k98 returned to service expertly, very well done 👍
Wow So AWESOME 😎 watching from Philippines
Well done. You are a master! I have a 1939 that lucky doesn't need restoration

Great job ! I am glad you kept the original type finish.
You've outdone yourself again! Love watching you bring to life these historic weapons. Awesome work!
Thank you bro
Well done, especially the stock work. Steaming to raise the grain old school.
That was the best resoration of a gun that i've ever seen.
Very well done! I was pleased to see some of the same techniques used by my idol, Mark Novak.
Sollte nights restaurieren!! Ganz gut erhalte schon das Mauser k98 geweher.
Beautiful job, looks just like it would have when it was new!
BEAUTIFUL job! Thanks for this video, and thanks for preserving history.
The best work and maintenance I have seen in this video is a good job
My day becomes perfect because of this satisfying video.
Nice work dude!!!
Happy to know that! Thank you 🙏
Mauser 98k is the best carbine of that time, it definitely needs to be restored. 👍
It's a fantastic rifle however I'd have said the SMLE purely on the basis of a 10 round capacity.
I’m very envious of that lovely weapon
Nice work.

Spectacular Restoration of a K98 Mauser !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
