Nice example of a European gun, judging by the cheek pad and the horn grip behind the trigger guard probably started its life as a rifle or maybe a drilling and rebarrelled later in life,as already said put the hammers at half cock before opening to save striker damage, back action locks on this gun are fairly simple but well made, barrels will be of Belgian origin as they were the main producers of Damascus barrels up until 1930s

You have a very nice shotgun there! You really should put it on to half cock before opening it as the strikers will hit the extractors on the way open, unless it is a rebounding hammer action,(unlikely as that was later), I look forward to seeing the tasteful restoration of this. Unfortunately few "modern" people appreciate the skill required to engrave to this standard as they are more familiar with the laser or CNC "engraving" offered today, they think that this is the same thing without realising the shear amount of skill and time it took back when this was made. Enjoy your new acquisition! Stay safe, Chris B.

Thanks and agree! It has rebounding hammers so they sit back from the firing pins. 👍🏻

@@montanvs Very unusual for a gun this old,(not sure exactly how old but looks about late 18 hundreds), to have rebounding hammers, a very nice feature. Enjoy! Chris B.
