- The life of a Marine Corps drill instructor may seem glorious to some, but it's hard work that requires tremendous dedication and long hours with the recruits. Staff Sgt. Phil Grondin went to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island to highlight one drill instructor who says it's all worth it.
im a poolee waiting to go to boot and can not wait to become a part of the worlds most elite force. so much motivation from watching these videos. unreal
I am highly considering joining the Marine Corps... I had my mind set on the Air Force until I talked to a Marine Corps recruiter today. I am looking to be an aircraft mechanic. Obviously at first thought the Air Force would be a great choice. My eyes were opened today about the prestige of being a marine and what that is worth after serving when I go to work as a civillian.
got'em
HOORAH!!!
I saw marine sniper training on the Discovery channel it looks fun i love guns.
boot camp will be the toughest thing in the world mentally. but you can do it. i went may 2, 2011, the heat was about 120 every day. you just got to think, chow, fuck time, training, chow mail, free time. (youll understand when your there) take it one day at a time, sound off, and do everything with speed volume and intensity. now im a LCpl and never regretting anything that ive done
One more year, can't wait.
Thank you SSGT Grodin! Semper Fi.
Well if you want to go crazy go all the way!
Man that's gotta be one heck of a job. I don't know what must be more difficult, being one of the recruits going through that mess or the D.I. being hard pressed to produce good Marines!
I ship October 8th... God, Basic is going to fuck me up, and I look foward to it.
and senior is now a gunny man
good segment!
@dardo1201 Boot camp is what makes Marines, its to transform you from a civilian to a basic trained Marine. After boot you would report to your respective training. For non infantry you go to MCT and then MOS training. For infantry you do SOI and then ITB. Every Marine must endure the 13 weeks of fun in the sun. Its what makes the Corps. Hope this helped
@AshleyCalicotoast
I ship out to basic in January, my recommendation to anyone so far is to PT like no one's business. No such thing as too "fit" for the Corps! When you join up make sure that one of the recruiting offices around you offers a Physical Training program. In mine we go in for 2 hrs every tuesday and thursday to workout. My recruiter was a Drill Instructor so its nice to prepare
he called that right oblique cus he was on camera lol - OORAH!!!!!
I am just glad that I watched Full Metal Jacket AFTER I went to boot camp...lol.
Even the drills instructors look young these days. They were in their 30's back in the 60's and 70's.
I see that 3rd Bn blue...Spirit & Discipline, Semper Fi!
@SGCBallistic Good luck man. Semper FI!
@BackingMyCrack It's defiantly the 18th for me. Running my IST Saturday.
Have anybody reading this ever seen somebody cry
thank you Sir for responding to my question and congrates on your promotion.i have not earned the right to say this yet but Semper-fi and thanks for serving Sir.
@SGCBallistic Get ready, your world is about to turn upside down. You're gonna hate life, but it'll pass. Sound off, move with intensity & above all, stay motivated. Semper Fi.
@KiloByte69 No attack, but for someone with your intellect I could see how it looked that way. It was simply an observation as previously stated. Since you don't know me, you wouldn't know that I do talk this way in real life. In my country we have freedom of speech, so I say what I want where I want thank you very much.
@xxxBradTxxx that could also make a problem. int he marines they unteach u what u have been previously taught, and reteach u. some of the best shooters by the end of training are th eones who never touched a weapon
Semper Fi.
@john doe
My advice bud, don't be affraid of switching recruiters.. Don't be affraid to tell him you want to change recruiters.. My take is, if you don't feel comfortable with your recruiter then there is probably a reason. I suggest you get another recruiter that you feel comfortable with and work out your possible future in the Corps. Good luck to you bro, hell I remember being in your position and now I am already about to promote to Lance Corporal here in about 13 days
Jthkilla- u will have a blast man. It's a lot of bs but good training. All mental. Meet the best friends u ever have there.
my dad went to parris island when he went into the marines i hope to go there as well
@BgKnoccoutGangstaDre after you have i believe 4yrs or your become a Sgt or SSgt you will have a choice between, guarding embassy, recruiting, or drill instructor
oh hell no... he called em "DI's".... DROP!
oh yeah im sure haiti would be doing much better without our aid, support and protection.. im pretty sure they are very thankful we are there to help them stay a country
@truegodzillareborn ok ty you sir for answering my questions.. 1 more is how long does it take to comeplete DI school, be assigned, get started?
I hated that place at the time. 3rd Battalion was hell.
i ship on the 13th, its gonna be hot bit the reward will be forever engraved
the food is amazing
Terminal Lance for life!!!
I can't wait to join only three more years any advice
@wolfer17 his not a soldier, he is a United States Marine just saying bro.
Bootcamp May 29, 2012
Love it! OOH- RAH MFER!!!
I still cant get over the fact that they called them DIs. I remember a recruit called a drill instructor DI and the drill instructor had him on the quarterdeck for a good 30-45 minutes, lol. "Are you tryin to abbreviate me, son?" lol
@thenfm Cameras don't show what they don't do in front of the cameras...
@JackSpeweike Well they don't let you decide where to go. Where ever they assign you at, that's where you're going to go. I know it sucks :(
@bloodshot738 i've always wondered about all of that, i think i recall reading some time ago that they can only be a DI for so long
If you want to be a marine tanker do you first have to follow the boot camp as well?
@Stormchaserda18th i know they pic where you go but parris is i think is the most known one
@SKatman115 Actually MC recruit training is 13 weeks...the Army is 8-9 weeks. BEEN THERE...DONE THAT. OHH RAA..
@KiloByte69 I'm a retired Marine and a liberal. Many Marines are. I don't know what the argument was about but just wanted to state that its incorrect to think Marines are only politically conservative. Some of the hardest Marines I knew were leftists.
How long does it take to comeplete D I School, be assigned, getting started? How long can a Marine be a D I ? Looks like they spend very little time with spouses, kids?
@JackSpeweike Well they just usually sends you to a MCRD that is closer to you
is it possible to switch from reserves to active duty? I'm leaving June 4th for Parris Island and really dont want to switch my ship date if i am able to switch to active duty. so is there anyway after im done with boot that i can go active instead of reserves?
@thirdlonghorn are you shipping on the 20th????
@thecolaratlady I believe the training is 8 weeks and you can remain a D I well into your 40's. Because D I rotate shifts, you don't spend as much time away from family as you might think, plus most families live on base so no big deal. One thing you will have to do is remain in tip top shape because you have to do everything the recruit does. I don't think I'd be a good D I because I would laugh too much and you can NEVER laugh.
@christschool 3rd bat has the worst food? Or i thought that 1st had better food than us?
@thecolaratlady btw, whats a quarterdeck?
i was supposed to meet the recruiter today but he for got he said i set it up a week before so nobody would for get but he has been known to skip out on these meetings with other people should i find another recruiter or give him another chance i want to be a marine badly i weak up every day and think i want to become a marine i will become a marine because if i fail the asvab twice i wont stop because marine's dont quit i am determined to be a marine not for the money but for the honor
@redsfan293 I understand. It's probably very hard for someone with the intellect of a person who wants to join the marines to understand. Keep trying, you'll get it one day.
@SKatman115 the reception is part of the 13 weeks.
@shawndw1000 no im in the infantry it was 14 weeks plus two for reception bud
@AshleyCalicotoast yea dont do it
about to get of the corps in 3 weeks myself
1:40 theres always somebody back there at port cooler lols
@MassAxeMurderer dude I go shooting once a month with my dad and if I were to get paid while doing that I would be so happy. But I know it can be hell, I've heard of snipers taking three+ days to crawl to their post and back with very little water and food.
@thecolaratlady Yeah how long is Drill Instructor School?
Please reply back to me and to @thecolaratlad as well.
Hotel Company is 3rd Battalion?? I thought it was 2nd.
Sooo one DI gets 1 group of recruits or is there like 2 to a group?
@xxxBradTxxx fun is not the right word.
@thecolaratlady also what's the lowest rank that they can be a DI
@plane15man lol omg really? see..thats what i like to hear, DI's stories about their most memorable recruit...good or bad ( but bad sticks out more lol )
@tehatemachine he was just a DI in the movie....
@KiloByte69 Ok. Not one word of what I said would lead any normal person to assume everything you just did. You didn't finish top of your class did you?
@truegodzillareborn ok ty for your asisstance
Shipping July 11th or 18th. FML ^-^
I ship to parris island on June 20, fml, its gonna suck
They got rid of those badass sleeves. Oh well times change. I just wish they could go back to leather boots.
@JackSpeweike There are only tow MCRD in the world and if you live East of the Mississippi River you go to MCRD Parris Island SC and if your West of the Mississippi you go to MCRD San Diego CA easy as that if you can't figure out were your going from what I just told you then I can't help good luck
@christschool lol, I graduated M co. November 18, 2011. became a Marine on the Marine Corps birthday. It was fun.
i cant wait to leave
head movement at :58
How do become a Drill Instructor?
@christschool alright, thank you for the info
Look at that rack at 1:21 that recruit must have gotten thrashed
@4hangar I already am!
@silkdagger I 'll just look it up since you have a problem with my question..oh and btw....bye bye now
@redsfan293 Wasn't trying to piss anyone off. Just making an observation. Sorry if it's the truth and that makes you uneasy. I'm far from a hippie, just someone who would like to see the human race get along. I can tell you're the opposite of that and I feel sorry for you.
DI's neck is so thick he can barely talk
That hat looked so Photoshopped at 0:53 and other segments like it
@Br0k3n1mAg1nAsHuNn3d oh lordy, that question SHOULD ALWAYS BE MARKED NO!
They actually have such a question?
@tehatemachine O.o that i did not know
Big blue :)
@jthakilla1992 I ship down may 7th maybe i will see you down there!
@kev3145 If you're planning on enlisting, good luck getting through boot camp. lol
yeh it says in every book that we entered ww2 just for oil and not to protect our european allies from german rain and terror. and we definitely entered vietnam because of there vast majority of natural resources and not to try to prevent world communist rain by the ussr.
@redsfan293 Hit a little too close to home I see. HAHAHAHAHA
uuhrah ice jug recruits!!!
i think it would be an honor to serve my country it something nobody can take the oath,pride honor away from you
you can click reply and it will come up on his email
@420Smokemydro and i'm lookin forward to that day
@pullstringgoboom0811 well I'm going to join because it's my choice not yours. But I do have respect for you considering you are a Marine I just don't support your answer. Semper Fi
@BackingMyCrack I had to get up at 0400 lol
@jthakilla1992 ill see done there im shipping April 2
