I had a kayak come off a Subaru about 50yrs in front of me on NH 93. Ran it completely over and didn’t do a lick of damage to my rig. A state trooper showed up and reamed the guy out for 20min, then cited him. Served him right! 😂
They only use cannons on HWY 2 now. Over Snowqualamie they have cable runs on towers up the avalanche chutes. There is a winch under the canvas on the little tower. They hook explosives on the cable and it goes up the mountain on the cable and drops off and explodes to bring the snow down.
I couldn't wait to get out of cabovers, but now I miss them. Never drove the Peterbuilts or Kenworths, mostly just Internationals and Freightliners. The only thing air ride was the seat in most of them. When it came time to hit the bunk, sleep came pretty quickly.
Man Steve I was just thinking, you've taken us to the inner city, the east coast, down south, all over the mid-west, now to the west coast ..dam that ol' Pete just goes
Western Washington and Oregon has been one of the most scenic areas in the USA I have been in. Its too bad Seattle and Portland have become so bad since I was last there in 2004.
Once again nice being in the jump seat. Well ya dodged the bullet as you stayed ahead of the snow. It looked at times it was going to start any minute. Boy Orwell sure gets the job done. No sensor problems with Orwell, to busy just a tugging. Nice views of the country side and the pass, another fine video FSC. Have yourself a great and a safe day, happy trails and happy motoring.
Awesome view, pretty cool seeing you run out west. I’m sure it was a nice change of scenery for you from running the east coast. Love the vids, keep up the awesome work!
20:23 I spent the night down there on that off-ramp, backed up to the forest service gate. Lost the fuel pump on my pickup, and had to wait four hours for my dad to come save me with my trailer. That was a long night.
If I had to pick a favorite truck channel, this is it. I drive a red and white '84 Int 9670 and travel much the same lanes as you do FSC. Hope to see Orwell in person eventually. Driving a cabover is a lot like driving a classic car up and down the road.
Steve you remind me of Tim Gentry the love of cabover trucks and the get- r- done attitude. Enjoying the view over Snoqualmie Pass trucking style. Enjoy your videos from North Carolina.
aww man, i actually passed you on I-90 with that loader on, I live 20 minutes from the north bend TA, i should have driven through after i saw you, would have bought you breakfast : ) glad to have you in Washington
brings back so many memories.. I Grew up in Maple Valley off Highway 18... I drove over it starting in 1980 thru 2015 when I retired from 35 plus yrs in trucking.. love your camera angles... interesting to see more than just lookin out the windshield..I hauled US Mail for a contractor for over 20 yrs...pulled doubles alot.. mostly at night and in winter had to chain quite a bit.. we had old PIE Freightliner Cab overs tractors powered by 318 Detroits and 10 spds..thanks for the memories Steve!! Ive subscribed to your channel...if you get out that way again would you consider making more content around Seattle area? I retired to Florida in 2015 and miss seeing my old stomping grounds..:)
I did 27 years hauling U.S. mail myself, and boy has the bottom dropped out on that. Now I just do general freight, after 35 years of trucking, but I'm still home everyday. I'm glad all of my mail hauling time was mostly on flat ground, except for running through West Virginia and Pennsylvania, who's mountains can't compare with those out west. No chains east of the Mississippi River.
That was a long time ago. Now with 565 or 605 h.p. And 2050 torque, 18 speed and both rear ends locking up very seldom need to put on chains, and only singles at that. Cheers happy retirement
Third axle would probably pay for it self, but with fuel cost it would be a hard choice for me to make. Stay safe and give Orwell a good hot bubble bath.
Those brown perches are where the state mounts the canons they use to knock loose the snow for avalanche control. They will shut down I-90 while they bring down the dangerous snows packs in a controlled manner.
Incredible truck, so much life left in it! I just started watching, but l had to say thanks! A great dose of reality before the weekend!!! Thanks, l will leave a comment after. That was a nice drive, thanks for sharing 👍🏻. I wish it had been snowing! I love ❤️ driving in the snow ❄️, light snow at home but we're headed for a -25°c tonight, so an extra log or two in the fireplace to stay cozy! See you next time? During that delivery most likely. Safe trip Steve! 👍✌🏻🤘 🌬 ❄️ 🇨🇦.
Third Axel is good as long as you can raise it when not required - good idea if you intend to run with heavier loads or invest in a trailer with rear steering... Excellent footage of the road through the mountains.
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary. The view over the pass was beautiful scenery and then the snow level half to three quarters up the side of Orwell on the shoulders. Thanks for sharing stay safe Steve.
I went over the mountains that day. Heck if I had stopped at the TA I may have seen you. Darn! Yeah, the Cascadia winds were bad that day. They're caused by a huge offshore area of low pressure so the wind blows towards it from the East. So the Olympic Peninsula also had high winds that day. Gusts upwards of 70mph they were saying. Also, that little hut you were asking what it was for was when they used to fire a smaller howitzer or whatever and launch a shell for avalanche control. (They no longer utilize it). And yeah... The Winter came super early this year, all that snow came in Deember which isn't super unusual however we usually get rain and stuff first. We skipped Fall in the mountains and went straight to winter it was a tough few weeks too, multiple pass closures due to large amounts of snow, spin outs, etc.
The new road along the lake where the snow shed was is made to have the avalanche go under it. About 34:37 in the video. The dated capstone from the old shed dated 1952 is in the rest area at the summit.
I live in Washington and am planning on going to cdl school here in October. One of my biggest concerns is the pass during winter. Especially since I’m gonna learn trucking right around this time of year
Hi Steve awesome video, love the angles you choose, just perfect. Been retired for some time but remember the mountains in inter. 5 axle isn’t bad but super b 8 axle 140,000 lbs it tends to be a challenge. 600 h.p. And 2050 torque with 18 speed and all 8 wheels lock-in up is handy to have, problem is drivers with no common sense holding up traffic and making poor decisions. Safe travels my friend
The snow amount I though you see that in Up state NY by the broader of Canada but it seem you get it the same up in the mountains on the west coast. But it shuts down the high way when snow falls or huge avalanche happens. Huge snow blowers and plows to clear them roads. Look at all of the ski slops, never seen one before like that..
The snow shed was taken out just a few years ago and the problem with snow siding down on the road was solved by a whole lot of blasting rock to move the hillside back away from the west bound lanes of the freeway.
Youre required to carry chains over Snoqualmie from Oct-Mar if I remember the signage correctly. Im up and down the I 5 corridor mostly, but have bounced over that pass a few times. Glad you did this vid, Wed Ill be over in my POV, and am going to be taking my travel trailer over that around the 20th of the month. Snoqualmie and a few other passes are areas Im concerned about.
It can snow anytime of the year up on the summit and just down below it. Now in some communities it can snow in June and did in Bend Oregon where me and Dad thought we'd have to turn back to Portland because there was snow on one of the passes before Bend and he didn't have chains in his trunk and we were lucky to get over the pass because the roads were just clear enough and warm enough to where the snow didn't stick to them.
Lol..I'm literally parked in the same spot you was in, right now. First time in snowqualmie too. Not sure why this video came in my recommends. Weird. Be safe brother.
You should check out too see how much a tandem axle booster would be for your lowboy trailer & I don't know what the single axle booster axle would cost either
Whats up biddy just started watching not what im used to but do enjoy the trips your taking and the everyday hussel and bussel and grind of the business 💪💯💪
Great video Steve. I was just thinking about you hauling heavy loads, right before I got on yt 😅 I think you should get a third axel, make more money. Possibly save money faster towards maintaining and fixing Orwell/ the shop.
Snoqualmie pass is beautiful as always! Be safe out there driver, by the way, what kind of a microphone are you running with three cameras? And how do you connect all cameras to one mic
disabled cant do anything winter would love to be able travel see all the sights like i wanna watch will it run or u know who thank you for making videos its like almost being there get see the trees and interesting stuff
Brilliant video, lovely scenery. Question: I am from the UK, so we have different rules of the road here. Why do all the trucks have their hazard warning lights flashing even when moving?
Always liked running PNW, especially enjoyed running Snoqualmie...even in winter during hard snow events.
I had a kayak come off a Subaru about 50yrs in front of me on NH 93. Ran it completely over and didn’t do a lick of damage to my rig. A state trooper showed up and reamed the guy out for 20min, then cited him. Served him right! 😂

That ol truck still getting it done! I know them other truckers be eye balling it as you pass. Nice scenery through the mountains.
That's a beautiful run out west from Snoqualmie all the way to just east of Bozeman Pass.
Wish you could get a good video coming down lookout and forth of July pass❤ stay safe out there keep the shiny side up
Western Washington and Oregon has been one of the most scenic areas in the USA I have been in. Its too bad Seattle and Portland have become so bad since I was last there in 2004.
Thanks for letting me ride along with you, I miss the evergreen state . Made me home sick.
I live in Wisconsin and drive truck. I love old trucks and would drive Orwell in a heartbeat. Love seeing these trucks on the road
Once again nice being in the jump seat. Well ya dodged the bullet as you stayed ahead of the snow. It looked at times it was going to start any minute. Boy Orwell sure gets the job done. I had the same thought when I saw those little cabins on stilts when I first drove through Snoqualmie Pass.
20:23 I spent the night down there on that off-ramp, backed up to the forest service gate. Lost the fuel pump on my pickup, and had to wait four hours for my dad to come save me with my trailer. That was a long night.

At 27:33, the thing you ask about on the platform is a cannon for avalanche control.
aww man, i actually passed you on I-90 with that loader on, I live 20 minutes from the north bend TA, i should have driven through after i saw you, would have bought you breakfast : ) glad to have you in Washington

"That couldn't have been cheap'. Lol, a great ride, thanks.
BEEAUTIFUL Scenery !
Thank You, Steve ! 😊
STEVE that canvas thing near the top of Snoqualmie pass is 105MM canon used for avalanche control . They use it when the snow gets dangerous .
The GoPro View of the back of the cab shaking reminds me of Duel, I love these videos!
Another top video full of content and well informed have you got your mechanic sorted out yet and keep on trucking from the uk 🇬🇧
I used to live in Western Washington. Those things on the side of the freeway are Avalanche Cannons. Been over the pass a 100 times.
Awesome video You’re the best of the truckin TH-cam with the camera angles.
Great Riding with you. 35:40 … "Bless You". 😉
NGL, this vidja makes me miss driving heavy haul OTR. I truly miss the scenery and the open road. STAY SAFE OUT THERE BROTHA!

You are not kidding. It is beautiful up there in Washington. I've been in the mountains of Co and it was awesome!
Thanks for the ride out of north bend i haven't done that ride since 1993 in my 93 pete miss the super slab and cheap fuel
You’re a great American Steve.
Third Axel is good as long as you can raise it when not required - good idea if you intend to run with heavier loads or invest in a trailer with rear steering... Excellent footage of the road through the mountains.

That was a beautiful ride, just like in nz, thank you Steve for an awesome video. Looking at the world threw a windshield.
I have been in NZ and parts of the south island are similar to Western Washington I have been in.
I went over the mountains that day. Heck if I had stopped at the TA I may have seen you. Darn! Yeah, the Cascadia winds were bad that day. Just keep going through Washington way up to Prince George in alberta to see peterbilt Mike's cabovers .
Just went over that a couple of weeks ago. Snow and slush but no chain law. Got lucky! Great video.
That's some beautiful views from the old highway there boys and girls!
Awesome run Steve.the weather is good so far.
Thanks for the ride. Just next door in Vancouver.
gorgeous footage steve.
Feb 4 th I was on my way from Monroe wa made it to Missoula Mt. before nap time hit then Wednesday morning I was home in Georgia
Internet WAGOV will have road cameras you can access for live road conditions.
SUP DRIV,AH? HOPE ALL IS WELL BIG STEVE.. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK/VIDEO'S WE APPRECIATE YOU AND ORWELL.

Good introduction before the action begins ! LOL🥸🥸
Hi Steve what beautiful video really how beautiful landscape is lots snow and as always you be safe 🇺🇸
It's very beautiful country up there i enjoy running up there
great look - the "Don" (respected uncle) of the working cabovers!
In the coming soon scene Steve you look like Luca Brasi from the Godfather movie.
Hi Steve awesome video, love the angles you choose, just perfect. I used to worry about Lookout more than Snoqualmie.
Man , that Pete just purrrs going up the pass .
Great video Steve. Thanks
Good video, I would visit the USA just to do that drive.
It can snow anytime of the year up on the summit and just down below it. I think that little tower you were wondering about on Snoqualmie is some kind of avalanche gun to shoot down avalanches.
Lol..I'm literally parked in the same spot you was in, right now. First time in snowqualmie too. Not sure why this video came in my recommends. Weird. Be safe brother.

I think it's safe to say Steve is not a fan of TA lol.
I can't imagine TA has any fans. I've been in dumpy, rundown mom and pops truckstops that had way better service than TA, and better, home style food.
Big boom stick in the tents to set off avalanches.
I remember them days ,
I don't know what you weigh , but your old push rod cat doing good 🕶
Have a safe trip back home and God bless from GA and stay safe
Orwell in the hammmer lane peeling off ifta stickers up the pass…priceless. 🇺🇸
Can't lie the hills and eastern Washington best view ever
LOl painting Orwell black & Steve calling himself the Godfather. :=}
That was fun, thanks 😊👍😊
Great video Steve. I was just thinking about you hauling heavy loads, right before I got on yt 😅 I think you should get a third axel, make more money. Possibly save money faster towards maintaining and fixing Orwell/ the shop.
Looks like Orwell pulled the mountain pass pretty good
I don't think that load was very heavy, maybe 30K or less, not 40K.
Merhaba çok güzel video olmuş 👍 ❤☝
Junkyard crawl for parts? Add some tubing in an X pattern for upper stacks? Or put sidepipes on it??
Greetings from finland, u make nice videos and always enjoying to watch😎 keep on trucking and making content✌️
Snoqualmie pass is beautiful as always! Be safe out there driver, by the way, what kind of a microphone are you running with three cameras? And how do you connect all cameras to one mic
Thanks sharing
And some have forgotten you all those temp repairs on roads in the cold
disabled cant do anything winter would love to be able travel see all the sights like i wanna watch will it run or u know who thank you for making videos its like almost being there get see the trees and interesting stuff
Cool video, what river is to your right after the old snow shed?
The platform you we're asking about going up Snoqualmie is for shooting shells to clear avalanche potential.
love the content. your truck needs work inside and out.
Oh yeah them are some sweet views
Hody Steve. I have been to that t/a truck stop in north bend Washington
Beautiful truck, one of my favorite out there
Glad thats you there and not me be careful...
Would aluminium tape have quelled some of the noise on that exhaust for the drive home?
Hey Steve watch out for them low flying Chinese balloons.
In Canada we have to carry chains after Oct 1 till April 1 I think.
Anything over 10k is the same on Snoqualmie nov 1 to apr1.
Looks like good Big foot country 10/4
Spent the night at that TA when I went to Seattle. Thier is a decent restaurant across the street. At least better than the TA.
A dumpster is better than the TA.
Brilliant video, lovely scenery. Question: I am from the UK, so we have different rules of the road here. Why do all the trucks have their hazard warning lights flashing even when moving?
It's a courtesy/safety thing, people do that when they aren't doing normal speeds in bad visibility. It's not required by law at least in my state.
@@Fudd_Life Oh OK, thanks.
Awesome video !
Steve the mafia boss of trucking
