Mixing steel and aluminum rims here in Germany is not allowed. Drove 25 years internationally after retiring from the Army in 1984. Enjoy the New Year!
When you think about it Orwell did really well to hold it all together for the most part since you started running him all those years ago and as soon as you get the John wick of mechanics on board, Chris, Orwell demands a bit more attention and fair enough too. I know you have had a few break downs, the rear diffs but he did pretty well at the best of times to keep going.
Hi Steve and Chris great to see more shop content and what a brilliant photo of Orwell just has you opened the shop door and fired him up. All the best on the next trip take care my friend, John from England
Great to see shop work. Chris looked like he wanted to go as those tires were rolling off the dually. Safe travels out to Aspen. Pack for cold weather.
Thanks Steve for the tire video, I'm currently debating between those Firestones you've shown and the Yokohama Y517MC2 that Sammy @ Make Cents channel he talked about that he himself is running. He just did a video showing the new tires he got for his W900. I'll be looking for a set myself very soon for my Pete379 seeing how it came with the same 24.5 tires too. Every time I see Orwell, he reminds me of my childhood when I'd ride with my dad. Brings back fun memories, thanks again. Happy New Year to you Steve, Orwell, Chris and the rest of the FSC Trucking family.
😂 😂 Steve the Air Force pranks 🤣🤣 yup I remember. Go to command post and ask for the aircraft keys, go to the fire department and get a bucket of prop wash, to the engineers squadron and get a yard of flight line.
My brother signed up for the Navy to be a welder. While training his shop sent him to the supply barracks for mahogany welding rods. Joe went to the woodshop got some wooden dowels, carved them to look like welding rods and went back. Needless to say that was the last time he was ever sent for anything stupid.
That's funny . Worked in the fireroom and you put bluing on phone ear piece and have the new guy call the engineroom . Blue ear here we go all day. Send a new shipment up to the bridge for the ekeys to the main engine.
HI Steve, You do a great job explaining your mechanical work. I really find your shop videos interesting. It's kind of like a "To Be Continued" episode when we were kids and you can't wait for next week. Great to see the progress and we all can't wait for the FLD to be back on the road. Watching your garage work also makes me think working on my truck is not quite so daunting. I also enjoy when you are on the road discussing what is going on with today's truck stops, Mega's and how the industry is changing.
I always love getting new stuff, especially new tires on my truck. Now, this is going to show my age, but I remember when trucking companies always ran open shoulder tires. It was the norm, but then, with the price of diesel rising, I never see anyone run open shoulder tires anymore unless you're up in Canada or Alaska.
in Europe it's standard with open shoulders, but we run with a lot more weight on the axles. up north we aslo have winter tires we change to every fall. I do all the tire work for my trucks, don't trust anyone else with it lol
Oh man, that tire almost got the best of you. Let Chris show you how to do it. At the last real job I had we had a in house garage to maintain all the vehicles. There was an old black guy who worked there and he was the tire man. Watching him work was like watching a well oiled machine do its thing. Not a wasted movement did he make and those tire came off and damn near jumped back on and he never broke sweat.
Great video Steve and Chris changing out your drives for 8 new shoes and same tread depth and tread pattern. Thanks for sharing stay safe Steve and Chris.
Chris does it again he's a rock star wrangling those tire like nothing, great shop video Orwell just gets better every time steve comes threw the yard great video, can't wait to see what 2025 brings .👍👍👍
The thing is that if you've been working on trucks or doing any kind of work for that long, you've seen and done it all. I remember doing some work in construction back in my youth and this small guy could easily move very heavy materials and equipment us youngsters struggled with. When we told him he must be really strong, he just laughed and said: "it's not a matter of strength, is how you use your strength and maybe even more important, your weight".
i been off on vacation and been watching all night all week. im not OTR but run lowboy local here in tusaloosa alabama . and to top it off im 50 and have never seen snow like that but one or two times . you steve have inspired me to buy a truck . i figured about 2 years of saving .. we'll see ... meantime ill keep up with fsc trucking love the channel
Good catch on the enlarged lug hole Chris, he's been running them for a while you can tell. Nice job,Chris doing the tire buster job. got skills will travel always , brother!
Those tapered seat wheels are getting harder to find it's probably time to change to hub-piloted wheels. If you have an issue on the road you might be in trouble. Where I live in PA there's only one shop that can deal with tapered seat and they might have to order wheels or lug nuts.
Worked at FedEx Express vehicle maintenance and used a cheetah tank all the time, look at the tag and it will have an expiration date on it because that is considered a pressure vessel. Most of my tire work was on 16”, 17” & 19.5” as I worked on the package delivery trucks, had 50 in my fleet. We ran recaps on the drives, I ran new tires on the steers as my trucks put on so many miles as we were a rural location. The metro locations run recap steers, could never get them to balance or last. Chris puts the tire/wheel on the same way I used too, boot toe on one side and pry bar on the other, made me laugh!
Steve, I hope you left the Rusty Wheel on Orwell somewhere. That became part of his character and his signature for all the time it was on there. And it might have also brought a little good luck along the way! LOL!
@@jsh6952 It was when he put the aluminum rims on, but was that one of the rims he replaced when he discovered that some of the steel rims were worn out?
@jimmclaughlin9362 Yes, he swapped out Rusty for now. Next major service, he's going to replace all of the wheel studs and nut sets and buy 4 new rims
Watching your video when running steel wheels on the inside and aluminum on the outside you should have a plastic spacer ring between the wheels to keep them from oxidizing and coming loose and with the new tires take it easy the first few hundred miles it will be a little squirrelly going into curves
It's always better to have good rubber to keep the rubberside down. In the long run it always pays out. Sooner or later you had to change em anyway sooo might aswell do it before you get into trouble. Great video!
Hey driver I was guy who yelled on the CB about the Diesel bear 10 miles back on 90 in Ohio at roughly 9am. Orwell is alot bigger in person. I knew it was you because of your trailer 😂 Happy New Year!
Hey now Steve Feszchak, good day to you and Chris. This video is what you call hard work🛞. Looks like you have to be strong 💪🏽 to do what you’re doing. Thank you for using wisdom and teamwork. Glad you got your new tires for Orwell, so you can stay safe out there. This is real.🛣️🚛🏔️🗣️🫶🏽🎥💯. Traveling GRACE, Sir! 👀 ya 🔜🔛 the other side of the next 1️⃣☑️🌨️❄️.

They sent me to the magazine once to get "special rubber welding sticks". I was 17 or something and I believed it, but when I saw the smile of the guy behind the counter, I knew I'd been had. Got a nice long coffee-break out of it though because I came up with "the guy at the magazine had me look everywhere because they must be here somewhere", so part of the joke was on the guys who sent me. Just know that it's all in good fun and take your licks.
First time I have ever seen Chris tell Steve not once but twice and look that said don't make me say it a third time how the tires were going to be off loaded from the Duly 😮
You got rid of the Michelin man, the good beers are gone and now you have a set of Firetrucks! Your now ready for the truck Rodeo, with Cletus Snow. See you there. If you do get new rims order direct and truck it yourself?

Aspen is going to be a tough delivery. Windy mountain roads. and I bet some passes mat be closed
Chris is THE MAN!!!!
I think you need to go to junk yard and get some and paint them grey like the truck is.
The rims sorry I forgot to add it

Orwell is looking goid Happy New Year

ORWELL LOOKS GREAT JOB ON THE TIRES ERIC BRINER

This is why I quit running recaps, so many failures of the cap cost me wheels because we were removing and replacing tires all the time.
