    I really wish this would have covered a 6' tank like many people also have. The other part that would have been interesting to see is how much does a cross brace interfere with the light and the par. As i would think that would effect even more people's tanks

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately, we do have limited resources, so we had to pick and choose a few different tank sizes based on what is most popular. This way, we could help the largest number of reefers possible. Maybe we'll have to pick up a 6' test tank sometime in the future and circle back.

    Super grateful you guys are testing the "old" Radions. As soon as my G5 ships out my 120 will be running one G4 and one G5. This makes it super easy to setup both properly. Sadly, mounting height is pretty set with my canopy so I'll have to take that into account.

    Guys how about in depth review of Giesemann Vervve. It looks like a reasonable alternative to Radion, great spectrum, better craftmanship and its also cheaper. You did a short video about it before. As for new Radion... it is so... My LFS sends them all back as they arrive in pieces due to cheap packaging and low quality materials used. You open the box and find a jigsaw of a Radion. I think Vervve might be a better option?

    Are you guys planning on doing a similar video showing the performance of the Radion Gen 4 using the diffuser? Does this change the optimal mount height?

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember how much the diffuser cut in PAR but if you find the information simply substrate with their video, or just lower you light by 1" I guess? I will personally cover that subject on my Channel for the G5, I'm curious to know. I know I will use the Diffuser no matter what, the disco effect annoyed me too much, especially on white sand.

  • @charlesdamewood6299
    @charlesdamewood6299 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Should have touched on these settings with the diffuser on the lights since I think a huge amount of people run them. Would you get similar results with the light fixtures mounted down lower since there is a better spread? How does the g4 with diffuser compare to the g5 without? I think that's the real question.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Solid feedback and definitely a missed opportunity on our part! Looking back on previous G4 testing videos I would expect about a 20-30% reduction in the PAR. Distribution would be very interesting to see if there are changes. There might be an opportunity to do a quick mini Investigates with the diffuser.

    • @raisethereef
      @raisethereef 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was just coming down to the comments to add this. Not testing with the diffuser was a miss for sure. The diffuser makes the G4 so much better. Yes, you lose some PAR but how many of us have been running our Radions at 100% anyway?

    • @charlesdamewood6299
      @charlesdamewood6299 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BRStv that would be great. You're not running that 100% anyways. If there's better spread, plus can be mounted lower for optimal spread, the 20% to 30% loss might mean nothing other than running closer to 100% in the AB+ spectrum. Buying a diffuser to get really close to matching a g5 is a LOT cheaper for those that already have the g4. Especially since you titled this is it worth upgrading.

    • @charlesdamewood6299
      @charlesdamewood6299 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raisethereef exactly. BRS doesn't recommend running 100% . They're roughly 30% below. The g5 is for sure a better light out of the box. I want to know how much better with a diffuser. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a g5 and mount adapter!

    • @charlesdamewood6299
      @charlesdamewood6299 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      85% intensity at 12" for SPS. Could probably mount it 1" to 3"s lower and run it closer to 95% with the diffuser? Maybe even the same percentage since it's lower, so losing 20% to 30% overall with the diffuser shouldn't matter?

  • @007mzm

    Am I understanding right that the recommendations for a cube that the AB+ preset with 85% intensity for all SPS, would be same as applying the recommended BRS settings? Also it is a bummer that the Ecotech Marine hanging bracket comes at 8 inches high when the recommended height is 12 inches....

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For a 24" x 24" x 24" cube, that's correct. Keep in mind that if you're mounting the light lower, you'll want to consider also turning down the intensity a bit too to make sure that you're not providing the tank too much light.

    • @alissontenoriomed
      @alissontenoriomed 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @BRStv

      Our goal for lighting SPS primarily rests on creating a wide blanket of light that eliminates potential shadowing under and around corals. With this in mind we understand that creating that type of light in a larger tank is more difficult to do using modular LEDs rather than a large diffused panel like T5s, in which case to overcome that potential issue we need to add more LEDs. This is actually why we went with multiple XR15's over our 750XXL because we are better able to spread out the individual light sources more evenly across a larger tank and ultimately reduce shadowing effects.

    Why wasn’t this video done at the same time as the Gen 5’s? It seems like BRS just pushed out content for the G5’s resulting in people buying the newer, more expensive, Radions. That is not in the best interest of your customers. Your customers deserve the facts and data before making such a large purchase.

    • @raisethereef
      @raisethereef 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What? The G5s are the same cost new as the G4s. The G4s were discontinued and discounted at that point. They sold out in hours at almost every major outlet.

      I can relate with your frustration here and I really do wish we could push out one of these lighting vids every day, but in all honesty each one takes about 1.5wks to test, film and produce among a team of 3-5 people so we are fairly limited in the speed we can make them while still maintaining a high quality.
