- Video game adaptations come and go, but only recently have they actually been any good. And when it comes to Netflix, they have a pretty alright history of gaming content, judging by their works on The Witcher and Castlevania. But now pushing the boundary even further, Netflix has now greenlit a show that originally had very little cinematic weight to be covered. Can the upcoming Cuphead Show blow our minds with its old school, hand drawn animation? And what kind of potential can they possibly make from such a small prompt...?

The brothers that remortgaged their house to make cuphead must be feeling REAL lucky that they did that

@@arby9768 I agree, it sucks to do that for a NSMB series MK8 Deluxe made sense because at least that was a good game on a bad system ported to a better system but doing the same for the NSMB series is plain lazy as every single NSMB game looked the same since Wii.

There have been a few previews, and from what I've seen it looks promising and has the same charm as the game
They did Invader Zim and Hilda right, even though those are absolutely unrelated teams to one another and probably this project, it just means that they can RULE RESPONSIBLY. But at the same time...

Castlevania fucking blew me away, they took such a simple game and erre able to make such an amazing story out of it with great visuals
I like how you can tell how their personalities will be just by that cover image. Mugman is pretty much the Luigi who looks scared of everything, while cuphead is going to be the Mario who is the brave one. Mugman might be smarter than cuphead he’s just dragged along into cuphead’s trouble.

As someone who overall sucks at cuphead but respects the creators entirely and thinks the game is really cool, the fact they're not the ones making it worries me, but ill be interested in new animation

Since they're going to the whole retro cartoon thing my guess is Ms. Challice will we heavily modeled after Olive Oyl from Popeye. She can be the damsel in distress but she can defend herself too. She can also be the love interest of the 2 boys between another new antagonist of some kind.

I know Walt was somewhat twisted according to some stories, though an excellent boss (once, an employee accidentally lit his mustache on fire trying to light his cigar for him, feared for a whole 24 hours he might get fired, so Walt went and had lunch with him to ease said fears).

One of my dreams as an aspiring game designer is to make a 3D action adventure game with the visual style of traditional 2D.
Wind Waker is the closest thing to this right now, but I'd love to basically have a game that looks like the Black Cauldron. The animation in that film is astounding.

I mean the last Netflix original that was digitally animated but based on hand drawn was Klaus and that was gorgeous so I have faith
I've always found the animation of the Mickey Mouse show to be a very effective homage to classic animation, whilst still being computer animated, so hey, who knows?
I've seen the animation and it is beutiful, I'd say it is a great compromise for hand drawn animation,

I loved your gaming videos Dazz, so seeing you return to talking about them a little bit with this makes me really happy! Cuphead is basically the perfect game to turn into an animated show since it's so revered for it's animation already! It's a bit like the Professor Layton movie: since those games were already loved for their animated cutscenes, an anime movie just made sense.
There are a decent amount of gaming adaptations to other mediums in the spotlight right now, with Detective Pikachu and Sonic, and with upcoming releases like the Mario movie (which I'm slightly worried about because it's Illumination...). As wel as the shows you've mentioned like the Witcher and Cuphead. It feels like the industry has finally figured out what people like about games, and how to turn the into movies or shows? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I tried looking up the cup head show on Netflix and it actually showed the cup head show but no picture just text and the release date was 2021 im very excited for this show

This show was supposed to come out in 2021 during the summer and it never happened. I was really hoping for a new show to watch :')
