  • This is a video to compare the Elgato Wave:3 USB microphone with the HyperX Quadcast S. Both fantastic microphones, with slightly different appeal.
Like the original Quadcast, the HyperX Quadcast S is great for plug and play capabilities, while the Elgato Wave 3 is fantastic for its customisation options for audio routing for streamers.

Features of the Elgato Wave:3 include:
    - Capacitive mute button (touch to mute, not button press sound)
    - Condenser capsule with cardioid only pattern (designed to focus on your voice)
    - Intelligent Clipguard technology that's designed to sooth "overdriven sound" preventing you from peaking, even if you shout
    - 24bit/96Khz sample rate for even better audio capture
    - Boom arm adapter included
    - Brilliant Wave Link software that allows you to route audio into a single channel and more effectively monitor your sound
    Wave:3 Specifications are:
    Capsule: 17 mm Electret
    • Polar Pattern: Cardioid
    • Resolution: 24-bit
    • Sample Rate: 48/96 kHz
    • Frequency Response: 70 - 20000 Hz
    • Sensitivity: -25 dBFS
    • Max SPL: 120dB
    • Dynamic Range: 115 dB (Clipguard Engaged)
    • Interface: USB-C
    • Works with: Windows 10 (64-bit)
    macOS 10.14 or newer
Highlights to this mic are almost certainly the clipguard technology that stops you accidentally peaking and ruining your audio, even when live streaming.
The other highlight is the wave software, which allows you to route different audio sources and actively monitor your audio to hear what the audience is going to hear - perfect for streaming on Twitch and the like.

I haven’t seen a video featuring a comparison of all of the above, but if you have them at your disposal, could you possibly do a comparison between these, the Deity VO-7u, the Rode Podmic usb, the Samson Q9u, and maybe the Maono pd400x? Right now, I’m thinking the Deity and Podmic are in the lead to my wars, but I haven’t heard the same reviewer do everything I’m looking at.

  • @SlurP667

I bought the Wave 3 in 2020 and still love it. At first I just got the extension rods kit, but eventually ended up buying the Rode PSA (non +). Looks like the + just came out around that time and everybody kept recommending the PSA, so that it had to be. Comparing the regular and + now, I don't think I missed out on much. Cable management's fine with the velcros. You could probably 3D print those new holder bits. The arm hasn't made any horrible noise yet and mounting on a 4cm thick wooden tabletop worked just fine. It all came with a warning though. The internet told me to get the shock mount as well because the mic's too light for that arm. So I got the fitting Elgato one. Turns out it was still not heavy enough and kept moving up a bit whenever I adjusted it. There was still that small transport pouch the Motörhead in ear headphones with lying around. Those were horrible and broke fairly quickly, but I kept that pouch. Well it all needed more weight. There were leftover lead weights, the kind you put into curtains. Stuffing those into the pouch and hanging it from the end of the arm did the trick. I can think of something else later.
    I haven't. It's been years. I don't care anymore. 😂

You could probably monitor your mic with some third-party "sidetone" software, but honestly, I recommend using wired headphones instead. Generally, you shouldn't have a major problem since you'd only be using it when you talk into the mic.

The quadcast is designed to be facing towards the speaker. The tip of the mic is blocked of to make room for the mute. You DO NOT want to speak into that if you want optimal audio.

Everybody says to get a condenser microphone, but honestly man a cheap dynamic SHURE SM48 is like $50 bucks and it will blow this thing out of the water. Even the features on the quadcast are silly, you'll never use almost any of those microphone patterns except cardioid. Also for the cost of this mic you could buy an audio interface, xlr cable, and the sm48 and you would sound much better on top of having a professional setup with a cleaner sound and almost no background noise.
