Thank you so much for your video this is the first time in 35 years I've used a knitting machine and had forgotten everything . Your clip worked a treat
I am using this as a base for a cast on rag for my super bond. 160 needles. . I like the thought of the stiffness. I only have two official claw weights but have made my own from hair clips and fishing weights and large washers. Thanks for giving me inspiration.! More later as I continue my Mcgyver adventure.
Fishing weights attached to forks with bent tines work well. I would rather use claws than clips. HOWEVER, check out the machine knitting dealers and see what they have. The heavier fishing weights are not cheap, and you can find lots of shapes and sizes of very convenient MK weights from the dealers and also used. Now, here is more information about machine knitting weights, all kinds, and how much they weigh: diananatters.blogspot.com/search?q=weights It's my blog.
I've got hooks with a small bottle of lotion a belly dnagmcers belt and a porcelain candle holder thing dangling down tied with string 😂 I can't pay 30 dollars for the set of comb and weights right now and it's working OK! My machine is not meant to need weights at all but it really helps a lot. I should just bite the bullet and make my life easier 😂
Diane. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. It makes a scatter brain like me think I really can master this beast. You are so sweet👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻
Diana I. Really like watching your videos, well explained, and great tutorials I have just finished several pairs of your mittens last week. This latching behind the needles was a new one on me.
Diane this was a fantastic video, I have never seen this done before even though I have been machine knitting for years. I have many of your books. You make it very easy to understand.
One of my favorite techniques is the same but I do on the purl/back side and it creates an invisible flat lying hem, never though to do it on the front but it has a very good look to it!
Diana and all, I found that I cast as you showed, but I wrap the yarn around the needle from above (rather than under it). It gives me a cleaner edge. No curling: I cast and then put every second needle into D position for two rows, then one row all down. Then I put every OTHER second needle into D position and knit two rows, then all needled back for one row. Sorry I cannot explain with technical terms or put a picture of the sample, but it does give a flat start. Thanks.
I am demonstrating this on a computeried flat knitting machine, so I don't quite understand the question. If you're wondering whether the machine carriage can do this instead of it being done by hand, no. The carriage slides the needles in and out to form knit stitches and it does not have an ability to put chains on the needles.
You would do this procedure on the last few rows, then do a loop-through-a-loop bind off or a tapestry needle backstitch bind off. You should swatch this - it's thick and not stretchy. It would not be appropriate to edge a stretchy blanket.
Good morning is there instructions or youtube of how to knit a blanket on the Brother KH940 with a garter carriage? I want both sides to be knit in seed stitch or similar pattern with a different pattern in the center. thank u
Thanks, very much. I've been looking for a good cast on for making scarves and this looks great. Now, when you reach the end of the scarf, I assume you would repeat this process and maybe end with a loose loop-throuh-a-loop bind off. Correct?
John Bozzola Yes, it works just great for the end of the piece, as well. I first saw it on a stand-up collar that Charlotte Powell made. In fact, you can use this anywhere you want a horizontal line, or even use it to add another color, if you want, just keep in mind the change in texture and firmness that it causes. I think it would be wonderful for scarves.
That machine has very similar controls to the Brother machines that i teach on, but no, I do not have videos specific to that machine. In fact, I no longer own one of those.
Would this be possible to do at the side of a project, say you're knitting a cardigan and you want to use that as the band and knit it on. Would it be possible ?
That's an interesting idea. I don't know, it might be quite possible. You would have to be able to get all the knitting onto the bed - the side band couldn't be wider than what would work over 200 needles. Not sure how I'd do buttonholes in it. A very interesting question!
I have a Brother KH 940 and I am unable to knit when the needles are in E position. Am I doing something wrong? Maybe I don't understand how to do this latch cast on. Any help would be appreciated. Love your videos!
Can this be done on a silver reed sk280 knitting machine I'm finding it difficult to slip so that I can the yarn across the needles to do the next row of crochet cast on
I do not have a Silver Reed 280. Many Silver Reed machines have a lever that pops the whole carriage up so you can slip across anything, but I don't know if that one does. Can someone here help Angela with this question?
@@323352 Sure! When I grabbed the thread from one side and latched across, the thread ended up on the opposite side from the carriage. You've got to deal with that, usually by moving the carriage in a free pass, before you can knit again.
I have a bond ultimate sweater machine. I have tried several times to do the knit row with and without weights. I always lose stitches or it jumps over several stitches. I can usually pick them up. Today i decided to just hand manipulate the stitches. Time consuming but i am getting the hang of it. Do you also do the same edge when finishing the item. I want to use it for scarves and maybe baby blankets. Is it a good edge for this?
Go ahead and swatch it in your yarn, and see how it behaves. This is a very firm, non-stretchy edge. You might be happier with hand-manipulated ribbing or garter stitch for scarves and blankets.
I only use Shetland wool, that’s probably why... will try again to keep it slack. How about the tension on the machine ? I used 9 (it’s a knitmaster). Thank you again x
If you practice this at the beginning of the work, I think you will see that you can add a row of horizontal latch trim anywhere in the work, including in the last few rows. I would do a row of latching, knit 2 rows, and repeat as many times as I wanted lines. End by doing a loop-through-a-loop cast-off, as shown in many of my videos.
Thank you Diana, i like it! ❤ A knitter from the Netherlands
I just realized -- you are like the Bob Ross of knitting! Such a lovely, soothing voice, and of course, top notch work!
She is!
You are the rock-star of knitting.!!Thanks so much for your great, great videos.

I'm just starting on the knitting machine, but learning a lot!

I've actually never done it on the purl side. Maybe I'll do a video!
Thank you very much for showing this great technique!
Thank you SO MUCH! You`re incredible.
I love watching these mind tripping machine knitting techniques 🤓
how would you bind off using the same method?
Diana, thanks a lot!

Very very nice
Thank you for the great video fellow Texan.
Una genia!!!!
Thank you kindly.
How do you do the slip over after knitting a row
woo,you are so so great!
Отличная идея!
ciao Diana ho fatto il bordo del video ,molto bello
How do u get the same look on the other end?
really fantastic video,, i was wandering if this pattern can knit on computerized flat knitting machine, that is would be great if could..😃

What is the matching cast off? Say if I wanted to make a baby blanket with this look on both ends.

Would this technique work for a partial row? Such as only working this on the outside 5 needles on each side?
Diane how do you do the slip at the end of the row please
i would like to know what brand and model of machine that you are using?
Lindo💖💖
Do you have video tapes for Brothers 830 electronic knitting machines
That machine has very similar controls to the Brother machines that i teach on, but no, I do not have videos specific to that machine. In fact, I no longer own one of those.

Hello ! Do your think it is possible to make this point with the LK150 please ? Thank you
Yes!

Diana Sullivan do you think i can put in a ravel cord at the beginning to help me do the knit row with my machine instead of hand knitting it?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Brilliant video thank you. I’ve tried it but the yarn keeps breaking after row 2 or 3. What tension do you work with ? What am I doing wrong ? Ta
Just using an ordinary acrylic yarn. Keep your latching tension loose.
I only use Shetland wool, that’s probably why... will try again to keep it slack. How about the tension on the machine ? I used 9 (it’s a knitmaster). Thank you again x
Ok, used another machine and kept the tension as slack as I could, and it’s worked ! Scarf looking lovely. Thank you Diana x
No new video, why
This is so "suave". Can't imagine ever using different again
