Tbh, I think you touched on this but I saw a fleshed out vid on this from SQ: Basically, they had a vision and a direction they want the game to go in, and that's fine, but the balance on a character to character basis does not seem to match or fulfil that direction. Like you said, it's strange for them to say they want more interactions so tweak the defence ratings, while also giving characters more damage. They also highlighted easier combos were doing too much damage, and they resolved that with pretty much similar easy routes that do the same or sometimes more damage. I'm still shocked I can 2 pot buster Millia. I may be a Glue Sniffing Pot, but, that's one less interaction than last time. lol
Great video, and I agree with you! IMO, this patch has been a breath of fresh air compared to the last. It got me back in the mix, barring the obvious bugs, of course. Streamed last night, and l had a lot of fun with it; they got me back in the mix for now. Just make some small adjustments in this new direction, and I'll remain happy.
i wish they work on the wall system too, i hate not ending my combo just to keep wall. i like what kev suggested before where we only break the wall with supers
No joke the gg zoomers have been complaining more about season 4 then the old heads did about strive. Its fucking crazy. I dont usually comment in a video a few minutes in, but im making an exception
I really like that they wanted to solidify the identity of some characters, like I don’t think every character should rush you down and be putting you in some RPS situation, like I don’t think that’s what Axl should be about. I think Axl had sauce before that buff existed, and I still think he has sauce with Axl Bomber and I think he is a functional character who I do think is buffed if played into his strengths, because I feel as though he really can check mate someone and wittle them into a position where having good execution to convert into 2-3 Bombers to confirm a round. Whistling winds is a well designed move and I feel like people only rain on its parade because there were inexcusable buffs. I feel like people would like the direction of making their character not feel like just another weaker version of a different character, if they actually didn’t go and jump into the deep in by thinking that means they should give Goldlewis some Nago shit on block with typhoon cancels and a machine gun that does more damage than the supers of these characters also cursed with low health. Some characters just have it so the odds are so stacked against them, like there should not be matchups (even if Millia plays well into so and so% of the cast) that fee like an 8-2 or 9-1, like it does right now with her and Nago or Goldlewis
Hey Shin, nice vid as always, havent finished yet though, however, a thing that ive notice from the last few videos is, the bgm of them is a bit too loud. I dunno if its you who edits your videos or somebody else, but you should lower the music just a little bit, can be distracting sometimes.
Real talk: I only learned about GG as a franchise this decade. Heard the music without ever knowing the game (IWBTG) and fell in love with the music. Haven't played the game a day in my life because I do not know how to unga in the old ones. What I've had to do quite a bit is try to learn story and mechanics while learning other games I'm familiar with. The good side to this is learning a little as I step my toe into GG. The bad side is hearing everyone complain about Strive like it was a Top 10 anime betrayal by going from anime to grounded footsie. I say that to say this: After hearing everything about the game for the last 3 seasons, I found this season to be the most interesting. Of course, there's issues but I'm almost to the point that I want to play. It's not another SF6, which was season 1, it's not necessarily their past titles with a lot of heavy offensive pressure (imo) and it looks to try to merge the vision of something unique to them which is a merging of the two. I can't play MVC2 to save my life so getting into older GG is harder for me. But Strive looks to give me a bit more to work with while Oldheads constantly complain about it.
I'm surprised NO ONE has talked about Dizzy's corner pseudo "block infinite" with her spike and wings of Light setup where you block the spike/kunai repeatedly while Wings of Light DRAINS your health. Baaru demonstrated this with his Dizzy.
It is cheap, but the counter play is currently there to where it isn't as big as deal as it is with some of the other stuff. It is should be addressed, but it isn't at the forefront of anyone's thoughts when Ram sword toss bug is a thing, along with a lot of other bugs.
@@joaquinbitancor1269 The Kunai type spike where she throws it upward then it goes down. Baaru Abuses this in the corner as a "block Infinite" type and once the wings are activated watch the opponent Health bar Drain just as Nago's HP drops when he has full blood gauge
Should've been done sooner BUT we have to congratulate and thank them for finally responding this meaningfully. There's no sense in punishing them for finally doing the right thing.
It makes sense to give characters more options in the way to play the game and the characters as the life cycle of strive goes on. Only thing is if they want to do that, maybe it best to create better defense in dealing with those options like the game not needing to still be as high damage and movement to get the new options.
I'm with you, as a long time player and (semi-retired) competitive player of GG. Ky's SS is the equivalent of his Xrd's DC, and Xrd Ky was probably the most fun I had playing with Ky due to his unique system mechanics. Having 4 way crossups with SS CSE, and crazy DI shenanigans, is what I was missing with this character. They just need to tone down the damage and open things up a bit more, and this game will be just as crazy fun as ACR and Xrd. Glad you're back to this game, but your grey hairs remind me of my own, and how we're getting old lol😫😭😭
Come play Granblue Rising with us. Our game is not as crazy fast, but there is a lot of play style variety among the characters, the resource management is super tight, the gameplay is really rewarding, and the competitive aspect is more balanced and stable than ever. Also no noticeable bugs.
I did play granblue actually and I mained grimnir lol but nier was a bug to me lol. She was pretty cheap and not to mention Beatrix got nerfed in like what 2 weeks? Lol both games have issues but I hear you lol! Grimnir gameplay: th-cam.com/video/ICF9HWmH6UA/w-d-xo.html
For me the game is getting better. I complained about Anji Since Season 1. He is objectively better but less fun to play. I put so much love and work into his tools and having them stripped away kills my motivation. Faust kept getting buffs (not all of them are what I asked for but they are welcomed.) This patch showed me thry opened up my character but their Flaws are still present and its not exactly fixing what their issues are...they just gave them more to do. I would also say for Anji it's still RC the Game. They removed most of his meter less Damage routes and stick them to just 2 hit Nagiha or Raw hit Nagiha. Season 1 Anji despite how bad he was...was more fun for me personally. Like what you said and did I adapated to the changes and kept going (until season 4 where K dropped Anji and now playing Hard stuck Faust) Playing more Faust again just reconfirm the issues i had with him since season 1 and they didn't fix most of it and its a little annoying but not as much to make me stop. I just have to shake my head and see if i have options. I can keep going but i hope what i made was clear and made sense from my perspective.
As a Millia main yes the patch hurts a bit (I don't really get why kapel got nerfed),but god damn im having way more fun than in previous seasons I do agree they are pushing on the right direction, they just need to keep fiddling and tweaking the game (especially with defence ratings and damage) dp rc could come back too I agree with this, they just need to find a way to not make it as stupid as it was before (sol HVV rrc into death from almost anywhere on the screen) I'm hyped for this season,im not discouraged by the bugs,I feel like they are cooking something and just need a bit more time !
Well I play Aba and my friend plays Elphelt and we mainly play against each other, so I feel like Aba got out mostly okay, but his Elphelt is scarier now. Thats been the majority of my experience
I agree this patch isn’t bad but these changes made me realize I’m not liking the direction of simplification n the way they kinda force u to play a certain play style sin for example. I’m a sin main n when he released I was happy but disappointed how bad bd was n no elk leap n the fact they added his still growing move n it was useless n every sin main been begging for a buff or a change n we still got nothing but on top of making sin neutral worse making his stamina have a cd n it regents slower n Kara cancelling into his super eats up your bar now and all the cool stuff u want to do cost at least 2 bars so your left with only 1 n u can’t really do anything with 1 so even more reliant on neutral but it’s worse now n he has no way to clash or beat projectiles n his gazelle step is still slow n doesn’t low profile anything meaningful pretty much so fuk. Can’t even conserve stamina w sin cuz your pretty much handicapping yourself cuz his special without the follow ups kinda suck but elk hunt is the best
Well I think it is still a big deal because even if there were zero bugs the whole balance direction of this patch is good on paper but bad in execution. z a t o, milia, jacko, that man, and other harder characters get their annoying tool nerfed with not much to compensate while the gorilla normal guys get reworked into being lamer and better. The balance is crap, gold is too strong, RAM is too strong even without nerfs, John ensanga changes make his combos lame, need I go on?

I been havin so much fun the new Leo combo routes are kinda saucy same with chipps new tight rope
