I've done ALL recommended services, never had it off road nor have I towed anything, it’s an in town and highway driver. It looks brand new to this day. However, at 103,000 miles my 10-speed transmission had a complete failure leaving me stranded. My $3,900 extra cost extended warranty ended at 100,000 miles; I was just 3,000 miles past that. I just had the transmission serviced at 95,000 miles. Now this brand-new transmission I had to purchase cost me $8,407.00! This is ridiculous!
Love the channel. I’m on my 2nd F150. Had a 15 xlt 4wd with the 3.5tt and had no issues an all for 86k miles. Upgraded to a 20 Lariat 4wd and went with the 3.5tt again. No issues and the upgrade was worth it. Love the 4a setting in bad weather. I have been able to get over 24mpg on a long trip. Best road trip vehicle. I average around 18-20mpg mixed driving.
I can’t see that ever happening without changing that rubber oil pump belt. I’ve seen a tear down on TH-cam with one at around 100,0000 miles and that belt was covered very obvious cracking across its top surface.

It's been a fantastic truck, the only check engine it had was for an EVAP leak (easily solved) but everything about the engine and transmission has been sound. It gets very decent MPG and it moves quicker than it has any right to . I only wish the STX carried a power sliding rear window or an overhead console but they're not deal breakers and I understand Ford wants to put you into an XLT with options or above to get those. @jimmyneutron3055 haven't changed the transmission fluid, rear brakes 90,000mi ,and plugs at 100,000 mi ,front brakes are finally getting close to needing replacement
People and even mechanics (Scotty) have this negative perception of turbo motors that's based on what turbo motors were like in the 90's and early 2000's when manufacturers were taking an existing motors and slapping an off the shelf turbos on the side. Most of today's motors are designed from the ground up to be turbocharged. The blocks are cast with sophisticated internal cooling jackets and are made of special alloys, the 2.7 here is made from compacted iron graphite, the same technology used in their 6.7 diesel. Most turbo motors these days actually run cooler than many of their NA counterparts. The turbos themselves are also far more sophisticated with better lubrication and cooling.
Yet HD still have v8 why is that? Because v8 last longer. Turbos won’t hold up to abuse. Since 1/2 have become family haulers they aren’t getting abuse like they use to and turbos will probably hold up if you don’t use your truck.
@agentcarder turbos actually last longer when they are used, any mechanic will tell you that. Most turbo related issues are from owners driving their vehicles without using much boost
Great interview. A few points (not trying to contradict the guest) 1. He probably has a microfracture in the radiator thats not leaking but evaporating coolant. I wouldn't worry about it but the level of fluid loss he is experiencing is excessive. Secondly, manufacturers lie about service intervals to keep "cost of ownership" low on the retail side. Look to see what the recommendations for service are on the commercial side. As a GM owner I do my transmission services at 45,000 miles because thats what the "severe service" recommendation is for fleets.
I have had two F150's with the ecoboost, the 1st with the 6spd and now I have one with the 10spd and both are similar that you can get good gas mileage at 65-70mph but anything over and I loose mpg
I am still a 5.0 fan. That small engine has to work harder and just a matter of time before the turbo goes out. Now if you are going to trade every couple years great but to keep theres no replacement for displacement. I have a 2011 f150 290,000 no engine or transmission problems yet. The radio went bad, blend door and had to replace the gasket on the oil pan.
The small engine has a tougher build than the 5.0. it's just a matter of time until anything breaks. I had a 2.7t before and wouldn't by the 5.0 in an F150. That engine has terrible low end torque. Fine for the mustang, but you have to rev it out in the truck - which isn't helping longevity itself.
I own a 2020 2.7 stx supercab. Im the second owner, bought it new/used from the dealer. Have owned it since 12/21. Came with all the warranties plus and extended premium package which was needed a year in. The 1st owner turned the truck in with 9000 miles and had more time idleing than driving. Just had the whole catalytic converter system replaced with the warranty. Other than that, it's a blast to drive.
I’ve owned 2 Toyotas. T100 with the 3.4 (297k). 2006 Tundra 4.7 (245K). Absolutely dead on reliable Both. MI=rust. 2 weeks ago traded into a 2020 f150 Stx crew 4x4. 17K Love it. I’ve always used synthetic and 5k changes. Firm. Rest of the fluids changed “around” suggested miles. Tow a 17’ fishing boat the usual amount of time. Many big trips to CO, Wy, TN. I am absolutely planning/hoping on similar results on this F150.
I have a 2020 2.7 ecoboost. I had the cel came up for a bank 1 catalytic converter issue during 35,000 miles. I tried cataclean and it did clear the lights for about 5000 miles. Problem arose first time around aug 2023 of this year, clear the light, came back on nov 2023, went away, and finally reappeared around Christmas. I dropped my vehicle off for a diagnose last Tuesday and the dealer has ordered both cats and had them replaced for free under warranty. I have only used top tier gas from Costco or shell. Otherwise, this vehicle has been very reliable. No transmission problem or sync3 issue like the person stated in this video. I’m approaching 50k soon. If you are purchasing this vehicle, I highly recommend you get their ford backed extended warranty through Ziegler or Flood. It’s worth it and cheaper than buying it from your local dealer.
I have a 2012 Rav4 with the V6, I don't tow but I do drag race alot of unsuspecting people who have no idea how much power the normally aspirated engine makes. 270hp.
Great info! I have the 2019 XL STX 2.7, 28K miles. It's only had 2 issues. Alternator needed replaced and a turbo. Turbo - If truck sat for a week or longer, on initial startup it spewed a dark cloud until warmed up. I tow a boat trailer (~2,800lb) with it. I've been pretty happy with the Truck.
I have the 2019 2.7 EB STX RWD (Supercab). Truck has all the power needed and more. I haven’t experienced any dash/camera/Synch 3 issues in 45k miles. I did have a check engine light at approx. 30k (CAT bank 1). I cleared the code on my own scanner and never came back. Maybe was bad gas. I tow a boat about 2200lbs loaded prob once or twice per week. I get better gas mileage here in eastern NC, average 23+ mpg on 87oct. There’s so much that plays into that number (driving style, fuel quality, tire pressure, environmental conditions, city v. highway, etc). So far the truck has been fantastic. The only thing I’d wish Ford would change is the clamshell back doors. GM & Dodge both have regular swing doors on their extended cabs. Ford needs to do the same.
Fuel quality makes a big difference in mpg’s. I’ve been using top tier 87 octane for the last yr an half, and then had to buy some gas from a Kroger grocery store, which is not top tier. And since I’ve been using that fuel I’ve noticed the so far the mpg avg has been consistently lower. And it’s been the same driving style and route
The problem with today's STX trim is additional options are NOT AVAILABLE at all, no exceptions. If you could a la carte a few extras it would be fine, but NO.

Hey Tim, not true about the remote start with the new tundra. I have a 2023 tundra I bought in 2022. Mines 13 months old, the free connected vehicle subscription expired. I cannot start it via the app. Remote start works fine from the key fob.

Exactly, just like I've posted above about transmission issues ( but not only limited to) in both 2019 and now in 2022 I have - it proves more of a miss in my case. Overall it's a quality of Chinese vehicle for not more than $20k. My wife had one Honda for 8 years and in that time I'm on my 3rd Ford, lol. Pretty much every month in the shop - in 2023: 4 times for service and 7 times for warranty and recalls. Bought new, currently 38k kms. Built Tough, LOL
I just called my local Ford dealer to get 2 recalls done on my 2022 F-150 Powerboost. They said we won't even touch recall work for the next 9 months!!!! One of the recalls is a major safety issue. I can see the lawyers lining up now! Still, overall I love my Truck, the dealership/warranty experience has been a royal PITA! They take weeks to months to schedule you with service, and weeks longer to get parts. And forget about loaners or rentals they will fight your ass tooth and nail. FORD better get their act together or this will cause them to lose customers. And yes! Your mileage may vary! And Yes! You may have good service from your Ford dealer, but my nearest one sucks.
Dealership issue, not Ford the manufacturer. My dealership has been really good about any recalls my f150 has had. For example I had that heatshield recall that touched the driveshaft, the part was back ordered and they gave me a loaner for 3 weeks. Was it inconvenience? But they handled the situation well.
It's all in dealer. I had a CEL on my ecosport and one dealer fixed the cam position sensor. It came back on so I went to another dealer and found out it had low oil engine damage from an earlier fender bender damaging the oil filter. The first dealer never caught the hole in the oil filter and just cleared code and sent it. Good service and qualified mechanics can prevent alot of headaches.
I got tons of issues with my F150 2019 IWE system. I put my car at Ford on 2022 and they charge me 400 USD and they problem did not got fix. It was suppose to be warranty. Last year I bought the parts and I fixed the IWE. They also have an issue on right assembly tail light, it was not properly mounted. Sometimes I can heard my V8 engine rattle but only when is cold and not every day. It is pretty good so far after fixing it. I also have wet floor mats on the passenger seat. I bought the cone online and fix it, it has been good since them. Sync 3 can do wireless if you get an usb - wireless adapter. It cost like 30 usd.
Good vid watched the whole thing, have a 2018 2.7 Supercab xlt bought used w 29k miles, still love it after 5 year ownership. 88k miles and counting. The 10 speed will sometimes take a bit to pump up before going into reverse after sitting but has been rock solid otherwise. Your friend is correct 21 mpg is the average on highway. It really is luck of the draw on reliability of these trucks but think the lemons are a rarity. Oil is cheap, full synthetic 5k mile changes if going for the long haul.
We can't give our Ford Raptor a thumbs up. It's been nothing but a headache. Whether it's Ford, the manufacturer itself, or their dealerships. We've gone to different dealerships thinking maybe it's "just this dealership." No, they're all the same. They need to get their act together.
@@patgarrett9454unfortunately, if you’re looking for a full sized truck, there’s no real good option anymore. Even Toyota has lots of issues and also demands a premium price. If used car loans weren’t so high, I’d suggest an older car. But that’s just as expensive as buying a new now!
On my 2015 at 68,000 one turbo failed. No issues for a long time. At 130,000 i started to see some white smoke with no check engine or fluid leaks. It’s been a good truck overall.
Even tho GM and Ford went together and Developed the 10speed auto . GM seems to have done a better job with their 10speed auto less problems more reliable
Every project GM and Ford sink money in together, the GM version is better because they put more time into tuning. This wasn't their first transmission they shared R&D dollars on.
It all has to do with TC lockup for GM, which keeps the temp down. Ford has a huge problem keeping the Temps down. I never see over 185 on my denali hd, towing 16k+. For some reason, Ford seems to think 210+ isn't a problem? I beg to differ on that. 48:01
I think if I get an F150 I might get the Coyote 5.0 if it is still offered. Turbo engines just cant replace natural aspiration for engine sound, and reliability.
2024 STX 4x4 with the interest rate increasing (72 months) through Ford credit, is more money than my 23 XLT standard range lightning. The prices are nuts now.
I have a 2020 Ranger Lariat FX4. I love the turbo and the low end torque. It also is amazing driving at elevation compared to my old '14 Tacoma. So far no issues. I just wish the 2024 Ranger would get released. 38K miles. Mine does have wireless CarPlay and android auto.
I find it a bit amusing when people brag about 20, 30 or even 100k like the vehicle has really accomplished something. Guessing they’ve never owned Toyota. In 2020 I looked at replacing my 07 Tundra. I looked pretty closely at a F150 and a Ram. I’ve owned about 8 Rams in the past. I wanted another long term truck. Sort of wanted an ecoboost for the power and mileage but was concerned about reliability. I found a TH-cam video bragging about how the owner of F150 has 200k miles. He listed all the things he had done/replaced on the truck. Sorry it was a pretty long list and I wasn’t impressed. I talked with a good friend that always drove F150’s and he really liked his 2019 but said don’t drive them much past the warranty before you replace it. Not what I wanted to hear. Those days of buying a new truck every 2 years were behind me. I replaced the shocks and struts and the starter on my tundra in the 13 years and 250k miles. The truck really held up both inside and out even though I was pretty hard on it. It even still had the original plugs. I finally came to the conclusion to get another Tundra. It’s nothing too flashy but it is reliable. But admittedly I’m not too sure the new redesigned Tundra will last as long though.
@@paulhunter9613 7 million mile tundras now. 200k is just a good start with a Tundra. Find a million mile F150 with a million miles on the original powertrain….. won’t.
You might've mentioned these points, but I never heard three key bits of info in relation to MPG'S: Rear gear ratio? Cruising speed on the hwy? Hills or flat on main routes?
Perfectly fine because obviously you drive a lot and a lot of those miles are obviously highway apples. To oranges. People don't realize you drive so many short trips with a lot of ethanol. You cannot stretch those oil changes
These little problems people are having with trucks is frustrating. Its like they dont test and/or let crap go out the door to keep the production line moving and letting the dealer fix.

I will never hook up a sync system from any manufacturer. They collect all you personal information, they know everywhere you go and when and how you drive your car. Totally unnecessary in my opinion. Same with android auto and apple car play. Just pay attention to your driving and turn the radio on or talk to the people that are with you.
And if the truck has Sirius radio option, look at the very fine print in the contract you must agree to. For some reason they have to know the location of where you drive and keep track of your personal information. I don’t need that

I bet they screwed up on the service at 95k.
...never service a trans...this has been known for 40 years

Love the channel. I’m on my 2nd F150. Had a 15 xlt 4wd with the 3.5tt and had no issues an all for 86k miles. Upgraded to a 20 Lariat 4wd and went with the 3.5tt again. No issues and the upgrade was worth it. Love the 4a setting in bad weather. I have been able to get over 24mpg on a long trip. Best road trip vehicle. I average around 18-20mpg mixed driving.
Just change that oil every 3-5k and you’ll get another 100k miles
3,000 max is all I go
10K oil change interval for me. its 201,000mi, still purrrrfect!😂
Hopefully will have an owner with the 2.7 ecoboost reach 500k and Tim can interview him or her that would be great
I can’t see that ever happening without changing that rubber oil pump belt. I’ve seen a tear down on TH-cam with one at around 100,0000 miles and that belt was covered very obvious cracking across its top surface.
why? after 150K a vehicle really doesn't owe an owner anything.
@@drizler mine's got 189K miles under its oil pump rubber belt. There are many1st & 2nd generation 2.7 engines with over 300K. I just saw one 2nd gen with 540K miles in Mileage Impossible group on FB
I own a 2018 F150 Super Crew STX 4x4 with the 2.7 Ecoboost and 189K miles.
I was coming from a 2014 Ram with the Pentastar and the Ford has much more power without a penalty on fuel economy.
I have a 2018 stx fx4 2.7 10 speed with 167,000 miles no mechanical issues, just regular maintenance, spark plugs and rear brake pads, still runs as new 21-22 mpg even has original 6 yr old battery
Have u ever replaced the transmission fluid? Around what miles did you change you the spark plugs and brake? Thanks !
@jimmyneutron3055 haven't changed the transmission fluid, rear brakes 90,000mi ,and plugs at 100,000 mi ,front brakes are finally getting close to needing replacement
This is an awesome segment Tim.Really enjoyed the owner's perspective on that particular model. And yes ,turbos actually do last😊
I just drove 18 hours from FL to Tx in my 23 BaseSquatch w/ the 2.7. I don’t think any vehicle is comfortable on super long road trips. I love my 2.7.
How many heavy duty vehicles with turbo diesel engines are on the road? Turbo does not have to be a problem when engineered and maintained correctly.
@@Sylvan_dB @agentcarder is one of the folks who get scared of something new and feel the need to tear it down
As a 2015 first gen 2.7 owner im happy to hear this
Great interview.
Some really good conversation. I'm a big ecoboost fan. I have no problem getting good fuel mileage. It comes down to driving style.
Yup and cruising speed. Going 65 I get 1-2mpg better than when I want to go 70-75.
I have had two F150's with the ecoboost, the 1st with the 6spd and now I have one with the 10spd and both are similar that you can get good gas mileage at 65-70mph but anything over and I loose mpg
@@jmjm3543 I have also had a best of 26 mpg with a 2.7, driving at 75-78 mph, so it will get great mpg’s
Same. 2014 with 230K. Replaced all blend doors and new radio. On original motor (5.0) and trans.
Can't deny the 5.0 sounds great though, and it's good you haven't had any major trouble.

I have a 2020 XLT and currently waiting on cats to be replaced otherwise no issues.
I’ve owned 2 Toyotas. T100 with the 3.4 (297k). 2006 Tundra 4.7 (245K). Absolutely dead on reliable Both. MI=rust. 2 weeks ago traded into a 2020 f150 Stx crew 4x4. 17K Love it.

Now, there is a man who will never forget your name.
The problem with today's STX trim is additional options are NOT AVAILABLE at all, no exceptions. If you could a la carte a few extras it would be fine, but NO.

My friend bought a 2015 F250 2.7L with a new motor, my opinion, Ford is hit or miss. Some have great luck, some blow up 2 years in.
I know it is a dealership issue, but it still reflects poorly on Ford that a major safety issue gets put off 9 months by a FORD DEALER! @@jmjm3543
Get a wireless USB adapter. Mine works great.
My old '18 STX could get 26mpg (2WD) if I was careful.

Bought a wireless adapter on Amazon no longer have to plug in for Apple Play on my 2019 Ram 1500. Device is by Bluetooth.
