"The King of Kong" is a great film which essentially drives home this exact point: villains like Billy Mitchell frequently, unfortunately, thrive in this world while legitimately talented people, like Steve Weibe, inevitably struggle.
This video references that film a few times. It's hard to tell if Karl Jobst is implicating it in Mitchell's lies, judging from some of his statements here. If so, I would strongly disagree. It's obvious (I feel) the filmmakers behind "The King of Kong" believe Mitchell is a total twat and were in no way in league with him.

Any complaints or questions about him or his scores were ignored or dismissed. What really changed things is when Twin Galaxies accepted a dispute resolution process for scores where the truth couldn't be covered up easily anymore.
But the thing that really made it possible to finally go after Billy Mitchell was his close friend (and former TG official) Todd Rogers finally being exposed as a total fraud. After Todd Rogers had been proved to be a cheat, they just couldn't ignore all the old Twin Galxies scandals anymore.

There's almost no chance that this suit will get tossed as "frivolous" because it is about commercial fraud, insider trading and market manipulation. Even if a single one of the larger claims holds up its still a big deal because of the use of position of power to attain personal financial gains- also known as conflict of interest- that means the failure to recuse themselves and use an independent arbitrator to moderate the situation of Mr. Mitchells high scores is tantamount to insider trading.
The damages amount? Most opening damages sought are changed, they have to set an initial bar to indicate the seriousness they believe their case holds with a number which they contend the transgressions could be measured against.
So, what gets tossed and why?
“If you take away my high scores I’ll be nothing!”
“If you’re nothing without the high scores, then you don’t deserve to have them.”

@@taz9419 Apollo has been shown to be an asshole before, but with the Billy Mitchell case, he got scared and decided to hear him out, basically being paid so he would never talk to him again and also deleting all of his videos talking about Mitchell.
There's some new drama regarding Apollo now, like how he hasn't returned money to people that supported him in the Mitchell case's Gofundme, but that's another story.

@@kothemagica I am sure they have more important stuff to do than correct minuscule shit like that. Especially when it means nothing. Problem is, once that becomes a part of financial fraud they might get interested in making sure everyone knows they had no conscious involvement. In an extreme case, they could sue for damage to their public image and reputation, but I highly doubt it. Mitchell is a niche influence in a niche hobby, there are better things to do than chase him.

This is the guy who held the record in Donkey Kong until someone else came along and beat it then he immediately sent a updated score in a video tape, scoring higher, and the people who did the scoring accepted it whilst going over the other guy with a fine tooth comb to make sure he wasn't cheating. Right? If so they never held him to the same standard as the newcomer and didn't do the proper checks. Sounds like corruption to me.

Suing people maliciously and as a form of harassment can have you declared a Vexatious Litigant, which can severely limit or even have him lose the right to file lawsuits frivolous or not. At the very least that could stop him from harassing people in the future. At least in my country. I don't know if his state has such laws.
