As a Brit now living in Canada, I like this channel. I get to see all the landscapes of where I grew up and hiked, and a Canadian toque sitting on your noggin. Cheers Henry!
"look at this, I'm just lucky here"........ A classic example of making you own luck Henry. All those who went home had no luck I guess! 🤣🤣👍 Great video again.
Makes sense, back to front. I generally see something I want to photograph and then look for foreground, which sometimes can be a bit of a struggle. Great photos Henry.
Similar to europlatus. I'm a Canadian now living in Oz. The Canada toque strikes a chord with me. More importantly, the technique of starting with the background then finding foreground elements that work is a very practical tip. Thanks Henry, and never lose your enthusiasm - it's contagious.
The enthusiasm in such conditions is fantastic. I love watching these videos because they are so relatable because they are locations we can all enjoy. Thanks Henry.
I live over-looking the sea and I get some brilliant sunrise photos, never one the same. Been doing it for over 50 years and never tire of it. Great video.
Staying for that sunset really worked out. Can't ask for more than a sunset and a rainbow. Great shots. Like the change of perspective, working back-to-front.
12:16 "The sun sets, around about sunset". Sorry Henry but I'm going to need some proof of that!!! I love watching these videos, with his enthusiasm this man should be classed as an anti-depressant!!!
Henry, as always love the zeal of you on your trips. I yearn to get back out there myself. 2:44 I can relate completely!! :) Nice comps on a blustery day. Loved the comment about the sun going down often as it does. :) Stuff everywhere! Haha, spot on, so true.
Henry, just as so many commented on your enthusiasm for this beautiful seascape, I was so impressed, too, with your willingness to share it with us. Your appreciation for God's creation is inspiring! Then seeing the rainbow, I felt so strongly the Lord of Creation, God Himself, was blessing you that day, reminding us all of His first covenant with Noah to never judge the world with a flood again. Seeing the "s" shape leading to the sun, so perfect, was for me a clear sign of the Lord leading you to think, if you would be open, to wanting you to see His Son, Jesus Christ, who died for us sinners, if we would agree we need forgiveness and receive His sacrifice for our sins through His shed blood. For without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. I pray that You will want to know the Creator who has revealed to you in a very special way the beauty of His creation, so you would be curious to know HIM! God bless you, Henry. I hope to see you at the Rapture, 1 Thessalonians 4, when those who trust in Jesus, will escape the coming judgment we all sense is coming upon us in these last days.
The first pic worked, probably, more than you first realised Henry! The closest edge of the 'puddle' almost perfectly matches the line of the 'coast' just beyond it. Great symmetry! Keep it up dude 👍
A real belter this time Henry, it had it all. Rain coming down like stair rods, rainbows and oh what a sunset. Not forgetting a composition lesson. Thanks, great work!
Best tip I've heard in friggin ages to be fair! It really makes sense as you tend to have one focal point in the background in a location... and you just need to find the foreground that works... Tip top... can't wait to get out and give it a go!
I know exactly what you mean. When I'm out on one of those amazing shoots, when it's time to go back I just spend loads of time trying to search for lens caps and filters and before I start the car I have to double check the bag just to make sure everything's inside. Loved the video!
I watch lots of videos but I learnt exactly what I have been needing with my sunsets in this one. I had no idea about bracketing to compensate for the high dynamic range, thank you so much. And the composition hints, well I take lots of sunsets from home and the foreground isn't great and I always focus on the mountains in the background. I feel maybe I wasn't doing it so wrong after all. I do have a dirt track that curves away if I'm shooting to the north and that always works well, but west its a bit average and I don't mind it gets darkened out too much. Thanks so much Henry, will be trying the bracketing with bells on.
Thanks Henry, Enjoying your videos here in Hobart Tasmania.. Is a great inspiration to my attempts at landscape photography. All the best for 2021 & stay safe & well.
I love how we name our vehicles. Mine is the White Tardis. A Nissan NV200 mini-cargo van. Love it. Great video. Great points on coming at the composition from the other direction. Building the photo. I spent today photographing the several inches of snow and still snowing in our two stoplight town in South Texas. Kind of felt right to me though. Raised in snow country (a long time ago) and four years in Alaska (why wasn't I photographing then). I was running f8 and for long street shots mentally repeating, "Focus one third of the way in." LOL.
A great example Henry of how patience can pay dividends as the light at the end certainly was impressive. Nothing worse than being at home and seeing an epic sky when there is the chance to be out, as this showed, you have to be in it to win it......loved the rainbow image too👍
I always have the waterproof coat in the bag to double up with the Rab ~ unbeatable combo mate. Means you can stay out in a shower and often catch the very best light. Loving your enthusiasm Henry 😍
Hey Henry, Firstly well done for braving the rain. Absolutely beautiful images. There was infact 2 🌈's. I'm sure you will have spotted the second. Love your work. Every week you give us viewers new thought processes/ideas. I have said it before your passion for your job is awesome. I could watch your work for hours. Richie.
I really like your suggestion of looking for the background first!! Simplifies the options and makes it easier to focus on what to shoot! I'll give it a go! Thanks!!
Like your tip about starting with Background, Henry. And yes you remind me of my wife, misplaces just about everything once she gets keyed in on her subjects. Then we spend the next 20 minutes or so trying to find her lens cap, her glasses and her iPhone. Great thought. Background. First. Love it. Stay safe Friend. Rustyironmike
Just catching up on some of the older videos and this one got me thinking about how I work composition too... turns out I usually look for my background and then find foreground to work in to the image... never knew! Thanks for getting me thinking!
Some seriously beautiful images to be sure. I actually think your advice is more natural than looking at the foreground first. After all, we don't walk around with our heads pointing down all the time do we! Now for what you (and others) might think is a daft question. Have you ever thought of using an umbrella when photographing in the rain? I have seen it done and whilst it looks a bit odd it does work provided the wind's not too strong of course! And yes, your passion and enthusiasm shows no bounds...thankfully.
Fantastic video Henry, think it's one of my favourites of yours yet, beautiful photos and your enthusiasm just had me smiling all the way through, could feel your excitement :) can't wait for the 5k radius restrictions to lift here to get back to the coast for some shots to practice your composition tips.
Yes, these are the moments that are the icing on the cake. Beautiful photos! When the rainbow appeared I would have been stressing to take a photo as soon as possible, very nice how you managed to make the rainbow pop in your photo without a polarizer filter. When I go out for a sunset, I see people leave as soon as the sun has gone down, which is when the most beautiful colours appear. Great video and thanks for the useful tips on composition!
Energy as always Henry! Not sure why you getting the thumbs down its a great tip "work from the back". Keep up the good and positive videos! Come on its raining! Loving it!
And there's ya dinner! Beautiful shots and also good to know it is possible to get stunning sunset shots without a tripod. Great, simple composition tip and inspirational as always. Thanks Henry 😊🇦🇺
I should have waited for the end to comment. I love the carnage sessions when we get completely lost in the moment like that. This sort of rain always brings the possibility of a sunset like the one you had. The comment about not knowing where any of your lens caps are made me laugh.
Definitely understand that manic time when light is really happening at sunset, and even after. As you said, it’s often worth staying for that extra time just to see what happens. Raincoat, leave one in car ? Thanks for sharing again Henry.
Nice, just what I was after. I am guilty of starting with a foreground then trying to make it work with a background and just like you said getting overwhelmed with what foreground elements to use. Now if the weather works in my favour I'm looking forward to trying this out tomorrow. Cheers Henry.
Superb vlog Henry and what a result, superb. Visited Silverdale last year, thought it was beautiful, but it was midday and the tide was in, will go back for sunset on the beach👍
You are not just educational but very entertaining. Love your on the go approach and passion. Lack of tripod successes are encouraging. Things do go fast handheld though like the bracketing high dynamic range so a quick recap of how to ensure the shutter speed is covered in the brackets - after the moment has passed - would be appreciated by me.
Great video, Henry! Also, thank u for answering my previous question about focusing. I have just one more, though. When u focus 1/3 into the scene, do u use a single focus point, a zone or what?
Wonderful stuff Henery! I have found that, when photographing rainbows, the circular polariser really brings them out. Thanks for your wonderful insights!
Best bit of advice ever. “Don’t leave straight after the sun sets.” Caught many a beautiful sky 45min after sunset.
As a Brit now living in Canada, I like this channel. I get to see all the landscapes of where I grew up and hiked, and a Canadian toque sitting on your noggin. Cheers Henry!
Same, but Seattle!
"look at this, I'm just lucky here"........ A classic example of making you own luck Henry. All those who went home had no luck I guess! 🤣🤣👍 Great video again.
We’ve had a week of high 30s low 40s here in Australia so this video was like a balm to my soul.
Makes sense, back to front. I generally see something I want to photograph and then look for foreground, which sometimes can be a bit of a struggle. Great photos Henry.

Thanks for 24:30 min of positiveness !
As a new photographer, that is working on the creative side (doesn't come naturally) - this was class - absolutely class
I think Henry could get excited about photographing an empty crisp packet! lol
😂
It's that passion and enthusiasm that keeps me coming back to your channel Henry 👍
And he could get me excited about doing it, too!
Are those crisps his? These things are important! 😆

Such a simple tip, yet so powerful. This will change the way I look for compositions.

The cloud swirl in the first photo was really cool.
Quality as always Henry. Loved the sunset images. Great composition tips as a bonus to us humble disciples,!
Great video again Henry. Fantastic tips on composition, I learn something each time I watch you brave the English weather.👍
Thanks Henry, Enjoying your videos here in Hobart Tasmania.. Is a great inspiration to my attempts at landscape photography. All the best for 2021 & stay safe & well.
Thanks for taking us along with you on that magical evening Henry - really enjoyed that

Stunning light! Any time the weather looks pretty poor, there's always the potential for incredible light if the sun sneaks through!
Absolutely!
great video Henry your enthusiasm knows no bounds. love it
Admire your enthusiasm. Always a pleasure to see your vlogs and always inspiring.
Love your enthusiasm! Makes me want to grab the camera and go face the winter elements !
Great video, Henry....and love the Canada toque...thanks for rocking our national headgear!
Amazing will try your idea, thanks Henry
Chewers Henry. You're the only person I know who gets as excited about taking shots as I do!

You are talking to the camera and I'm like... that light take the shot henry take bloody the shot! 🤣
me too, i'm also saying look behind you...
Even I'm doing that when I'm watching my videos back haha!
Hey, great insight about simplifying the composing process by putting priority on the background! Most helpful!
You brighten up my Thursday’s & Sunday’s. Your excitement is infectious. Beautiful sunset pictures Henry.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It is cold EVERYWHERE. You inspired me to get to the Guadalupe Pass (West Texas) tomorrow evening for sunset and star photography.
Love how your enthusiasm shows through your videos!
Thank you so much!

Also can I ask what is the best os maps app to use to find points of interest like smaller coves and waterfalls
Thanks a lot! I use ViewRanger :)
Thank you :)
Thanks for the tip Henry. 👍. Defenetly never thought of background 1st, then work backwards. 👏
Thanks for sharing. Next time I'm out with the camera I'll look for the background first! Great tip 👍

Once again, great job! beautiful sunset. thxs for the tips :)
Like you, living in Lancashire, moody skies are a regular feature. The graduated filter in my LRC gets a workout every time!
Thx Henry, great video again and also inspiring to see you so excited again.
Brilliant Henry! Loved this one. Not sure which was more impressive ... the scenery, the light, the rainbow, or your enthusiasm! 🙂
Great work Henry thanks for braving the cold rain to share your beautiful spot enjoyed it again 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Henry, your enthusiasm is infectious. I cannot wait to get out of lockdown.
No need to wait. Go out. Been out every day for the least a couple hours. 6 hours on Saturday. Just go shoot.
Love these conditions! Henry could you make a tutorial on your post possessing workflow on your exposure bracketed shots?
Thanks Chris and cheers for the suggestion! Maybe one day but just prefer the outdoor videos for now
