If you cleaned out your PS4 and applied thermal paste and it still overheats you have to also remove the panel UNDER your motherboard. The heat sink may look fine from the front side where the power supply is but the other side is probably caked in dust. I thought that the heatsink can be cleaned from that side, but it cant. Thanks for this vid!!!!!! I watched plenty of others trying to pry the damn bottom open and it just didn't work. at 3:17 you showed exactly where to put the prying tool and it worked like a charm! No more loud fan for me!
Thank you so much for sharing this useful information. My son’s PS4 had been sounding really loud (that “jet plane” noise people talk about) and I wanted to make sure it wasn’t all dusty inside. Other videos dealt with the older PS4 models so I was totally lost in the procedure. Luckily I found your video so it made interior access a piece of cake. To my surprise, though, it was pretty clean inside. I blew it the fan and duct assemblies out with compressed air and made sure to clean up any other lint/dust bunnies laying around and was able to put it back together. I’m hoping it made a difference. Nevertheless, this wouldn’t have been possible with your thorough walkthrough. So thanks a bunch!
For anyone who is unable to remove the bottom and is wondering why it's requiring you more force than it did for the guy in the video it's because there are 2 hidden screws in the upper back. *YOU HAVE TO BREAK THE MOLD THE SCREWS ARE SCREWED INTO TO OPEN IT* there is no other option and I know this because once I applied crazy pressure by wedging the edges with 2 flat head screw drivers I plopped it open and discovered 2 hidden screws placed there to keep me from opening my PlayStation. Sony want to keep you from opening your PlayStation so bad that they are now hiding screws. The 2 screws are hidden behind those 2 ends in the back where 2 screws wore supposed to be on an older model, they are just hidden. you have to break part of the case in the back on the with 2 flat head to open it. Just repeating myself to be clear that's the only way it's coming open, if it feels impossible to open that's the reason.
This guy is not very thorough in his videos. There are too many steps such as this one that are overlooked. Our PS4 is now broken because when HE showed the power supply cable being removed from the motherboard it went really quickly and the angle was blocked by part of the console case. He said his came loose quickly because it had been removed before, that we would have to wiggle some. So we did. With pliers (as he did.) And the whole thing came off the motherboard and is now broken. DO NOT RELY ON THIS VIDEO TO DO ANYTHING UNLESS YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. WE ARE OUT OVER $300 BECAUSE OF IT! BEWARE!!!!
Some of my PS4 parts were broken since i wasn't really careful with him Once i turned it on it died instantly, turns out my motherboard was broken and i had to buy a new ps4 Thanks to you I was able to clean my new one
Good walk through overall. My only complaint is at 6:19 when you remove the power supply cable. I (with admittedly limited know how) grabbed the wrong part to pull the wires out and yanked the thing right off the motherboard. Looks like I'm buying my girlfriend a new PS4 haha.
@@diamond-a4759 the black wires are connected to a piece that plugs into the bigger tan piece. Don't pull on the big piece! Look for the seam where it's plugged in
I have the 500GB Black Ops 3 CUH-1215A and I am currently having problems with the optical drive. Whenever I put a game disc into the optical drive it takes the disc loads the game, but when I start playing a game the games lag like they'll skip, but these are brand new games. When I play games on that I've downloaded onto the hard drive there is no issue with gameplay this is how I figured out the problem is with the optical drive. Any ideas, hints, suggestions? Thanks like the video very informative.

@@il_craparo8937 This was from a long time ago when my PS4 just literally stopped working one day, I still have it but it's not a Pro, it's just a slim I think 🤔 although it seems to have a lot more HD space than usual, it has 2TB and I bought it brand new from Argos just before Christmas the year before I posted this, I was still never able to get inside the thing to find out what may have been the issue so I ended up getting a PS4 Pro 🤣 Still running nice and strong even though I bought it 2nd hand 😊
@W W I know, that's what they do with printer ink cartridges 🤣 But no, I'm pretty sure it was just how much I used it, constantly almost 24/7/365 and I rarely turned it off properly either, always just put it into sleep mode when I needed a bit of sleep myself so I could get straight back to it the second I woke up 🙄 😁

Thanx Steve. The tip about so many kinds of screws is excellent and wise advice. Taking a digital photo of each stage of the work is also excellent advice. Just being a former NASA engineer did not build my courage up enough to dive in, but your video did. My mission today is to fix a broken power switch/button. Gotta dig deep to get at that little doggie. Memo to self: buy a power screw driver handle.
Thanks for making this video. I thought it might be time to clean the inside of my poor PS4. I wanted to see how to get it apart without damaging it. I watched a few other vids, but some were on an older model with 4 screws on the back, & others were the right model, but the techniques used were a bit brutal. I ended getting mine apart by using a plastic bread bag tie, (flat thin plastic) & a small flat screwdriver, & my fingernails as my "disassembly tools". Once I cleaned away the surface dust, I saw that it was going to be a fair job to get the fan cover off to give it a proper clean. That's when I watched this video, to see if I was going to need thermal paste to get to the fan. Unfortunately, it looks like I do. Thanks to your video, I've decided to just clean it as best as I can without taking the motherboard out. Given the amount of dust that I got out of it, it will be much better than doing nothing. Next time, I'll buy some thermal paste, & do a more thorough job.
Finally a video that really works and explains what to do well. Thank you you very much indeed my friend, you have saved my day, now it’s time to clean the fan and hopefully lower the sound of the PS4 fan for my son. Again thank you very much my friend, you have my sub👌

Same now I feel like a dummy lol. Recked my own ps4 power just now and way to fix this before I buy a new ps4???
same here. tried to loosen the whole thing instead of the wires and ripped it off.
Same great
Same 😭😭😭😭
Same
There were so many different types of models and I couldn't find this one. This really helped. I just had to get inside to clean the fan. Thank you guys again.
No problem. Glad it helped!
I still cant get the bottom off
Slide a spudger in the rear sides of the console while it is upside down
How do you move the heat sink
I had the same problem...then i used a butter knife to slide along the edge like in the video.
MRCH0SEN1 thx the knife works
@@MRCH0SEN1 thank you, i was trying to open this part like for 30 minutes and used butter knife instantly opened, i tryied to use other stuff before that
Thanks man! I got a Destiny Limited Edition for christmas and i was stoked to revive this thing. While taking it apart it was more than obvious that it was from a smokers home, but thanks to your help once again i was able to fully disassemble it and clean it up like new!
5:44 That's the moment I've broken my PS4 by pulling the connectors the wrong way.
Just did it
Okay I feel less like an ape now me too lol
is it possible to do it without pliers?
Thanks for this vid!!!!!! I watched plenty of others trying to pry the damn bottom open and it just didn't work. at 3:17 you showed exactly where to put the prying tool and it worked like a charm! No more loud fan for me!
Glad this helped!
PS4 is over 5 years old purrs like a kitten now thanks man!!!
Power supply connector broke off the board when I "wiggled it gently back and forth". Not a risk-free operation.
Same thing happened to me and I soon discovered that I would have to replace whole motherboard
Same. He could have spent a little more time on this part and given some warnings. Mine is ruined too. Thanks dude....
@@mboser04 same for me his video has now ruined 4 PS4's

This helped me out a bunch. I didnt go as far. Just far enough to clean my fan and heatsink. Thank you for uploading
Thank you that had happened to me until I saw this thank you so much
I dont really understand where the hidden screws are. Help?
I can't find it
This guy is not very thorough in his videos. BEWARE!!!!
wow u succ
Some of my PS4 parts were broken since i wasn't really careful with him
Once i turned it on it died instantly, turns out my motherboard was broken and i had to buy a new ps4
Thanks to you I was able to clean my new one
Cheers , great video. Managed to pull one of the wires out when trying to remove the PSU molex, 10/10.
Thank you for this tutorial video, my ps4 finally landed, all for less than $20.00 for the thermal paste and the torx bit set!!!
11:43 saved my butt, thanks
HELL YES!!!!! ME TOO! KKKKKKKK
i lost my piece is that bad???
LunaCosmos90 I did too I’m womdering the same thing 😭😭😭

Wow! Your videos have come a long way. Very different style from your new videos.
Good walk through overall. My only complaint is at 6:19 when you remove the power supply cable. I (with admittedly limited know how) grabbed the wrong part to pull the wires out and yanked the thing right off the motherboard.
Looks like I'm buying my girlfriend a new PS4 haha.
I did the same thing bro. So upset!
Miranda Martin mines stuck on and I don’t know what to do cuz I don’t wanna rip it
@@diamond-a4759 the black wires are connected to a piece that plugs into the bigger tan piece. Don't pull on the big piece! Look for the seam where it's plugged in
Miranda Martin Ik that part but I still can’t get it out cuz it’s too tight
@@diamond-a4759 maybe use 2 pairs of needle nose. One to hold the bigger tan part down and the other to pull up on the other piece
Thank you, careful disassebling is key to the console working again when it's reassembled. Your guidance is much appreciated.
This helped. Mine has the 1TB drive, but everything else was the same. Thanks for sharing.
Glad this helped!
I bought a ps4 from my sister. She had it for a few years but didnt take care of it. I am gonna have fun cleaning it out using your video as a guide.
Best teardown easy and perfect
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Hmmm...maybe a laser problem. It's tough to know without having it here to test.
Ok thanks.
Im gonna send it to Sony and see what they do. My console is brand new I just purchased it in March so it's still under warranty just wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem with this model.
Thank you good sir! Can’t believe I had to do pretty much a full teardown just to change the little internal battery. Sega had it right with their Saturn in ‘95: just pop open a little cover on the back of the console, swap the battery, done!
Ok guys I accidentally used the wrong screw driver I was using a t8 screwdriver you need to use a TR8 (torx security screw driver ) Don't strip your screws like I did
Thank you for giving no specification on how to remove the power cord or any close up. My ps4 is now gone :)
Same literally just happened to me
Thank you for thinking that the new also needs fan cleaning, all videos are for older, easier version.... And even if u didn't.😁👍🏻
Just wanted to say thanks for helping me replace the fan inside of my ps4. You probably saved me sooo much money in repairs, if I had to send my console in to Sony. Now I don't have to deal with that terrible grinding sound anymore.
You're entirely welcome! Glad to have saved you some money!
Well I just broke my ps4 trying to take the battery out, so that's nice.
bro i’m doing it rn
i think i broke it
Same happened to me
Aaaaand same. My fan was broken anyways, figured I'd give fixing it a shot before I buy a new one or wait for ps5s to not be like finding the holy grail
Thank you very much, my ps4 used to sound like a jet when i booted up games but now it's much more quiet
Yeah bro, broke mine when disconnecting one of the cables lmfaoo
Haven’t opened up my ps4 for 3 years, this was very helpful great vid as always 👌👍
After taking off the two long Phillip screws that hold the metal piece ontop of the power supply, those 3 T8 screws are literally machined too shallow on mine. My T8 worked on previous screws to get to this point & got stuck here. Like I said they’re literally just shallow compared to the others. Help? Very informative video btw the best out! Thank you
Same here! Did you figure it out?
Wyatt Blatt what are the screws you used for the 2 in the back
davidg7517 just ended up getting a different set of T8 screwdrivers that had deeper slots on the screw head itself. Now I’m at the part of pulling the battery out an the side with the connectors doesn’t wanna come up🥴
Thanks you, got it down to the board. Now I need to replace the ic chip and I'm more imitated than before I started. Everthing is sooo small! All the videos I've seen must be magnified!
That's a tough job with no magnification.
5:50 didn't really explain what to pull out. Besides saying just gonna pull this up. Pulled the whole piece off. 🤨
I just did the same thing. Did you solder it back on or what happened?
Literally did the same damn thing. And soldering is the only option available. Gonna get it done tomorrow and hope for the best.
Same,
Mohamed Yosof wait you tried to take
off the power supply or tried to take off the wires?
@@glaiveking2530 Did it work??
Very useful. My friend let someone borrow his PlayStation and they returned it roach infested. We used this video to disassemble the PS4 and help rerenovate the roaches to the afterlife. Both parties are very thankful for your help.
Glad this helped!
I lost the little metal piece so what exactly is it for and will my PlayStation start without it
Also thanks I found you video very helpful in the long run
Love this guy had a blast doing it
at 11:40. how super important is that threaded metal piece for the long screw that holds down the psu? is it actually a important ground?
No, it's to help keep the power supply in better. It's fine without it but better with it.
Appreciate all your videos man! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Truly cant thank you anymore! Cleaned my ps4 and found a small silverfish that was fried in there as well. But overall made my ps4 a lot more quieter n cleaner 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
4:57 what this metal glossy thing in the power suply does?
z10111213 do you Evan English bro
z10111213 its related to thermal insulation
Thanks man my ps4 is running like an angel
just 1 question are all those ps4's yours 😰😰
Love ya ❤❤ got a used PS4 that wasn't working so I popped it open and it was in shambles due to the previous owner's attempts to repair it before me, needed a video to show me where everything was supposed to go, now I've got a fully functioning PS4 and can now play the PS4 exclusives!!
Sooo I think I am in trouble
I took off every piece like in the video. Now I don't know where the screws hole

Ty man...u saved me a good chunk of cash ...I swapped my fan out in about 3 hrs start to finish...its no easy task for someone like me who's never done it and it's not as easy as ur video depicts but it definitely helped me dismantle my ps4 ..and for 20 bucks off Amazon, I was able to fix it ...thanks again ..
My PS4 resembles NONE of the models on TH-cam wtf is going on?! 😲
Docta Osiris maybe it’s a slim ora pro?
@@il_craparo8937 This was from a long time ago when my PS4 just literally stopped working one day, I still have it but it's not a Pro, it's just a slim I think 🤔 although it seems to have a lot more HD space than usual, it has 2TB and I bought it brand new from Argos just before Christmas the year before I posted this, I was still never able to get inside the thing to find out what may have been the issue so I ended up getting a PS4 Pro 🤣
Still running nice and strong even though I bought it 2nd hand 😊
@W W I know, that's what they do with printer ink cartridges 🤣
But no, I'm pretty sure it was just how much I used it, constantly almost 24/7/365 and I rarely turned it off properly either, always just put it into sleep mode when I needed a bit of sleep myself so I could get straight back to it the second I woke up 🙄
😁
Good teardown video, really helpful. A bit more of a pain than the older models especially the bottom case, but now I know how I'll crack em open like eggs!
I cant get the second panel off the front corner seems to be stuck. Help me
Jugi_03 I shoved a flathead in there because i really couldnt get it off with my hands

Thanks for the video man it took meawile to figure out what original version of ps4 I had! And I got my consol up and running again, seriously thanks
I messed it up and broke it🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
The part where he says usually this doesnt come off so easy? That made me think i needed to use force as well 😢
If you are having trouble taking out the bottom part, stick a butter knife kind of in the start of the ventilation thingy on the left or the right, just push down and it should pop off. It worked for me!
You see my PS4 has roaches, and idk how they got there and I'm pisses about it, sadly u can't take off the bottom of the PS4 would. Are it a lot easier to run them out of the ps4
You can remove the bottom cover. If you want to remove them all you'll have to disassemble the entire console.
You got cockroaches? Bro clean your house before you worry about your ps4
I can't even get the top off2:21
got it. Had to use a screwdriver to wedge and pop it open.
I can't get the top open either!!
Thanks again for this video. I keep returning to your video for the screws location. Thanks again. 👍👍
thanks, just used this video to clean and replace thermal paste in my 1214a 5 years later, i just went back on the video to reassemble it
Thank you for this, the jet finally lands
Thanks dude, now I know how to upgrade my hard drive! So glad that it looks easy to do.
Upgrading the hard drive is a piece of cake on these!
I'm glad it is.
Thank you so much. I was worried that the fan removal wasn't comprehensive enough since that's what I needed to replace but it worked out great.
Thank you so much for posting this. The explanation was clear.

Finally a video that really works and explains what to do well. Thank you you very much indeed my friend, you have saved my day, now it’s time to clean the fan and hopefully lower the sound of the PS4 fan for my son. Again thank you very much my friend, you have my sub👌
