Pirate Looks at Forty is one of my favorite JB songs. “He Went To Paris” is one of his best songs. Great storytelling. Come Monday is also pretty great.
@@SaeedReacts. Playing these songs when he is old and had "parrot heads" and "fins" isn't that great. More silly. He went to Paris and Come Monday when young are actually beautiful songs.
So sad to hear of Jimmy Buffett's recent passing in 2023. He was a great singer-songwriter, musician & actor. His songs had such a laid back island feel to them. I had a couple of his albums. He had a lot of hits especially in the 70's-80's such as "Son Of Son Of A Sailor", "Come Monday", "Fins", “He Went To Paris”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, “One Particular Harbor”, “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, “Volcano”, “Boat Drinks”, “Pencil Thin Mustache” etc.
The way my heart jumped out of my chest when I saw you reacted to Jimmy Buffett! Wow! Oh I soooo hope you do more of Jimmy Buffet. He's an amazing story teller. He has written several novels and also wrote several children's books with his daughter. I absolutely adore him! A little piece of my heart died when Jimmy Buffett took his last breath. What a treasure! If you want to listen to a song that's nothing but fun, good vibes and silliness you must check out Cheeseburger In Paradise. Jimmy spent most of his life in Florida and was a self proclaimed beach bum. There will never be anyone quite like Jimmy.
You found a good one Saeed .. his fans are called Parrot Heads .. 🦜🦜🦜🦜 .. So , I've been sober for 35 years , but this song , yeah this song .... everybody knows this song. Many many many days this is the first song I play on my keyboard as a warm up song for my vocals ... even though it has been decades without a drink. lol 🦜🦜🦜🦜
Jimmy Buffett is one of a kind. Songwriter, performer, and astute businessman who turned his laid back, endless party vibe songs into a billion dollar business that included restaurants, hotels, alcohol, etc. Looking forward to hearing more of his stuff. During the pandemic, he recorded some of his older songs at home just on an acoustic guitar with explanations of what inspired them. Some of those might be interesting for you. I think it was put together by his daughter.
My favorite concerts to go to.The parties in the parking lots of his concerts defined tailgating parties.Fans of J.B. are called Parrottheads. He's a great story teller just as you like.I love The Captain and the kid.
Saeed, just look at the crowd, they are having the time of their lives enjoying great music with such a great vibe...that's what music is all about. Jimmy was a master at everything he did and he will be sadly missed.
R.I.P. to a legend. His followers, and there were so so many, were called ParrotHeads. The original version of Margaritaville is one you should hear, as others have said. Margaritaville was 1 of his biggest hits. Thank you, Saeed for reacting to him, and thank you, Bob for requesting the this.❤😊
Yacht Rock! He changed the "Margaritaville" lyrics up a bit for the live shows because everyone knew the lines. "Watching the sun bake all you tourists covered with oil" was original; he changed "tourists" to" Parrotheads", which is the name given to Buffet fans. "It's a real beauty, a Mexican cutie" is the original tattoo reference. He didn't break his leg. "I blew out my flip flop" meant his sandal broke, then he stepped, bare-footed, on a pop top and bruised his heel so "cruised on back home". Back in the day, the tabs on beer/soda cans weren't attached so after being "popped off" the cans, the ground was then littered with the sharp edged tabs. Thanks.
Well played Brother 👍 I never once took a drink for the taste, it was the effect I was chasing 😉 Not only was Jimmy a musical genius...he parlayed this song into a business empire! Spread the love 🐶😎🇺🇸
There are 29 margaritaville resorts in the US and mexico and 23 margaritaville restaurants in the US, I think Canada . There is one in Sydney Australiaas well (ironically its mainly for the US tourists ) . All based on the song
Wrigley Field is the Home of The Chicago Cubs, of Major League Baseball. The CUBS finally won a World Series Championship a few years ago, for the first time since...who knows. They were America's lovable losers. Wrigley Field also hosted the Chicago Bears of The National Football League for many years. It is named for the owner of Wrigley's Chewing Gum, (Doublemint, Spearmint, etc.)a BIG International business from Chicago.
Thanks Saeed for this one. This is the baseball park where the Chicago Cubs play. Ive been to his show a couple of times. One in Florida and once in Massachusetts and when i couldn't get tickets ive just gone to party in the parking lot of his show. The tailgating parties that go on at his shows are legendary. There are just as many people partying out side during the show as there is in the actual show. They set up bars and Bbqs at their cars. Ive seen people with small pools in pickup trucks and petrol powered blenders to make margaritas. Ive even seen a swing set once that hat a canoe as the swing. They try to one up each other . The last one i went to we showed up at noon and the parkinglot was full but the show didnt start til 6pm. It was so much fun Aa far as songs go , Cheeseburger in paradise, come monday, why dont we get drunk (and screw) ,and Fins are probably the most popular. But there are so many greats.
I was lucky enough to have a beer with Jimmy after a show in '76. He was the nicest guy. Then he got on stage with the local band and sang until way after closing. One of my great memories. He wrote the two best love songs, from different ends of the spectrum. Try "Come Monday" and "Why Don't We Get Drunk (And ...).
When people inevitably asked, "What genre is Jimmy Buffet?", I always answer YES. Jimmy is his own genre, his music is more vibe than anything else and nobody has better vibe than JB. Must hear songs of his. "He went to Paris", "Cheeseburger In Paradise", "Come Monday", "Fins", "Son Of A Son Of A Sailor" and "Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes". After that you will be a Parrot Head too.
Us Jimmy Buffett fans are called Parrot Heads because many of his songs relate to life on the ocean and beach. Check out "Cheese Burger in Paradise", "Come Monday", and "Son of a Son of a Sailor".
A Pirate Looks at 40 has the same feel as He Went to Paris, African Friend, If the Phone Doesn't Ring, Come Monday, Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes, I heard I was in Town, and probably a few others that aren't coming to my mind.
RIP Jimmy. I've probably been to 40 or more Jimmy Buffet concerts dating back to about 1975. One time I dragged my Jewish girlfriend from Brooklyn to a Jimmy Buffet concert, very unwillingly on her part. After a half hour into the concert, she learns over to me and yells in my ear, "This is fun!" Every Jimmy Buffet concert is a party.
Jimmy lived his dream, and when he sailed off into that final sunset, he left us brokenhearted. His fans are known as Parrotheads, and he almost always performed barefoot. They only added "salt salt salt" for the live shows. Check out the studio version. Fins up Jimmy! My fave would have to be "Come Monday"
Managed to see Jimmy Buffett (RIP) twice over the years. Once at his "Margaritaville" Restaurant on Duval Street in Key West, New Years Eve 1989-90, he was solo and just hanging out. Then I saw him with the full Coral Reefer Band in Camden, New Jersey, with about 15-20,000 other like minded folks. Been listening to Jimmy since I was 20, now I'm 66. BTW Jimmy made a brief appearance in the cult-movie classic "Repo Man".
A Pirate Looks At Forty was written by Jimmy for a bartender in Key West named Phil Clark. Phil was turning 40 and was still trying to find his way in life. Phil did smuggle drugs from Cuba for a while as did many inhabitants of Key West in the early 1970's. Classic Jimmy Buffett lyrics and song and considered his best by many including Bob Dylan. Great song choice and great analysis.
There's a clip of Jimmy on a Jerry Jeff Walker TV show where they discuss Phil Clark. It is funny and poignant at the same time. I can't remember the name of Jerry Jeff's TV show; but Jerry Jeff is another "unknown" legend. Jerry Jeff and Jimmy were friends, although Jerry Jeff never got the acclaim of Jimmy (they even wrote songs together). Unfortunately, Jerry Jeff has also passed.
Cowboy in the Jungle is my favorite song by him. Here in Cincinnati, Buffett is practically a God, and I've literally been to close to 20 shows, includingthe one where the term "Parrothead" was coined. He used to do 5 nights a year here, and the shows would sell out in minutes. The cool part of his shows were that everyone got along and it was all age groups. My parents even went to a few concerts with us and we had a great time. Definitely miss Jimmy.
If you liked Pirate Looks at 40, you should check out One Particular Harbor. You would like it a lot. And just that one, he has SO MANY good ones. The second one he did here, do I dare say it's probably the most well known song ever?
Come Monday & Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes - different from each other, but equally good (and of course, only two of so many songs). In an interview, he said that he wrote the first one with his future wife in mind. He led a full and interesting life. Worth checking out when you have a few minutes to spare.
Jimmy got mostly sober. He left a 1 billion estate. He was one of the richest musicians in the world. I don't think he ever had a hit, but he had millions of fans and hundreds of great songs.
I saw him many, many moons ago (70's) in Charleston SC. He made me cry when he did the song "Biloxi". He is another great storyteller. BTW, kudos to you for giving up the drink. Nothing good comes from that evil, life-wrecking substance.
I would say, only the Grateful Dead could equal the Live Concert following of Jimmy Buffett. He had a cult following and yes, he threw a big party at his shows.
Pirate Looks at Forty is one of my favorite JB songs. “He Went To Paris” is one of his best songs. Great storytelling. Come Monday is also pretty great.
Come monday is definitely one of my favorites!
The Captain and the Kid is another one of many JB very good songs.
Thanks for the recommendations. Definitely will check out more of his music.
@@SaeedReacts. He went to Paris. It's so great. Jimmy Buffet died about 6 months ago.

Jimmy's lyrics are so consistently good. He almost created his own genre, and he crushed it.
Jimmy Buffett was far more than a brilliant singer/songwriter. He was the architect of a better way of life!
Love that!
Saeed, just look at the crowd, they are having the time of their lives enjoying great music with such a great vibe...that's what music is all about. Jimmy was a master at everything he did and he will be sadly missed.
The energy was amazing!
I still feel Jimmy’s passing like it was yesterday. Parrothead forever-fins up!

Nothing can take me to the Caribbean, any time , any where, like Jimmy can. RIP
🌸 I love love the steel drums
Wrigley Field is the home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team.
Thanks for letting me know!
Straight up, one of the best concerts I ever saw was a Jimmy Buffett show, and I saw some amazing shows thru the years. He was awesome.
That is the Cubs Baseball Stadium. A fantastic place for either a baseball game or a concert. He packed the house.
Thanks for letting me know, Janice!

Buffet was a great performer, but also a shrewd businessman. He was a billionaire by the time he died.

Jimmy also was a writer.
I have his book called A pirate looks at 50.
Ooh! Will look it up on Goodreads.
I loved "Where is Joe Merchant?"
Love Jimmy RIP. Should definitely listen to “Son of a Sailor”
Thanks for the recommendation! Will add it to my list
"A Pirate Looks At 40", "Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season", and "The Weather Is Here, I Wish You Were Beautiful" explain it all
Definitely want to check out more.
For a little over a year now he’s been Off To See The Lizard.
That field has a capacity of about 41,000, not including the infield. Can you imagine selling out to that crowd? Jimmy Buffet is a legend!
A Pirate Looks at 40 has the same feel as He Went to Paris, African Friend, If the Phone Doesn't Ring, Come Monday, Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes, I heard I was in Town, and probably a few others that aren't coming to my mind.
Escape ( The Pina Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes is a great story song.
No it’s not!!!

There is actually a whole string of "Margaritaville" restaurants all over the US, and maybe even some international one's. Who knows?
Pause guy great reaction, I turned 60 a few months ago, this one resonates for me, it’s been a ride so far, but what a ride it’s been 😎
Happy belated birthday! A wild ride indeed!
These type of songs definitely get more power the older one gets.

My salty troubadour ❤ 🔥
He was a god in Key West Florida. Never sold a lot of albums but died a Billionaire. Parrot Heads were like the Dead heads.
if you want a great story in a song, check out Jimmy's He Went To Paris. Beautiful.
Thanks for the recommendation. Will add it to my list.
I tell anybody if you never got to see Buffett you missed out. It’s a great party

Just show you don't need top 40 radio to be a success, which Jimmy certainly was.
Wow! Thanks for sharing that.
This man is a helluva songwriter proven by the fact that he wrote a hit song about a cheeseburger.
Now thats interesting 😄
I saw him many, many moons ago (70's) in Charleston SC. He made me cry when he did the song "Biloxi". He is another great storyteller.
