Awesome video! Been wanting to test this myself but was unsure what to do for attenuation. Gunna look for that inline attenuator now and try testing my radios. The Baofeng video was great too! Love the fact you're actually testing them and drawing conclusions from empirical evidence vs just vomiting prejudiced claims as I've seen so many others do. Keep up the awesome work Ape!
Thanks for checking it out Tom. When you get into testing "stuff" attenuators are your friend, I have a nice little pile of them sitting right here to keep me company.
@@TheSmokinApe Thats for the internal attenuation block. (Although one can control the sig-gen mode from -6 to -76 dBm) The external gain/ attenuation can be compensated by putting in say 20 dB for an external 20 dB amp, or -40dB for an external 40 dB attenuator. It changes the scaling, rather than any attenuation
Mine’s about a week old, and the battery life is a serious disappointment. Edit to add punctuation and say I do like it. I’m hoping YSF is a less-fussy way to go digital.
@@TheSmokinApe I did what any self-respecting grumpy ham would do and gave Yaesu more money for a spare batt and a quick charger. Kinda maybe seems like the folks who said the batteries stretch a little with a couple of charge cycles on them were right, too. Also I might be laying off the display by playing with it a little less than I did on day one.
Thanks, another great video. -3 dbm is 0.00050 mW which when you allow for the 40db attenuator is 5 watts. Spot on :)
Hey Michael, thanks for checking this one out 👍

I'm really enjoying this series of videos!
I gotta get one of those attenuators
Thanks for the video!
Glad to hear it No Code, these are fun videos to make 👍
Thanks for the video!
Anytime!
Nice test. Thanks
Thanks William 👍
Fantastic radio agreed mate
Thanks Chris 👍
Much cleaner than the Baofeng. Thanks, For sharing Ape.
It’s good s a bit cleaner, lol. Thanks for checking it out Adam 👍
If one sets the external gain to 40 dB in the level menu, it compensates for the 40 dB attenuator
Hey Kevin, I think the max attenuation for the TinySA is 31dB

Thanks for the info Kevin! It's helpful.
Ape _ Terrific video. TU! Of all the different models of the Nano VNA that are available, do you have a preference? Tnx. A Patron.
Howdy N3JW, my go to VNA is the H4. It's got a larger screen and is plenty good for Ham Radio work.
Advice from one who is experienced and knowledgeable (Th' Smokin Ape) is always valuable and appreciated!!!
@@n3jw34 anytime, thanks for the support 👍

You’re right about the battery, that is a PITA

There is a reason for the price difference lol!
Right!
lol now you need to test every HT out there.... you probably own one of each. :-D
Lol, I don’t see that happening… yet.
These tests would be more accurate if you used ladder line.😂
I need to get me some ladder line 🧐
If I had the equipment and ran the tests, my results would be identical. I have the FT-70D. It's the other stuff I don't have.......
I like the 70D, fantastic radio.
Amazing radio if they would just fix the battery life
I do wish it was a better battery.
Great video Ape 🦧 and this is my HT of choice👍73 KV5P
Thanks Mike, I do like the 70 👍
