In this video, I'll show you how I built an enclosure for my 3d printer, using the limited tools and space I have in my apartment. For Printing ABS don´t forget to cover the venting hole. The emitted ABS-fumes are known to cause cancer. Adding a HEPA-filter to the outlet will also do
I use abs+/asa. And this should also do the trick-
Thanks for sharing the fact that they're actually carcinogenic, most people don't even want to acknowledge the danger of plastic fumes.
How about making the fumes vent outdoors?
it really aint that serious. ive been doing abs since it first came out. keep believing everything the internet tells you.

Nice! Thanks for the video and inspiration. A couple tips for others.
1. You could also use 3m Super 77 spray adhesive to attach the foam in a less permanent manner in case you wanted to be able to reuse it for other purposes in the future.
2. A razor knife does work fine to slice the foam for little projects like this. But if you have an electric carving knife in your household that works amazingly well too.

The egg foam is flammable?
yes, this is why you dont take advice from youtubers
Yeah the 'proper' way would probably something like rockwool.
They have fire retardant solutions and are much better and blocking out lower frequencies.
These foam panels are only really going to work for high mid to high frequencies.
It's not that much more expensive but superior in anyway.
Hence why you also almost never see foam in professional recording studios unless used for it's proper intention.
But even then, it wont soundproof it full. You'll need mass for that like thick wood or steel enclosure.

Amazon sells fireproofing spray for about $15.
If I were to keep the bottom part of my enclosure open so that the hot air can escape from there, would that solve the issue of the electronics thing?
Nice overview and I really enjoyed your finished product! Planning to do something similar for my Ender 3 and currently gathering ideas. However, I would've taken some before/after measurements to see how effective the foam and enclosure altogether are at cutting down the noise. I don't know if you've seen this by now but if you're comfortable with the sound level of a drill in an apartment, instead of using a box cutter, you could also use a cutting wheel similar to those used for dremels. Or better yet use one on a dremel. But to be fair a box cutter is obviously much quieter than a drill

What temperature is maintained in the camera? For PLA, is 40 degrees ok? What temperature does PETG print at?

I love it! Very professional looking. What did you use for the stepper motor drivers and fans to help with silencing?
Check out my video on all the upgrades I made to my Anycubic i3 Mega, I show all the steps I took to improve this thing. In short, I used TMC2209 drivers and a 60mm Noctual Premium silent fan on the PSU. Thanks for the comment!
to make the steppers quieter, you could go even easier, and probably less money as well. Just look on your mainboard and check the stepper drivers, and then you just have to enable the new drivers in the firmware. Probably go with a 2209 as its a little more price/performance than a 2208, and has the basic features.
But what's the internal temp?
Any good alternatives to the IKEA lack tables? There's no Ikea on the state that I am in and Ikea isn't shipping the tables

Funny story, now I just need one for the top. I bought a used end table with a glass insert which I plan on using for the base.
I plan on printing teaching Tech’s electronic box for the Ender 5 and have it stick through where the glass would be so the electronics can get fresh cool air. I’m still trying to figure out on how I want to build the enclosure.
I like his design because all electronics and stepper motors are outside of the enclosure while all the heating units are located inside of the enclosure.
I may have to see if homedepot sells the end tables separately if I go with your idea.

Hey thanks for the comment! Initially, I powered if by splitting off an extra 12v output from my Anycubic i3 Mega's power supply, but later I added an OctoScreen display which included a 12v output for the Fan as well as LEDs, which I could control with switches. Hi, a tip. the acoustic foam doesn't work for isolation. as the name says it's a foam for better acoustic. There is specific isolation foam that is cheaper than the acoustics foams. Regards

What were the length of the screws for the side wood panels?
Thanks for the comment! It's hard to say cause it was so long ago, but I would guess 3/4" to 1" wood screws. I would think that would be enough to hold it.

this does not make the power supply over heat being enclosed and not have fresh cool air? i want one for my Ender 3 V2 but i am afraid of that
Thanks for the comment! I have since removed the power supply from inside the printer and mounted it on the outside of my enclosure. I was nervous about the exact same thing, I'd heard from many different sources that they PSU's are very sensitive to heat. Check out my Anycubic i3 Mega upgrade video, I cover how I removed the PSU!

I took my power supply out of my old one. The wires were long enough to still reach it.
@@ModernHobbyist just got done making my new enclosure and I mounted my power supply on the bottom. I will have to make a TH-cam video so show how I did it. Plug sits nice and flush on the bag of the enclosure.
What is the cost for the exhaust fan?

What about for cooling the power supply?
Hey thanks for the comment! You're absolutely right, having the power supply inside an enclosure can quickly degrade it since it is incredibly sensitive to heat. Check out my video on upgrades I made to my Anycubic: th-cam.com/video/PWHl8KnOmuk/w-d-xo.html. In this video I pulled the power supply out and wired it to the printer from outside the enclosure.

Add some sexy professional grade vinyl. Some have the craziest properties like self healing, some can change colors to simulate the skin of octopus and squid, there are videos of supercars looking like they just arrived from the future, likes like they skinned LCD screens but it's just clever light manipulation. Realistic looking materials like metals, marble, matte colors, pretty much anything, costume designs with 3M adhesives it's like magic.
There is no link for the printfiles for feet. I want to make it but can't find the files

Does the ender 5 fit in this?
Hey, thanks for the comment! I haven't tried fitting anything other than my Anycubic in here, but you could certainly print taller extensions for the legs of the Lack table if need be.

Ender 5 should fit better than the Ender 3 since the 5 plate only goes vertical. The Spool arm and the LCD panel will need to be moved. Still a super tight fit for the foam in this video. Found this on reddit images.app.goo.gl/32QtZ6MykBo2kZ5B8
I just ordered a custom one from 80/20
s point button head screws are what you want also to avoid fire risk you could build walls out of Vila board or 13mm wr plasterboard both are fire retardant.

Exhaust but no intake?
You need to look at your sound recording levels? I had to turn up the Volume 6 times higher to hear you! and no I not deaf. I have a big printer. a Tronxy X5SA Core XY 2020 upgraded version. it is built using a big cube design. around 24 inches by 28 inches by 24 square. I wished to have it in a a enclosure, for heat control for the damn fiddly ABS and PETG and even TPU. Now people will say no problems the printer is a metal cube just build the sides, top, back and door front onto the frame sections! But in the UK, prices of wood, sheets of hardboard are pricey and as for you buying Acrylic for the door, well, it is super pricey here for a small amount of it. Plus I wish the enclosure to be fire proof as the printer is in a spare room full of boxes of stuff which could easy burn. No other place available sadly! So looks like the enclosure be a bit hard to do for my printer?
As alwase you NED A VENT ITS A MUST plastic will start to melt, warp, your motherboard will get destroyed and I was using this. Just make sure to put the power supply outside or it will bbe destroyed. Don't do this.

16-foot ceilings?!?
this is cheap if you are in america. in the UK the tables are £20 each. looking about £20 for the acrylic, £10 for hardboard each, £5 for hinges, Acoustic foam £25, about £105 without the legs extensions and handles xD love the design but bit expensive here in uk.
Thanks for your comment! You should be able to get the Lack tables from IKEA’s website for £6. I’m not sure on prices for the rest of the materials, but that should cut down on the overall build cost. Cheers!

Then don't use acrylic. I used real glass. costs 1/4 the price of acrylic.
I'm cracking up when I see people put ACOUSTIC foam in enclose with the intention to dampen noise. Acoustic foam does not have ANY sound-dampening features - do your research. What you want for sound isolation is Rockwool

As for it's 'acoustic' properties, I'd recommend looking up the definition of acoustic foam yourself: Acoustic foam is an open celled foam used for acoustic treatment. It attenuates air born sound waves, reducing their amplitude, for the purposes of noise reduction or noise control. The energy is dissipated as heat.

I think I'm pretty qualified to give an opinion on the subject.
Do your research again. This acoustic foam panels are used to control the frequency response (standing waves, reverb) and have miniscule to zero effect on general sound volume.
It's super easy to just Google it. Just type "does acoustic foam isolate sound" .

With all the comments concerning the safety of this enclosure, please take the video down and redo it with serious safety instructions.
Your enclosure setting as shown can lead to problems like destroying parts of the printer through heat or causing fires or speed fires up, if accuring.
It's on your responsibility to fix this.
It's really not. It's an instructional video on how to build an enclosure, for bugger all money, for a table. That's what it is. He explains the dangers, quite clearly. I think anything ever really comes with a 'do at your own risk' label.
