    Thanks for visiting our beautiful state. You missed the worst of our wildfires, which are quite a bit north of Pagosa, near Fort Collins and Estes Park. The snow we had a week and a half ago really slowed them down. The only chance I've had to fly the 900 is in X-Plane, and I love the aircraft. Enjoy your videos. Have fun!

    Thanks a lot for sharing! Great flights! Learning the XPlane TBM, I was wondering when do you program your flight plan into the G1000-before or after engine startup? Does the battery take some minutes programming without engine on?

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I typically push it from the ForeFlight plan on my ipad, so it takes only seconds. You could certainly use battery power to work on it before startup, but I usually don't bother. The main thing I want setup is the departure and the first waypoint or 2 after that. Then I double check stuff in cruise for the remainder of the flight, plus ATC often changes things up a little anyway.

    The TBM is on my ever changing short list of aircraft to upgrade to, I was wondering if you would be able to talk about how you went about getting the TBM, why you chose it and maintenance and what not. I am based out of Seguin and could easily make a run to Austin

    I always use “we,” despite the fact that somewhere around 90% of my flying is alone in the cockpit. I figure it’s me and my airplane. I also talk to myself as if I had a pilot monitoring sitting beside me. I’m thinking of starting a flying TH-cam channel with my C441 but it’s a crowded field!

    nice approach into ASE! Does the tower have to clear your inbound turn into the airport, as they mentioned you were clear to make the turn inbound, or do you just fly the approach in, and that was an extra comment?

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, that caught me a little off guard because I had already been cleared to turn in by approach. Maybe sometimes they want to call your turn on final and it was just Tower's habit to say that?

    Aw man you guys went to Durango to hike when you were already at Pagosa? Some of the best hiking I’ve ever done in CO was north of Pagosa near Williams Creek Res. Sorry if this is a dumb question but what’s the TBM stand for? Not a pilot, tho I’d love to be, but I rly enjoyed getting your views of some of my favorite places from above!

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      TBM = TarBes Mooney. Tarbes in the city in France where they build them. Mooney is for the Mooney aircraft company that was involved in the early design of the plane. I have no doubt there must be great hiking in Pagosa - pretty place! We just wanted to check out Durango too, so happened to be out there. :)

    I always love these TBM videos Jason.
    The 3-D video playback look very interesting when the avatar plane landed on the dirt instead of an actual gravel runway.
    Quick question, at the start of 15 minutes the AI voice on your plane stated that there’s a traffic at 11o’clock 1 mile, does that mean that there’s another plane around the same altitude as you, and if so what do you do to avoid traffic do you fly left, right or increase or decrease altitude to avoid the other plane?

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that was calling out the traffic that was coming into the airport. With my traffic alert system you should always put eyes on the other airplane before making a course/altitude change (or follow ATC instructions). Higher end systems in airliners will actually give you a "resolution" by telling you to climb or what have you.

      Sorry, not following the question - do you mean how do you choose a cruise altitude for a given trip?

    • @Rick-tb4so
      @Rick-tb4so 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonFlies As your flying to an airport how is altitude determined at 2 miles out 1 mile out 1k yards out....

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, well you can use the panel to calculate when you should descend from current altitude, once you tell it the desired altitude and location, and the rate or angle you want to descend. ForeFlight Mobile can do a similar calc for your destination too. I usually set the panel up to have me at the airport at 1000 AGL or maybe at airport elevation if I plan to do a straight in landing. If you didn't have that calculation helping you'd need to work it out in your head, maybe using 1000 ft/min as a descent and looking at the current groundspeed to determine how much time you have to get down.

    Question please. If you spend like $3 mill on the plane why does the flat panels on the aircraft not do the job or supply the information you need, in other words why do we need iPads?

    • @JasonFlies
      @JasonFlies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They both have their place. You could certainly fly without an iPad, but it is just more awkward to interact with the screen compared to the touch display of the iPad. Plus we add new features to ForeFlight every month whereas the panel rarely changes at all. iPad works at home for planning, etc too!
