    My thoughts exactly about not being able to see 500 yards! I love this movie but that is a flaw in the movie! If he can't see 500 yards then he would not have been able to see that Buck! Still a very Good Movie Though!

    Very good Movie. But....the Gun is a modified Walther P38. Bergmann have only 6 shot, not 8 and the charging strip comes in the second slot before the Trigger, not into the Handle. And I can see the safety lever from Walther.

    • @Hibernicus1968
      @Hibernicus1968 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not to mention that the 1896 Bergmann (which is what they modified the P-38 to resemble) was a peashooter. It was offered in 5mm and 6.5mm cartridges -- not only small caliber, but quite low velocity as well.

    Interesting exchange of words. Great movie.
    The Bergman-Bayard Models 1908/1910 (not 1911) held 6 rounds in a magazine ahead of the trigger, not "in the handle" and they are not "gas operated". At some point after initial production, there were 10 round magazines available for it.
    The handgun in the movie is a Walther P-38 mocked up to kinda-sorta resemble a Bergman-Bayard 1908.

    As much as I love this scene the one thing that threw me off is John Wayne saying “1911? It’s only 19.9” and don’t know what it means, can anyone educate me on this? 😂 I always thought he actually said “1909” but now hearing him say 19.9 is throwing me off. Is that just how he says the year?

    • @saberx08
      @saberx08 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      He said it was a "Bergman, model 1911". It's a fictitious gun created for the movie. The prop guys took a Walther P-38 and modified it to appear cosmetically similar to a gun called the Bergmann-Bayard pistol model of 1910. Of course, since it was a modified P-38, the magazine loaded in the grip. The Bergmann-Bayard had a magazine well forward of the trigger, like the Mauser model of 1896.
      Since it's a fake gun, it was "gas operated" - because that's what the movie says it is.

      Thank you for offering the CORRECT assessment :-)

    • @Hibernicus1968

      @@saberx08 Actually, it's modified to resemble the Bergmann 1986 -- that's the gun that has that curved housing in front of the trigger, which in the 1896 held an en-bloc clip containing five cartridges in either 5mm Bergmann, or 6.5mm Bergmann -- the gun was really a peashooter. The Bergmann-Bayard was a different and later gun, with a detachable box magazine in front of the trigger, and saw military adoption by Spain and Denmark. It was offered in 9mm Bergmann-Bayard, AKA 9mm Largo. Given that the Bermann-Bayard fired a decently powerful cartridge, and was introduced in 1910 -- making the idea of Michael getting his hands on a pre-production version in 1909 a lot more plausible -- I don't know why they didn't use that gun in the movie. Maybe the production company couldn't get their hands on one.
