    The hour meter will still count below 1900 rpm, the label was indicating the calculated range per every 60 minutes. It's a mechanical gear train driven counter, so even if it was turning 1rpm, it would eventually register hours.

      Correct. It will just take a bit longer to reacht the hour counter up one. 160 hours on the meter shows the engine did 1900 RPM X 160 H X 60 Minutes = 18,240,000 revolutions.

    That D7F seems like it is a pretty nice machine. It looks like it hasn't been abused or butchered. The panels all seem pretty straight and it doesn't look like it has had a bunch of popcorn weld repairs.

      Cancer is a three bladed problem. The state of California has a list of things that cause cancer and birth defects. Vitamin D the sunshine vitamin regulates each of the energy producing mitochondria in each cell. The last is body charge. -10 mev is goal. You can get sheets that ground you, put bear skin on wet soil, grab hold of a tree, get in salt water, or exercise really hard like your near puking. If you are off in any area cancer can start! 2 and it can spread!

    I believe the hour meter will read no matter what the RPM is. It's just that at 1900 RPM for 60 minutes it works out to an hour on the meter. If it ran at 1700 RPM it may have to run for 65 minutes to make an hour on the meter.

    • @ravenbarsrepairs5594
      @ravenbarsrepairs5594 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Likely the opposite. Lower RPM should turn the meter slower and higher RPM turn the meter faster. Makes sense as the meters a measure of engine usage, and higher RPM's equal more "wear", and more frequent PM's. The meter could internally calculate that.

    • @armyranger9346
      @armyranger9346 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ravenbarsrepairs5594 The meter works off of a geared system that has an "X" number of revolutions equaling one hour. It doesn't matter how fast or slow the engine is turning, the number of revolutions that equals one hour on the meter stays the same. At 1900 RPM's, the meter just happens to turn over one hour in sixty minutes. A slower RPM than 1900 and the meter will turn over one hour in over 60 minutes, a higher than 1900 RPM and the meter will turn over an hour in less than 60 minutes.

    • @mog5858
      @mog5858 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@armyranger9346 I don't think you quite understand how the meter works. if you are running less than 1900 rpm it will take longer than 1H to get a 1count on the service meter. all the tag said is at 1900 rpm 1 unit of the service meter is equal to 1H. if you idle for 2H at 950 rpm you will see only 1 unit on the service meter.

    • @armyranger9346
      @armyranger9346 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mog5858 Read my posts. That is exactly what I said. 1900 RPM for 60 minutes (one hour) equals one hour on the meter. 1700 RPM (slower RPM) may take 65 minutes (one hour and five minutes) to show one hour on the meter.

It took experience. diagnostic skills like listening to moving parts with a large screw driver in your ear. We shifted our gears in the 10 speeds by the pyrometer. How about your metallurgical skills? They're perfect. Being able to see a product that has to be made then actually making and installing it is extraordinary. Re hour meter, back in the 1950s, neighbor had an IH British built Diesel tractor with the same type of hour meter on the injection pump and it was clocked to the engine running at 1650 RPM which was the engine speed that gave the standard 540 PTO RPM. So if you ran the tractor engine at 1650 RPM the hour meter would record 1 hour for every clock hour. Run the engine at a slower RPM the hour meter would take more than 1 clock hour to record an hour, faster than 1650 RPM would record more than 1 hour in a clock hour.

    Had me travelling back in time for the looking up shots from the pit - and all those dings in the "oil pan" (we say sump) shield - notice the big Cat doesn't have a cover over the drain plug access hole. As a twelve/thirteen year old I helped out in the same era as this machine rolled off the production - on a Drott out on site. That did have a keyhole protector but as luck had it - the operator drove over some steel angle which sprang up and moved it aside then went clean through into the crank. A proper introduction to life in the field temporary cover from trees and tarps - brewing tea in a bucket over a fire in a cut down 5gal drum. Makes your shop seem like a palace.

    Clint, since its made in england, it might be hours measured in British units.. hence hours and times different in their measuring.... I know a hour is a hour but it may be their way of measuring it. So its still measuring the hours but say its ran at fifteen hundred rpms instead of nineteen hundred rpms, that number would take longer for the hour meter to register the hour. As I say that, it makes no absolute sense as to a hour being a regular hour of wear. This is just a guess

    Interesting bluish color. I was not in the Seebee's but that almost looks like a Navy machinery gray color. Machinery gray had a blueish tint that we used on pumps and other equipment in the fireroom.

    Since it used to be Navy how about painting it back Navy and none of that sand crap. I think you know what I mean that weird off blue color 1 color paint. Just looked it up Navy Seabee color that covers vietnam-era to the 90s, someone mentioned a glossy green. Check it out again that was off somebody's Business site.
