Respect to y’all! Very few creators watch this movie and it’s actually really good. It’s an homage to Grindhouse exploitation movies of the 70s. Kurt Russell is definitely laminated hall pass worthy!

This was the theatrical version as it was released with Planet Terror and both had "missing reels" in order to cut the time down a little. But in their individual releases the missing reels are added back so you can see the lapdance in that version.

Regular theaters as well. It started with the Machete trailer(which eventually got made into a movie), then Planet Terror, then 4 or 5 fake trailers(one of which is Thanksgiving which is now the new Eli Roth movie), then Death Proof. I saw it in the theater. First double feature in my life. It was a good time.

Skips in films were common with explotation films in the 70's. There were very few copies and they were shipped to theater to theater. They became very worn so there were jumps in the movie. And sometimes, the film would break or get stuck and you'd actually see the film burn on the theater screen.

The way it was presented in theaters was Planet Terror first like it was the movie of "today" while Death Proof would be a slightly older movie that it was paired with. Some of the same characters are in both and Rose McGowan (the first to die in the car) has a more minor role in Death Proof, but is the female lead of Planet Terror. It was a great time to watch in the theater. When I came out a guy came up to me and asked if I had just watched it and I said I had and he said that the theater we were in was built on what used to be a drive in and they showed movies just like Grindhouse. I also remember going to the drive in with my parents and one of the double features was a "rape" double. One movie was Lipstick and the other was Jackson County Jail. Another was a disaster double....The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure.

The car movies they mentioned (Vanishing Point, Crazy Larry, 60 Seconds) are all magnificent cult experiences and there were plenty more.
I first saw Grindhouse as a double at the cinema but the home release had loads of extra stuff.

    A little trivia:
In the first part of the film, if you look up on the wall, and yes - you'll see the tank top that Russell wore in "Big Trouble In Little China"
The dust on the film & the bad editing, was done on purpose. It was filmed in Texas, Tennessee, and the central coast area of California (the chase at the end - and, it does look a lot like Alberta, doesn't it?)
"Ami", the jukebox (and all the records) belong to Tarantino.
If you watched "Grindhouse" in its entirety, you learn a lot more about a couple of the characters in this. (🙂)
There's a unrated version of this film that shows the lapdance scene. (This is the theatrical version: the unrated version also has some different dialogue in some scenes)
All the car crashes are real: no cgi, no special effects, all entirely real.
Oh - you MUST, MUST, MUST, see the original "Gone In 60 Seconds"!!!

I think there's a big plot hole in how easily stuntman Mike got away with killing the first group of girls because he was sober and they were not. I'm no expert, but I think it should have been clear from the distribution of the wreckage and bodies and from the skidmarks left on the road when Mike spun his tires before charging into the girls' car, that it was he who was on the wrong side of the road, heading in their direction.

Such an underrated show, honestly, and doesn't get talked about Enough. Tracie Thoms/Det Kat Miller joining the team in the middle of season 3 til the end was like adding an extra ingredient to an already good, established team. That can be hard to do as adding a new character can easily disrupt/disjoint the established vibe instead of just slipping in as easily as she did making the team feel even more complete than it already did.

I rank this as Tarantino's worst.

I wonder if this movie was a psychic apology to Uma Thurman. It was the next thing he did after Kill Bill where he pressured Uma to drive a car on a road that she couldn't handle and ended up breaking her neck.

I think it's only a coincidence. Tarantino has ALWAYS loved cars and every and each one of his films feature cars (or means of transport that are predecessors to cars) in them as MAJOR elements and plot points (except for Inglourious Basterds). People always talk about how Tarantino loves feet, violence and quirky dialogue, but his love for cars (especially classic cars) is one of the major trademarks in his films that for some reason people don't often talk about. It was only a matter of time that he would make a film revolved around cars.

noooo so not only is this reaction much more abbreviated than usual but it's not even the extended cut... I think it's at least 20 minutes longer and includes the full lap dance

Please watch Planet Terror, sooner than later. It's a great complement to this film. And some shared characters.

“I’d be in the car already” no mom no! Lol! For some reason this was not a fan fav, even Tarantino dislikes this film, and it’s honestly one of my favorites of his.

Correction: Uma Thurman is not "done" with Tarantino. The driving thing happened but it wasn't the end of their friendship at all. Quite the contrary. If Tarantino had a part for Uma, she'd do it in a heartbeat. I also have a suspicion that what they announced as Tarantino's tenth movie may be a ruse, and instead his last film being called "The Movie Critic" could actually be a third installment of Uma's character in "Kill Bill". Always thought he left the door open for Vivica Fox's little girl coming back for revenge. "Get Beatrix"! lol. (I hope that ISN'T his last movie because I don't think much of "Kill Bill"!)

That’s weird, did you just pull this up on Grindhouse and skip to Death Proof? The standalone version is different than this one; no missing reel, a little longer, and some different shots in a few parts.

    Thank you.
You have said on several occasions that the movie you are showing your Mom changed cinema. Could I please suggest that you both watch "Lifeforce" (1985) and "Howard the Duck" (1986). Both movies are well written, directed, feature good actors who would become household names, and feature some incredible special effects from big names in the industry. Yet the first "Lifeforce" practically destroyed The Cannon Group Inc. as a movie production company, and the second "Howard the Duck" was so badly received that it supposedly destroyed the cast's careers for years afterwards, though a quick look at their careers following the movie's release suggest otherwise.

Nothing sickens me more than the dumb reactions to this film, even from Tarantino, who says it is his worst movie: He is wrong, this is actually one of his best films; this is actually a favorite film of any genre. The idea is clever: make a 70s style exploitation film, but what if those movies were actually good? You can see the winks and nods if you have seen some of those flims, like Italian gore, etc. The main debate was was the film too talky? I thought the dialogue is its own action. Imagine banal conversations done in clever repast.

I hate that they split the Grindhouse films up. I saw it in theaters and it was a fun ride, commercials and all. Felt like I was a kid watching the double features they used to show in Times Square. That was the allure of the entire thing. Most people that didn't grow up in that era couldn't understand it.
