    Nominated for 3 Oscars:
    Best Cinematography
Best Supporting Actress, Jennifer Jason Leigh
    Best Original Score, Ennio Morricone.
It won the Best Original Score.
It was Ennio Morricone's first and only won after being nominated 5 times since 1979.
He was the oldest winner, 85 years old.
The movie was inspired by THE THING, as we slowly begin to unravel the mystery surrounding the characters and how they are all connected.

23:21 that was a priceless 150 year-old guitar that was on loan from a museum. Jennifer is personally reacting to Kurt smashing the guitar. lol. Kurt thought it was a dummy guitar.

what's funny is that that museum rarely loans out guitars (if ever) and after that they said they would never loan one out ever again

I suspect the tragedy of the guitar dimmed the enthusiasm of the project somewhat besides the financial hit.

Tarantino's own first film, Reservoir Dogs, served as partial inspiration for this film, as well as John Carpenter's The Thing. Tarantino even had the cast of The Hateful Eight watch The Thing together, Kurt Russel included.

That was a real antique guitar Jennifer Jason Leigh was playing. It was supposed to be switched out with a prop for Kurt Russel to smash but because of a miscommunication, he smashed the real one. Leigh shouting "Whoa whoa whoa!" was her real shocked reaction.

Walton Goggins is one of my favorite actors of all time, besides Denzel Washington. He's one of the best dialog deliverers I've ever seen. I loved him as Boyd Crowder in the show Justified. He was at his best in that show. I also loved him in Django, Sons of Anarchy, The Hateful Eight, The shield and many other things.

Thanks Nick and Jen, you've given me another movie on my list of "must watch" with my husband Ron. And congratulations Nick for being able to control your natural reflexes during the poisoned characters reactions scenes. A 2016 Cohen Brothers film I'd like to recommend is HAIL, CAESAR! (not a Roman epic.) It is set in old (early 1950's ) Hollywood. We already knew Channing Tatum could dance (?), well bump & grind, but now we see him really dance while filming a musical number (a send up spoof of a typical Gene Kelly sailor boy routine.) And not the hero and neither is George.

They filmed this movie on a 900-acre ranch in Colorado for the exterior shots as well as portions of the interior shots of Minnie's. The rest was filmed on a recreated set in Hollywood, which they aways kept at the same very cold temperature while they were working, meaning the crew was wearing jackets and parkas and such in sunny California while filming this movie.

Homages Quentin Tarantino paid to Sergio Leone in this film include (1) Tatum who's known for portraying "good guys" in film is cast as the main "bad guy". Similar to Leone casting "good guy" Henry Fonda as the main "bad guy" in "Once Upon a Time in the West". (2) Minnie's haberdashery is actually a renovation of the house Jill McBain inherited in "Once Upon a Time in the West".

I would highly recommend a little-known film called 'Daddy And Them' (2001) with Walter Goggins if you enjoy his acting. It was written and directed by Billy Bob Thornton and was supposed to be released right after Sling Blade but there was some dispute and it got shelved for a few years.
At any rate, it's a hilarious southern comedy with a slew of great actors, some of which took little to no pay to be in it, John Prine, Laura Dern, Andy Griffith, Ben Affleck, Kelly Preston, Diane Ladd, Brenda Blethyn, Tuesday Knight, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jim Varney. It's honestly one of my favorite films so I always try to turn people onto it.

Oh, dear. That's the guitar I told you in another Tarantino movie review. The guitar was a real western era acoustic guitar lended by a museum, and Tarantino didn't told Russell about it, so Russell broke it. I'm pretty sure Tarantino did it on purpose, you don't let sometjing like this happen so easily. Great movie maker but a total lunatic about anything else.

I love your reactions, mostly, but I can't say I'm in the "depends on what she did" camp. Brutality is brutality, and when it's not in self-defense but gratuitously sadistic, what can I say? We shouldn't sink to the level of those we deplore. Restrain them from doing more harm, sure, but when we "battle with monsters" or "stare into the abyss" (as Nietzsche warned), we risk becoming the darkness we abhor.

For some people I can see this being kinda boring because it's more of a self-contained movie and most of it takes place primarily in one room it definitely makes sense because of the situation all of the characters find themselves in and I do like the self contained setting but I still like Django a whole lot better but this is still a pretty solid Quentin Tarantino movie for the most part
