LMAO. SafeLite from Jackson TN. came out to the truckstop and replaced the windows in my freightliner classic in about an hour and a half. 😊 An to my amazement. They didn't leak. Always found in 45years. It was easier just to let the glass guys do their thing. Just Saying. 🇺🇸 Keep Em Flyin. Stay Safe.

Hey James the method I have used in the past, is to wrap cord around the outside of the rubber (with the window in place) so you have the two ends meet at one end. Then have someone apply pressure to the outside, then pull each end of the cord down towards you, This will then pull the edges of the rubber inside the truck. hope this makes sense.

I tried to do a DIY windshield replacement years back. I got the windshield out and bought a used replacement from a junkyard only to break it while trying to install it. Needless to say, I pay a pro to do that job. I'm good at turning a wrench, but glass work, well not so much.

    Hey Jimmy
Make sure to attach that ECM properly. Vibration is the biggest killer of electronics along with heat which is why I will never understand why they mounted it there.
Get a 6” or 10” orbital polisher. It will buff up a lot faster and use 3M rubbing compound.
No need to punish the poor guy. Lol!

wow, glass is hard. Great job James and Johnny! Im glad the glass was flat. Curved glass is a whole different animal. Ive seen trucks on their side blown over by the wind. Usually the driver just puts his feet on the windshield and pushes it to get out of the truck. I live in NM and we have really strong winds sometimes.

James in the past when I have fitted windows, I put the rubber around the glass then put some cord in the grove that straddles the frame. Push the glass hard against frame and have someone on the inside pull both ends of the cord towards themselves slowly, rubber will open up over frame lip and glass will go in. I always battled but it worked. The ones I have done were always single not double like you did. Getting glass out once locking strip out would push out from inside with my feet. The glass guys make it look so easy.

hey JP. The weak part is the new glass, so -think -U wrap the rubber seal around the glass first.
Then U have a cord in the rubber groove for the truck glass frame, which U pull so the lip of the rubber opens up to accept the frame simultaneously. its an art- anyway, U did It your way -- enjoy the MATS show, n I am sure that U will be busy with people come up to U.

I've worked on trucks over 50 years and never did anything to windows except rainX an washer fluid. LISK had a bunch of those freightliners but I started with an eagle cornbinder conventional with a 60 series Detroit then after major heart valve surgery my boss gave me a frt-liner with the first automatic trans I ever drove. My boss was doing me a big favor an said it would be so much easier for me. I said AUTO-MATIC😢I've been trucking since 1969-70 an drove every trans made with a stick, 2 stick whatever, 13,15,5speed etc and I thought what is the world coming to my pride won't let me do that. I was ashamed for a year to even tell anyone I drove a 10 speed uh, auto. I still manually shifted it with the button an finally got it goin perty good after I got the rpms an timing right I could Georgia overdrive in an out of gear as good as I could with straight drive and yes me an my buddies were wildcatters an took pills an ran ourselves ragged always over weight running around the coups, 2 or 3 log books. For some that read this will get the wrong idea but the OP we drove for wanted to make money and so did we. I trip leased all the time never using the right placards etc, well you get the point. Pulled wide an heavy at night up an down these mountains to all the coal mines. I pulled a fltbd, tank, bull wagon, drop decks, wedges, dry van, reefer all 48,low boys, rails, gas tankers everything but a parking lot and 1 company turned me down for a job because I was over qualified. Sorry to go on an on but all my trucking buddies are gone I live by myself and no one to talk to. I also trained drivers with Anderson &Webb Mt Airy NC in early 80s. Ran double with Cook back then also in Mt Airy NC. I've been around the horn an so beat up I can barely move my head because of the trailer whip lash. But I loved it. My 3rd wife thought all I did was ride around all day being flashed with breasts until I took her for a month, heeee heeeeeee that broke her from sucking eggs when we ran over a thousand miles the first 4 days without a shower.

Even on a good day, tempers flare as ya do a glass install and they way U done it is harder than a short legged mule in a carnival giving rides to the kids on a hot long day. But no black eyes and no divorce so its all good I do suppose. I have never had success that way, just used the rope and pulled them in. After about twenty windshields ya think your good.... do the next two windows and bust ever damn one of them... and its the best dang tinted glass you can afford at the time. I was driving for a company that said if it pertains to safety or getting tickets then have it fixed. I go in for a glass on the passenger side as it got a rock through it. They asked tint?? Sure, go for it... and then looking at those windshields, knew it needed a window matching so they put it in... that glass was not broken but it was so full of road rash, figured no problem... cost eighty dollars in about nineteen eighty two I think was the year. My boss hit the roof as the cost will break him.... I am looking at him square in the face... I took a hundred dollar bill out of my pocket and tossed it on his desk, said there is enough to cover glass and get yourself a hamburger as you must be broke! Then I tossed him the key for that truck and headed out the door... he says where are you going? Told him I only work for a outfit that can make a payday!.... oh, ya don't own me for the last two days of driving either so you might just pay a other driver... he is laughing and said, your not going to get a job in this town... and I told him... hey, have you drove by my place??? I have three near new KW's paid for with a job everyday for all of them
