Thanks very much for these 2 videos. These are the only ones I found on tackling a sock from the point of view of simply learning the basics rather than following a complex pattern. Once I learn the basics I feel like I can go on to tackle more complex things. I am going to practice this first and then move on. Thanks again, you've done a real service to we beginners out here.
RJ...I've watched many tutorials to get started on knitting socks and yours is by far the easiest to follow. Thank you very much!
What a great video for making a pair of socks...Just finished my very first sock. You made it very easy and enjoyable... I am off to make the matching pair...Thank you very much. :)
My mom passed in 2004 and I regret that I never got her to show me how to knit. I have just started to learn and your videos are awesome! Thank you. She was so good and used to make argyle patterns...it will be a long time before I can even consider trying that! But now, I will try the basic sock.
Completed my first sock in fisherman's wool! Super warm and cozy! I am so proud of myself 😂 making these for Christmas. I used the worsted weight yarn with 5.5mm needles. I honestly had no idea how the gauge would turn out but i love it! I have normal with size 8 feet and i did 15 rows for the heel and i did about 34 rows for the foot to give some stretch room. Thanks so much!
woo! merry christmas!
I'm going to try with wool next time!
Ive taken numerous online classes on how to knit socks but none were easy to follow as yours! I actually made my first pair following your video. Thank you!
Nice! You explain things really well and clearly, with gentle humor to boot, and not just “what to do” but also how and why it works, (and all with light colored yarn in good lighting, no less!) such that it really helped me to rap my head around the logic of the pattern itself-in fact, such that I was able to adapt your instructions to make a pair of infant socks (cast on 20 sts on sz 5 needles). My only complaint would be the lack of a written companion pattern for reference, which would have been really useful-but that is truly a minor inconvenience. Thanks, RJ!
Watching your videos makes me think I can do more complicated things. Thank you!
I just finished knitting my first sock! Thank you.
Thank you so much for a great video tutorial. I wrote out your directions and I've had great success each time. You are a great teacher Ryan. Keep up the great work on this channel.
Love the way you can go from scandinavian style to English style as needed.
I have been knitting socks for awhile but could never understand my pattern until I watched your video. Thank you so much.
I always weave and graft the ends. They never look wrong. The shape is more rounded.
very well explained and easy to follow...thank you
Love knitting socks with you. On my fifth pair. I think I'm getting better.😊
I just finished my very first pair of socks thank you so much Ryan you are so easy to follow I am so proud of myself
Woooo! Well done! And just in time for winter too. :)
Can’t wait to start. Thank you so much 👍
Love knitting socks with you 💟
Fantastic instruction. Thanks RJ
i feel like i just unlocked a secret of the universe.
thank you.
The way I learned to do an SSK was to slip 2 stitches, then insert in such a way that you knit in the back loop without inserting the needle purlwise. I actually often slip twice(so back onto left needle so that it is in the back loop already) and decrease and I have always gotten the lean of an SSK that way.
Wow now I'm not so intimidated to try this thank you Todd.
Love ya Ryan!
Hi Ryan. I am from.India. Thanks for your guidance n help to knit socks on 4 needles. I am not really a beginner, but only I do not have the confidence to work on my own especially when it comes to knitting varied sizes. After watching yr video I knitted exactly like you showed. Thanks for the way you explained....Winnie

If DPNs scare you: there are tiny circular needles special for sox! Just use knitting spacers to separate the sections as you follow the pattern.

I love your video !!! Best one I found to date! Making my very first sock ever !! On the toe
RJ: "Once you're satisfied with your weaving...."
Me: "I'm NEVER satisfied with my weaving..." ~sigh~🤦♀️
quick question: What kind of yarn do you normally use to knit socks? I used cotton yarn and the cuff part ended up being stretched out when I put it on my foot? Any tips on how to have that not happen, or I might have just used the wrong type of yarn. Thanks!
I learned about the kit stich at the end
Thanks for this awesome video. Made my first socks!
great job teaching!!!!!!
thank you, I knitted my first pair of socks.
Great video!
Thank you for the tutorial.
Hi Rob, I just want to say i enjoyed your two videos on how to make socks. Have you tried using 2 circular needles rather than 4 doubles? Also, is the formula for the heel turn always the same, Like you started that first row when you did the short rows by knitting four and then turning?, and then it goes down to 3, then 2, then 1....
great video - thank you for explaining the sock in a way that it has taken me years to get over the confusion of. can't wait till i get my sock yarn in the mail.

Finger weight knitting socks
You should’ve made a video for beginners too. You skipped A WHOLE SECTION of the sock. How am I supposed to know what to do?
Vanessa Da-Sandwich this was for beginners. This is part 2. watch part 1 first
Thank you so much for thus very easy to follow tutorial. I did knit a sock three years ago following thus tutorial to commemorate what would have been my fathers 100 birthday. My father did not lay much value on the education my sisters and I( 7 girls ) were being given because we were not taught how to knit socks and particularly how to turn a heal. I now have the sock with the turned heal in a frame. I now want to leave hand knitted socks for my children to remember me by. They will be knitted with love and great New Zealand yarn.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill.
