Kinda had a feeling these guys would have the infamous Canadian spec K5CA-LS and I was right. Not at all surprised…
Why does it sound like a 3rd Gen K5HL
It's kind of mandatory for Alstom CEM Cab cars to always wear a K5CA-LS
And that the railroads that own em can't replace the horn
@@Canadian_Winters They follow GO Transit specifications which means they’re Transport Canada compliant
they should swap the horn

That would be me in the fireman's seat on these test trains. Not that you can really see me. We saw whomever filmed this while they were filming it. Glad you guys had fun, we did as well.

Very cool! I was the other guy you saw lol. We noticed a whole lot of brake shoe smoke from the new cabcar when you made the stop. New brakes I suppose?
@@amtrak706 Yeah... From testing! Were you the lazy one on the bench or the one behind the 40 cameras on the tripod?
@@sportbikepilot That would be me with the camera + phone setup, lol. Visiting the lazy bench guy from out of town. We were there to get a video of Surfliner coming through at 90 mph. Had no idea the test train was out there.
@@amtrak706 Yeah I was curious if you folks knew we would be testing that day, or if you just happen to have caught us there. That answers that. Tell bench guy to get a job (we're hiring btw).

funny thing is this cab car was made all the way back in like 2021 and was delivered in 2023 or early 2024
Ugh, darn that AirChime K5CA-LS horn. At least the Bombardier Bi-Level coaches weren’t replaced

but why do the cab cars have 3 digit numbers and the regular cars have 5 digit numbers when the rest of the coaster fleet has 4 digit fleet numbers. I thought the cab cars were supposed to continue the 2300 series the rest of the cab cars have. And why start in the 420s instead the 400s?

422s Horn & Bell Sounds Like GO Transit
they are built to GO spec like the Sounder cabs

@@TracksideKitchenerThe bell does not matter, what matter is that Alstom refuses to allow horns on these cabs to be interchangeable
@@GamingRailfanner Pretty sure the horn is replaceable by shop crews. IIRC there’s a Sounder MP40 that got a replacement K5LA but can’t remember the number to the top of my head…
Very interesting to see these cars finally out on the mainline, can't help but notice the strange numbering on all the new cars. Wonder when they'll all be on regular service?

I’d prefer the bombardiers instead of the cem cab cars.
The new cab cars are only for fleet expansion. Only 3 of them were bought compared to the 10 old cab cars. The old cab cars will still be running for many years to come.

@SalmanMentos no only 3 of these were ordered while there are 10 older ones. The new ones are service expansions
@@adventuresofamtrakcascades301 5008 & 5009 are also used for service expansions, 5006 & 5007 replaced the 2 F59PHIs, numbered 3001 & 3002, both of which are at the yard

Its half stage. They can get louder if you press the button all the way down.

@@BalloonBugle88ACE is not replacing the old cabs with the CEM cabs, I think they’re for the extension to Modesto in 2026
