    I bought this and have used it for quite a few camp trips now and I highly recommend it. It is everything I was looking for. It is cheaply manufactured, but at the price I got it for it is still a really good deal! It's still performing flawlessly. I don't think there's another solar panel, battery bank combo that is this good for three times the price. This one is lightweight and compact, and has the removable battery if you want to go even lighter-weight on shorter trips.

    hi Walker, your review for this charger is really great. very detailed and informative, really better than any another purely product reviewer, you tried and tested everything by yourself.
    Yet, i dont think the charger is good enought to carry around for outdoor, i know there is one solar power bank. 20000mah, 5 detachable solar panels, three modes led light with sos mode and strobe mode.
    the other awesome thing about it is that it supports qi wireless charging, tho low speed, but its really a great product idea, i truly hope you can test and review it.

    I prefer a larger folding solar array, basically because, sunny winter days are rare, so derated for cloud cover, I still get usable wattage. Currently have a 28w array, and while a bit big at 11-1/4" x 6-3/4" (28.5cm x 17cm) it still easily packs along with other gear easily enough.
    Pretty neat having both the array and the bank in a single unit, but if one half fails, you lose them both.

    There are many of these on the market. You can do all the math in the world but the final test is from empy, put the panels flat in the sun, all depending on how large your battery is, it will take a week to 2 weeks to get it full again. That assumes the sun is out with out clouds. The novalty will wear off shortly, and will be using the usb to charge.. I returned mine for a batter bank without solor

    This looks cool. It says three panels on Amazon, but I see four on yours. I believe I’m looking at the same model, but with only three panels. I do like the large ECEEN single panel you have, it can be attached to the back of your pack, and charge while your hiking.

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They come 2 to 4 panels. More are better IMHO as the increase in power comes at little extra weight or bulk. I didn't add a link as the one I purchased on Gearbest wasn't there anymore. I should try to search again. Here is something on ebay though got tricked on a similar model (didn't have a lithium battery aka kit thing). The title was misleading however the description said it so that was my bad. I see a 4 panel one here but know nothing of the dealer. I paid in the mid 20's on Gearbest. www.ebay.com/itm/8W-6W-4W-10000MAH-Foldable-Solar-Panel-Power-Bank-Battery-Charger-for-Phones/113027225787?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131017132637%26meid%3De8c0975115ee47d6855d9504b545c555%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D113027225787%26itm%3D113027225787&_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042

    Great review!
    I'm in the market for a foldable solar battery bank. I want something to take camping for three days to a week and not worry about my phone battery dying - mostly for pictures and videos. Is this something you would recommend for that? Ideally I'd like to have a fully charged phone every morning and hope to get enough sun throughout the day to recharge the battery enough so that a day or two of no sunshine doesn't make me have to start rationing my power. Would you recommend this, or is there one with a larger capacity for charge that might be better? I want something that would fit in a typical fanny pack and be relatively lightweight (around a pound - more if I get a lot more battery capacity).
    How many hours does it take to fully charge this one? I'm going to watch the video again, I know you mentioned ten hours in there at one point.
    Thanks for posting this video!
    I just took a look at the Amazon link and it says a 10,000 mAh $42.00 right now! Yours was listed at 5000 mAh? I might have to get it if the battery is a real 10,000!! They're claiming it's on sale for $80.00 cheaper that 'retail' too. 🤔
    Edit: I ordered it and have it now. It seems pretty nice! The plastic that retains the battery is a little flimsy, but it might last awhile, and then I'll duct-tape or velcro it on. If it lasts a few years I'll be really happy!
    Note: The one I ordered was listed as a 10,000 not 5,000. I imagine it's only 5,000 because it seems identical to yours including the weight. If mine performs as good as you say it does then it's what I want. I should be able to keep the battery and my phone topped off and have plenty of reserve to get me through a stormy day or three.
    Thanks for sharing your review of this battery and charger! I wanted something decent and cheap. I think this is going to do what I want it to do.

      I used a eceen 10watt folding panel and a anker 26800 mAH battery bank for 4 months in Colorado. I was backpacking all over. I never had to plug into a wall. My flashlight,phone, GPS, gopro,tablet, were fully charged about 75percent of the time. I think the battery bank was about 1lbs and the panel was less then half.

    • @jackpumpkin
      @jackpumpkin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the battery bank was 40 and the panel was 30 bucks. I have a video on it

    • @nathansharp3193
      @nathansharp3193 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jack Pumpkin : Thanks for the reply. I ordered this one already and it has a good backpacking weight. I think 11 oz for solar and battery pack. And with the option to remove the battery pack to take on shorter trips without the panels it's a relatively lightweight standalone battery - but with questionable construction. With any luck I'll get a few years out of this one. And with the steady improvements in battery and solar technology they should be much better in a few years and cost less.
      That's awesome you got a setup that can last indefinitely!! I'm going to be able to give mine a decent test pretty soon and I'll know if I got what I wanted, or if I screwed up by trying to save a few bucks.
      I'll check out your video. Hopefully I won't be disappointed in mine. But I think I have some time to return it if it totally sucks.

I saw the review but did you really like it? I ordered one of them and I just didn't like the idea that it's the only powerbank that can hook up to the solar panels via those two little connectors on the back of the power bank. I ended up going with a different one that I liked a lot more just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed your videos buddy

      So far it's good. Odds are if you ordered one without the detachable powerbank it's the same thing just setup with a positive and negative wire direct connect. I have one of those as well but minus the internal battery (kit type project). So I can see all the internal parts etc etc. I was surprised this actually beat the listed specs. Naturally I ignored what the sellers said rather what was actually listed. Here is another type which I run in my adventure bag. • @allexking

    Hi Walker, i must say that this is not really efficient way for charging. Using solar panel to charge power bank so you can charge other things it's bad because you lose lot of current from panel. Let's say that panels have 1.5w each, so 6w at 5v, they can produce 1.2A/h max and you got only 462mah, so you lose 738mah/h, your power bank charging circuit and output converter wasted more then half of they power! If you want to get max from that panels, you must use them separate, add some high efficiency(~90%) regulator on panel output pins, and when is sunny charge your devices directly from it, and you can get around 1A/h! Keep your power bank full in pocket for reserve, when sun goes...:) Cheers!

    • @MegaWoodswalker
      @MegaWoodswalker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The numbers doesn't really work out that way in the field because it's more complex. For example many devices will develop charge errors during intermittent sun. A cellphone can at times no longer recognize the panel. It can resume charge at a lower rate. I have actually verified in testing. Other USB devices like battery chargers for lithium ion or NiMH (lithium ion is faster) can simply go offline and not resume charging once the sun is out. Also if the device is expensive I am forced to baby it at camp aka can't leave it unattended in many areas. Who cares if someone walks off with a 20 dollar powerbank however some of my other gear like camera equipment, phones etc etc are expensive. I also don't worry if the weather turns bad as again the gear is cheap. A cell phone can reduce charge at times... actually drop in percentages for a net loss aka drain the device when being charged via solar. You read that in Amazon reviews all the time but the people very often don't get it. This can happen with weaker intermittent sun (be it from the trail when moving or many clouds) causes the phone to turn on and off many times. This drains the device faster than the weak solar charge in those conditions can charge it.
      I do own some panels which have countermeasures against charge errors. The ECEEN 7 (really 6.5), 10 and 13 watt panels reset every 3 minutes. The Renegy 10w(testing now) seems to reset at .20ish of an Amp. The Goal Zero Nomad 14 Plus does something similar but maybe a little slower than the Renegy 10w however still testing. My older Allpowers 6,12 and 16w and 14w X-Dragon have ZERO countermeasures and almost certainly fail to charge a phone with interrupted sun. However all can fail if conditions are near the threshold countermeasures in terms of actually draining the device.
      Many manufactures including Goal Zero (they're too expensive but love my Sherpa) recommend charging a powerbank first. They do this for a reason. Powerbanks for the most part are simple kit in terms of functions. Less to go wrong. They accept a charge seemingly no matter how weak or intermittent. The simple device always comes back on charging at the same rate after clouds pass on. Multiple on and off cycles don't reduce the internal lithium ion or polymer batteries as there is little cost for the operation. I am free to use the power for whatever I want later. I don't have to second guess.
      All of that said I do often charge devices like phones directly via solar.ex. Works great when I am in camp and can check everything is going ok and my kit won't walk off. Here are some solar type videos I have done. Thanks for watching!

      @@MegaWoodswalker Yes, i agree, some phones will turn on/off if there is no enough current to activate charging circuit, in my case that is not problem, i just test it out on honor 9, INDOOR, like 1meter from 100w bulb, and quess what, it turns ON, charging it with 0.56mAh(bellow 0.56mAh it turns off) just can't believe what i saw haha, and i did it with single 1.5w panel! So, putting more of this panels in parallel will work without any problem on this phone outdoor even if there is no visible sun at all, it will only charge it slower. But you are right, for some phones this can be issues. This is the best way to use full power from panels!

      I doubt it can charge your laptop directly. But if you have a portable USB-c laptop charger, you could charge that with the device in this video and then charge your laptop from the USB-c laptop charger.

      COOPOW 10000mAh Fast Solar Charger. Thanks for watching!

    this solar charger is too small just for kids to play. and i prefer solar panel without power bank. u can allways connect external one with 2amps inputs...

      The pro to this one is it doesn’t require the panels and takes up less room. My preference if possible is a larger panel and separate powerbank but I can toss this into a day pack with or without the panels and it takes up about the same space. Thanks for watching!

      I am working on a winter solar setup for cranking cold hot tenting. Have a cold resistance 18650. A larger panel for winter low light such as a 28w would help so been looking at them.

      Does it have the anti charger error feature like ECEEN aka passing clouds will not induce a charge error. The panel looks good!
