I would truly like to know who the rotten, grumpy people are that would dislike one of your video's. You both are quit literally the highlight of my day. I look forward to watching your video's each night I get done with work. Even after a bad day I have to admit you both have a way of putting a smile on my face. Please keep the video's coming they are truly enjoyed...

Yes, the thumbs down are a puzzel. Some of them might be accidental . Some could just be people who randomly clicked to view the video and it just wasn't what they expected. Some might just really have it in for cats 8--)

Did this stretch a few years back, I didn't go much on Armitage Tunnel, personally.. but I was pleased to see an appearance of the "bent" lock arms at Fradley (and there are more at Great Heywood). I love the way you capture the minutiae of canal life in your videos. Yes, even the weather. But remember, a rainy day on the canal is still better than a sunny day in the office.

Thomas Crapper was an English plumber who founded Thomas Crapper & Co in London, a sanitary equipment company. Crapper held nine patents, three of them for water closet improvements such as the floating ballcock. He improved the S-bend trap in 1880 inventing the plumbing trap.

I am from central United States (East Central Indiana) and I'm just now kind of discovering this narrow boat thing in England. I had never heard of it until I was recovering from Heart surgery and came across a video of someone 35-40 who had just purchased one and made a video of him changing his life. Now several months later I'm looking into this life. I am quite fascinated by it. I can definitely see myself exiting the rat race and Indiana's winters with blistering temps and large snowfalls for this lifestyle. I don't think my wife would be very happy living on a small boat, but the slow pace would make me elated. Thanks for sharing your journey with us all. Keep up the great job and for putting joy into the world. May you always be dry and under power.Michael

Oh, "conveniences" brings to mind something read several years ago about an American gal on a business trip to UK and her "educational experience" learning that just because English and English are both named English, that doesn't mean they are identical languages - she had sent messages to a few people notifying them that she would be happy to meet them at their convenience.
My Dad was in US Navy so as well as toilet we used the word head. And then when I got interested in railways I learned that toilets in passenger cars and cabooses were often termed hoppers, probably because that's essentially what they were, a hopper chute which led out the bottom of the car to the track.
And that brings to mind ...
The time in a previous century when I was with the National Railway Historical Society ...
When we had some elementary school kids on a trip on vintage passenger cars ...
And one youngster flushed the toilet/hopper ...
    And totally freaked out ...
When the flap at the bottom opened to give a view of the track whizzing along below the car.
Yep, 1970s/80s kid meets 1920s technology.
Yep, that was an educational experience!

I grew up in the south (USA) where a lot of the old timers still refer to the Lu as a 'commode'. When I moved west in my 20's I had to stop saying 'commode' because people either didn't know what it was or thought it was funny. When I moved back to the south people thought saying 'toilet' was crude. It was bathroom or commode. Lol! Funny how 'regional' things can be. ;-)

As always a nice jolly cruise in all weathers, plus soothing music with life progressing slowly along. Toilets , on board all boats are called 'heads' , like kitchens are galleys, walls are bulkheads , etc. As a child they were called lavatories shortened to lavvy which of course were always outside. If you were posh and had an indoor lavvy then you would call it a bathroom or toilet. An uncouth youth might say 'bog' but they knew no better. I'm told that Australians in the outback had dung heaps shortened to 'dunnies ' but you would expect that wouldn't you ? Carry on regardless.

Hi ladies, good to see you on the move despite the rotten weather. You now see very settled and happy in your new boat. I hope that we get to see the changes and upgrades that you undertake as time goes on. Here are a few more words for toilet that I have used during my life. As a kid at school in Lancashire it was the "bog", but not at home! We also had a cottage that was not on mains sewers and it had a "thunder box" that the municipality would dig out when it was full. When I lived in Edinburgh it was occasionally called the "cludgie" and now in here in Thailand it is the "suuam" for toilet & "hong naam" for bathroom. Hope you can add them to your collection. May you get some summer soon.

Another lovely blog. You look so comfortable in the rain but I suppose it's all part of the experience. In South Australia I grew up saying Dunny and Loo. My Mum used the term 'spend a penny' because in the 50's when you went to Myer's (a department store) you had to put a penny in a device that would then open the toilet door. Very posh toilets they were. Reading rooms, Mothers rooms and Assistants to help you. I would love to see a toilet Museum. I am fascinated with the invention of flushing toilets because I grew up with an OutHouse that Dad had to empty and clean. The man who first made an attempt to design a flushing toilet was Mr. Alexander Cumming in 1775. Joseph Bramah who received a patent for the first really practical water closet in 1778. Next came Mr Crapper. See! I would love that Museum.

Aghh, delightful. With you on the wind thing. So you get a bit soggy, but your not fighting to keep the boat somewhere near the middle, 'crabbing' like crazy, looking like you don't know what your doing😂😂. Love the way cats check, check, then check again, before they make a decision to move to the next square inch, so comical to watch, but that's why they have nine lives🐱🐱. I remember going thro the skinny tunnel last month, sooooooo tight! Toilet when I was growing up, then bog, at school, then crapper at work, after the guy Thomas Crapper who didn't invent the toilet, he refined it!! Apt name don't you think. Cross fingers we are heading towards an Indian summer, coz so far, damp squib comes to mind. xx

If you are going to fuel oil, how will you keep the nose of your boat down during the winter? I noticed on your trip to Wales, you had a bunch of coal holding down the nose. Annamarie - Many moons ago, in the dim ages of the past, in the days of my youth, we called it The Crapper. Name came from Thomas Crapper (baptised 28 September 1836; died 27 January 1910), sometimes credited with the invention of the flush toilet.
Through the hedge to the toilet museum would be wondrous.

In the mountains of West Virginia, USA we said outhouse or the sh*tter. Yes, I was born in a tarpaper shack with no running water and dirt floors.

When I was a kid in upstate N.Y., my neighbors had a Kazootie, which was a 3 seater outhouse, cause when it is cold and dark outside who wants to go out without company.

Ah my Sunday is complete😊. A most enjoyable cruise. Funnily enough I have just spent my weekend out in very similar weather. But of course it is that time of year for us😉.
    Anna stopping tracffic😂😂😂😂
Plus the added bonus of reading all the toilet talk comments. Of course it was the dunny around my younger haunts (deep outback SA, no not in Africa!), although my grandmother did "go to spend a penny" back in civilisation. These comments have reminded me of reading a book in my teens which mentioned digging a "bog" and not having a clue what was meant. Later in the book someone ended up falling in the s#*t and it all became clear.
    Loving your work ladies.

Great video, ladies. Having an unusually cold and wet summer here in the PNW of the USA as well. Not complaining at all, will happily take it over heat.

Here in Texas people often say they're going to the pot. I also wanted to comment that I LOVE the way y'all do your music. Most channels have the music SO loud that I'm constantly turning my volume up and down. It can be so annoying so thanks :)

    Hiya girls,
    This vlog was so funny.
Anna you was saying how you felt the boat was so light.
Then saying "I don't like the wind" and "maybe I'm getting stronger" and that made me think, poor Kath, Alice, and Munchie, putting up with your stronger wind! 🤣🤣
Then Anna, you said you were the crew, so it was your job to stop any traffic from coming through the tunnel, then we saw traffic coming from the opposite direction, in the form of a duck!! (Didn't stop all traffic then!) 🤣
A 'through the hedge' vlog about toilets, ...... isn't that when the cassette is full, there's no facilities near, so you'll see a boater going through the hedge with a toilet roll in one hand??!🤣🤣
And finally, we used to call our toilet, 'the bog of eternal stench which we copied the name from a film, the labyrinth, starring David Bowie. 🤣🤣
The 'thumbs down' are from Australian viewers, who live on the other side of the 🌎, so everything from there, to us, is upside down!! So that their likes look upside-down down 😄
Keep the vlog coming, even in the rain. You two are so lovely to watch, and to give us all an insight into your lives, on the house that floats. I'm catching up on your past vlogs, so I'll be up to date one day.
    Xx

Sounds like cheese sandwiches are staple fare on narrowboats. That’s a favourite on CtC too.

Great Vlog. I will be cruising from Barton turns marina on Saturday heading towards Stafford so if you are still in the area watch out because it's been 15 years since I last steered a narrowboat lol

Fradley Junction is one of my favourite places to visit. Local to home and a lovely breakfast! Alrewas is pronounced Al - re- was. Lovely video and you both are so cheery despite the rain. The cooling towers in Rugeley are soon to be removed so you may not see them on future trips past. Re toilet talk you forgot to mention Thomas Crapper who held many patents for, what we would consider, to be the modern flush toilet.
