    I was very impress with the way he shows folk how to anything with photography. His instructions are very clear and concise, and simple, step by step unlike most others. It is easy to understand the way he demos and bring you back to the basic. Don't get me wrong, to be good on something , you must understand the basic completely, even when you're good as it , sometimes you still need to go back to the basic to refresh and testing your knowledge. Mr. RealWorld is very consistent on every video he made . Thank you for doing such a great job, you're truly a great teacher.

    I have a Nikon D3100, a cheap Amazon Basics speedlight, cheap diffuser like the one at the end of this vid, a Dynex tripod (almost the same as your old tripod) and a kit lens, and let me tell you, your series has more relevant information for me than anything else I've watched or read. I constantly find myself making notes from your videos and trying everything on my own. Keep it up man! Thank you!

    Thank you for this video! I was asked to do an indoor wedding reception and panicked because I know what happens to my images in a setting like a dark church rec hall. I bought a flash and this was incredibly helpful to explaining about flash in general and what it can do. Time to practice!!!

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the post!:) Ahhhh yes, indoor receptions - good times but challenging for photography depending on available light:). The key is to open the aperture and raise the ISO in order to get a fast enough shutter to stop motion.

    Man, the production value of this video was on point! I really appreciated how you did your opening and closing dialogue, at least to my perception, in one take. That showed me you knew your material well, and it was easy on my eyes without having to see a video that is constantly stuttering from constant retakes. Your source material was excellent and I enjoyed your camera hacks with the tissue and tin foil. In closing, excellent video! PS: Your audio was excellent. In your previous videos, it had either too much bass or too much treble.

    1:20 lol I so did that years ago. First time I came around a video that showed this trick. I all so used paper as a diffuser and to lower how bright the flash is even covering half of the flash with paper if flashing directly on the subject as a fill light so I can get the back ground light in the photo.

    As always life gets hectic (major health stuff) when we buy new stuff sometimes. After using this flash for a very short bit, I found I had already forgot more than I knew about it. So I always head on back to RealWorld :-) Nice little refresher and I even busted out the tissue paper and foil I had in my bag from first watching this to follow along with.
    Im curious if you ever decided to take further look into this with us as far as S1 goes or S2 and firing the flash with the built in flash if one has no trigger on hand or heaven forbid dead batteries.
    On a side note, when the video was over I set a guitar case up against the wall with a very mean shadow of it. Using the flash and messing around, I was able to soften up the image (light) and grt rid of the shadow the case was giving off. A nice walk around the room from different angles made for great learning adventures as well.
    As always very much appreciative for you sharing with us. Hope all is well in the great Hoosier State. Take care and we'll catch you on the next one.
    P.S. Leaf changes are coming in the Shawnee! :-)

    Mark, my wallet loves you :D
    I might be getting a package with an identical flash (or two), I just haven't pulled the trigger yet.
    It's a neat, and cheap package with remote trigger, cords and diffusers - And it's even cheaper buying it on Amazon compared to local prices for just a single flash by metz, sigma or whatever.
    Also found out they make a solid looking "knock off" version of the Kenko Extension tubes, so I'll give those a try as well :D
    Can't wait to finally try using a flash but it might also get me to take pictures while inside.
    All the lighting I have sucks, so flashes might help - Especially off camera flashes :D
    So: Thanks for the unintentional video showcasing what seems to be a great product haha

    Great video! Just one point of clarification: when you shot with the Speedlight, you set up the camera on S priority? It happens a lot with me that when I shoot at the Auto setting (on the camera) with the external flash, the built-in flash on top of the camera pops up anyway, and both flashes fire. I guess the S or M setting on the camera should do?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post/feedback/question Paul:). The built-in flash should not activate in full auto mode if you have an external flash connected. If the flash is not on or not fully seated in the shoe, the built-in flash will activate. Shutter, aperture, and/or manual modes will work with an external flash and not activate the built-in flash. If shooting in shutter priority and using an external flash, keep the speed below the max sync speed which is typically around 1/200 of a second.

    How abt when you are shooting under open sky. What shld be the direction of light to use?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are outside and have daylight, you can use your flash as a fill flash ... put the flash in manual, use a very low power like 1/128, and point the flash at your subject ... you might also diffuse the flash using a tissue, etc.:).

    again, another great video. I got the regular old "precision" flash that came with the packaged deal when I purchased the 3500 on Amazon. Any major differences I should know about when using that flash. I'm hoping with my new 35mm 1.8 lens I can get away without using one. As usual, thanks again for all the help.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not familiar with the precision flash, however it never hurts to have one:). I try to avoid flash if possible but realize there are times that a flash is needed. Using a lens like the fixed 35 f/1.8 should really help in low light situations w/o flash:).

    Does anyone know how to make the flash be a warm colour? Do I eed a filter? Or maybe some sort of plastic cover?
    Great video :) Thanks

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Interesting, right?!:) In order to create a relatively warm looking flash, I have two suggestions: 1) change the white balance. Typically, white balance is set to auto. When taking a shot with flash, your camera may default to Flash white balance. If you move the white balance from auto to daylight, I suspect you will get a warmer image. If you shoot in raw, you can easily change the white balance in post processing using a tool like Lightroom:). 2) change the tone in post edit. When using a tool like Lightroom, you can quickly change the color, tone, etc.

    • @miguelcasasarrojo8135
      @miguelcasasarrojo8135 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alriiiight. So change the white balance! Ok will do. One more question, if I change the white balance but shoot in RAW then the white balance wont affect the image? Does the white balance only affect pictures that are being hot in JPEG?
      Thanks

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are on the right path!:) If you shoot in RAW, white balance can be easily modified without any loss to the image in post edit. If you shoot in JPEG, the white balance can still be modified albeit more difficult to recover. The camera will compress and store the image in JPEG, however the camera will save everything in RAW allowing you to make quick lossless changes in post edit - one of the many benefits to RAW:). I typically stay in auto white balance and let the camera decide (while shooting in RAW). If the camera got it wrong and/or the white balance looks off, I will make a slight/quick change in post edit. I recently created a video using Lightroom to post and reference white balance. Take a quick look as this might be of help: th-cam.com/video/4StJ6QmYvpQ/w-d-xo.html (jump straight to 7:00)

    Hey boss, it's me again. I just want to ask how the speedlight communicates with the camera? Thank you!

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi jason - speedlights have pins on the bottom plate that connect to the camera body in the hot shoe. those pins are used to communicate with the camera. if you use a canon flash on a nikon body, the flash may still fire, however the TTL (auto flash mode) will not work ... i have done this before and do not mind as i tend to use manual flash often:).

  • @sottheaphoeurng9044
    @sottheaphoeurng9044 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi sir. I'm using canon 6D mark too. I borrowed speedlite canon 580 ex ii. So how many trigger do I need to buy ? I saw some people put one trigger on camera and another one on the flash and some people use only one trigger. Why they do that ? Later I'm going to buy my own flash. Probably 470ex ai. Do I need to buy two trigger or not ?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you when you purchase a trigger system, it will come with two units ... one that mounts to the camera body and one that mounts to the flash. Some trigger systems will come with one base and multiple flash mounts. You definitely need to units regardless ... the one connected to the camera sends the signal and the one connected to the flash receives it:).
