    Just getting into this syncing buisness with my external flash, the flash itself is intimidating to me, so rarely use it. Your video was awesome, your a great instructor, and the flash cards were a very big help! I'm a visual person so they helped a great deal for me to understand the concept.

    Coming in to high speed sync not knowing anything about it, your simple note cards demo was excellent. I watched this video first, then about a dozen others on the topic and yours was the only one to actually explain what is going on and why the sync is needed. I know if I'd have only watched the other videos I would have walked away still wondering what high speed sync is and why it's needed. You taught so well that after watching this video once, I know the topic well enough to teach it to others without notes. Thanks!

    For D3XXX or D5XXX Nikon bodies or also canon, another trick to using flash (Without HSS because they don't support it) in daylight is to use an ND or even better a Variable ND filter to get the proper exposure.

    Great explanation of HSS. I believe the power output of the flash will be reduced in this mode. ¿Is there a calculation that can be made to determine the effective guide number in HSS. Thanks.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question/point regarding power when using HSS:). You might think the power would be reduced considering the flash must fire repeatedly to follow the speed of the shutter. Nonetheless, I believe the power remains the same but will need to research further:).

    Nicely done. I have a Neewer VK750 that I just bought. I cannot get HSS to work. Camera is a Nikon D850 set to 1/250 FP. The flash should then show an H on the screen. If I fire a shot, I get a black picture. I'm going to get a replacement.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post Tom:). Unfortunately, the VK750 does not offer HSS. The D850 is a great camera though:). I really like the 750 and have a couple which work great. If you want a HSS capable flash consider the K&F Concepts 882 ( amzn.to/2l944m1 ) which I used in this video.

    Thanks for the very clear video - being so knowledgeable plus experience with Nikon I wonder if you can help with an explanation: I have a D850 body, but my flash, Yongnuo 560 IV, does NOT support HSS. However, when on Silent Live View flash works perfectly at extremely high shutter speeds like 1/2000 sec. This is great, but looking online many forums say that this should not work. Just one thing though, if the flash is off camera and I use the Yongnuo 560 TX controller the flash does not trigger at all. I can't find an explanation of why this is, and makes me wonder if there is a different controller which would make it work perfectly like when it is on the camera... I am mystified so if you had the time to explain briefly I would be very grateful!!

  • @Hamidm123
    @Hamidm123 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As a newbie into the world of photography I have had this question for sometime. Hopefully you can clarify for myself and other people who may have the same question. Would a D3400 equipped with the BEST LENS money can buy take better pictures than a more top of the line camera (body) with an AVERAGE LENS (given the photographer is the same)

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome to the world of photography and thanks for the question!:) Hmmmmm, I have lots to say about this topic:). In short, the ultimate answer involves multiple factors/considerations. Without getting into lots of detail which may warrant a video:), I would say yes for the most part. Many photographers would say to invest in lenses and not bodies. If you had a really old body, I would say upgrade the body. If you had a relatively old body with relatively good specifications, I would say focus on the lens:).

    Good tutorial, thanks. I didnt get all. In the last demo there is a ashadow with hss, bigger and bigger. Shadow of what?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad to be of help!:) The shadow grows larger because the flash sync is not able to match the shutter speed. The max sync speed for the flash is 1/250 of a second. When I set the camera to shoot at 1/250 of second, the entire image sees the flash. When I increase the shutter speed, the flash is unable to keep pace without high speed sync enabled and the image only capture 1/250 seconds worth:).

    Hi there, I have a question about high speed sync. Let me start by saying that I've used HSS before, So I do understand how it works. However today I was doing a photoshoot and noticed an issue with the photo. I noticed that the top part was coming out a lot brighter than the button, even though I was using HSS to shoot. The shoot took placed during the day around 4pm when it was still bright but not overly sunny. The lens was using an F2.8 aperture. My plan was to use the fill flash to avoid shadows on my subjects face and using HSS so that I could use a faster shutter speed to avoid overexposing the image. With HSS both camera and flash can go as far as 1/8000 of a sec. any advise you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a problem:). I do not use HSS much (if fact, very little over the years:)). If you have lots of sun, dialed your ISO down to 100, opened your aperture because you want a nice soft background, and want to fill-in shadows, perhaps you could use HSS:). In this situation you could use a reflector as an alternative to casting light.

    So I can't take a portrait in a bright sunny day with my 50 mm 1.8G with a wide open f stop number and illuminate the model's face with fill flash when the sun is behind the model with my Nikon D3300 because it doesn't have high speed sync :( Sooo, what can I do to achieve a well lit subject without harsh shadows on it's face and a soft blurry background in that particular situation?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahhhhh yes, you have described a unique situation which is tough to manage without a high speed sync flash/body. How would I handle it? Either move the subject or possibly use an ND (neutral density) filter. An ND filter will allow you to create a darker scene which would allow for a wide open aperture and flash.

    Can you please let me know the significance of zoom option in flash which shows M/A. What to use when camera is in manual mode? Also when to use either of them?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The zoom option is activated/used in TTL mode (this is the auto mode). When you are in TTL/auto mode and zoom in/out with the lens, you should hear the lens zoom in/out to compensate as needed:).

    I think most TH-cam videos only cover hss without ANY mention of the dreaded fact that the humble speedlight doesn't work but at certain flash to subject distances.
    At least that's what I think the problem is. Of course, I may be wrong. I never know for sure. Can you help?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flash should still fire regardless of subject to flash distance, however the flash power will not carry too far so you may not get the fill light desired:).

    Can I use High Speed Sync on the Nikon SB-700 and the Nikon Z6ii ? Or does Nikon SB-700 has High Speed Sync capability ?

  • @gustavotinetti9320
    @gustavotinetti9320 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks. Beautiful explanation, but for me another and most important issue though it's in which mode should I use the TTL external flash with my Nikon 7200? I know its a simple question but its being my biggest problem so far! I tried all of them and with the only ones I can use the flash is when I put it in U1 or U2. It doesn't work whenever I put the M, S, A or P modes. Not even with the automatic or the scene mode. Would you enlighten me please? THANK YOU!

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post/question:). I typically adjust the flash power myself ... I set the flash > take a shot > inspect and adjust if needed. i believe TTL should work the same in all camera modes w/ exception to manual (although I could be wrong about manual mode). The flash and camera work together to create what the camera thinks is a properly exposed image when the flash is in TTL.

  • @alphonsosamasius7015
    @alphonsosamasius7015 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice guide as always. I wonder if there is other way to achieve the result you've shown in the demo (properly exposed object against the sky) without HSS flash?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the post/feedback!:) Yes, you could achieve similar results by increasing the aperture or if it still too bright, you could use a ND filter (th-cam.com/video/DY51QR1giGE/w-d-xo.html). ND filters are used to darken the scene to some extent. If you are able to increase the aperture enough to lower the shutter speed below the max sync speed, you should be in good shape although you will also lose some of the nice blurred background:).
