    5:25 As someone who used to watch it, let me explain. PJ masks is a Disney Jr. show about some kids who are normal people at day but, become superheroes at night.

    Project Plug and Play is genuinely really cool. I feel like a lot of people wouldn't think of Plug and Play games as _worth_ preserving, but they're still pieces of software that _somebody_ has created, and if we wanna preserve games, we should preserve as many as possible. Thank you for highlighting this, and for showing off a bunch of interesting titles throughout the month! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!

      I'm sure there's a way to do it with Windows shell scripts but I'm a little more familiar with file listing and filtering on Linux (and there were more resources when googling lol). I have Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) installed so I was able to mount my projectpnp folder in wsl and run those commands.

    I've been watching your stuff for years now and having your voice instead of text makes your sense of humor so much funnier than it already was, that and also just the much better production quality in general makes your more recent vids such a treat to watch, you're seriosuly underrated

    I think it's interesting you used a batch script to pick the list of games, that would've been my second guess after manually picking things. (don't tease me with that King Fishing (Apollo) don't get my hopes up like that /lh)
    This special was great, though. watched every short as it came out and it was a great time.

    I think the most interesting of the bootleg games are the Nice Code ones based off of various Atari and Intelevision games. A rather odd choice to have them basically officially port these games to NES which led them to reskin them into "original" games for Famiclones down the road. I can't decide which of those versions are more interesting: the original port that tries to emulate the look of the Atari and Intelevision or the reskins that make the games look more up to NES standard. Perhaps the later since it makes me wonder what if they kept the art style of the old games while updating the visuals, kinda like that one Atari collection on PC that had versions of Pong and Super Breakout with enhanced graphics. (I had that one as a teen.)

    • @PirateGameThing
      @PirateGameThing  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the reskinning process was pretty iterative! the intellivision font is especially noticeable in some games. in early hacks it's unchanged, and while they start trying to change the numbers later on, their chunkiness is still a dead giveaway

  • @Hijiri_MIRACHION
    @Hijiri_MIRACHION หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I thought the music from the Rush Hour segment was a remix from a Nice Code song, only to find out that they stole it for their games.
    How the heck were they able to get a copy of Yo! Noid?

    Mind if I ask, how are some of the backgrounds done? They appear to be of higher quality then the NES would typically allow?

    • @PirateGameThing
      @PirateGameThing  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Many of the games shown in the video are VT03 or VT369. These are expanded chips that allow for more colors among some other goodies. The columns style game shown at the beginning is UM6578, which is one of the earliest known examples of such enhanced chips, having been seen in plug & plays as early as 1997.

    I hope someone extracts the 2P version of Nightstalker from the Intellivision plug n play so I can play it on my NES via Everdrive. My uncle had that console and the original INTV version (which I have on PS2) is single player only. Same with the NES port of Scramble from the Konami plug n play

    • @PirateGameThing
      @PirateGameThing  หลายเดือนก่อน

      i believe *all* of the games you've mentioned here should be in Project Plug-and-Play. under "Unknown Developer -> Intellivision" for said intellivision game, under "JungleTac" for Scramble and Frogger, and "Speed Racer" is also by JungleTac but I don't remember what folder it's under in the archive. There's a directory listing text document included in there.

    • @PirateGameThing
      @PirateGameThing  หลายเดือนก่อน

      i was gonna say the default palette, but I think I *did* boost the colors because a newer build lowered the saturation or something
