Out of curiosity why would lubricating the brushes on the GRS semaphore cause wearing and does the same thing go for lubricating contacts on relays

The oil can cause dust to build up and wear down faster than if they were dry. Oiling the contacts of a relay wouldn’t have any negative effects, but it wouldn’t be beneficial also.
