- Who are Flapjack parents? Does anybody besides me cares? Idk but I may have found the answer regardless.
The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack its a rather lovely but inconsistent show, but I attempted to find some connection either way, so here's the result.

Did you know? The sky maid thing isn't random. It actually comes from an add on to the end of the little mermaid.
In the original, the mermaid willingly offers to get legs from the sea witch in order to court the prince. However, if she doesn't get him to love her in several days, the mermaid will turn to sea foam and die. Despite this, she becomes human but finds that the prince was with another woman already.
Saddened of her imminent death, she goes over to the edge of the boat and finds her sisters there to greet her. They all used to have hair, but they all became bald because they traded their hair for a magic dagger to give to the little mermaid. Their reason? It will save her, because if she stabs the prince to death with the dagger, his blood will touch her feet and turn her legs back into a fin, thus preventing her from turning into sea foam. The little mermaid tries to do this, but can't bring herself to stab the prince and instead kisses him before leaping into the sea and dying.
That was the original ending, but people didn't like it and years later a new ending was added on where the mermaid turns into an angel, or a "sky maid" after she dies because she did a good deed by refusing to kill the prince.

@@chiot2875 The last part was tacked on for some behavior incentive. I kinda like the death too, as the sky maid thing just seems random. It might have to do with mermaids not having souls in the original story, though.
@@squeaktheswan2007 I remember that. The explanation given is that the mermaid liked the prince but he wasn't her real reason for wanting to be human. It was that humans had an afterlife they went to after dying while mermaids did not (mermaids lived for 200+ years before turning to seafoam and ceasing to exist). As a angel or Skymaid if she watches over the people of earth for 200 years then she would be admitted into the afterlife and wouldn't just cease to exist.

@Loki Aesir It's hard to summarize, but basically, in the original, the mermaid can't bring herself to kill the prince so she becomes a sky maid.
You've got some good analysis skills! To me, the most interesting detail in Flapjack's origin was Bubby's reaction to Flapjack asking where he came from. She looks very nervous before telling the story. Is it possible that the real story is something darker, and she quickly made up the origin we saw to throw flapjack off? It does feel a little too perfect and romanticized. Just some food for thought.

I miss this show. I hate the fact that everything is censored now in cartoons...
In flapjack they use so many different art styles. Realism, cartoony, claymation, and so much more
Honestly I dont think cartoons are being censored. Otherwise, flapjack wouldnt have gotten past at all. They PULLED some shit on this show for sure. I really think it's because the audience for avant garde toons just wasnt wide enough for cartoon network to seem it profitable- or if it was, they definitely weren't browsing or cared about cartoon network.
@@ohokay4663 well remember during the flapjack adventure time era Cartoon Network had a sudden shift, *forgot their own name* and started assailing viewers with the mega cringe ‘REAL CN’ shows with live action non sense. It’s Cartooooooon Network how do you lose yourself that badly 🤯 then eventually they came back to their senses and now do their best to never look back/reflect on any part of their past good or bad :c

IK he works for disney but maybe they should put alex hirsch in charge of a CN show or someone with his style. Flapjack genetically has to have a parent with blue eyes at least. A brown eyed mother could give him a 50/50 chance of having blue eyes. It's more likely that both parents have blue eyes given his hair.
His hair is blond which is recessive. A brown haired parent and blond parent is very likely to produce a brown haired baby. It's more likely both parents are blond. A blond baby from a brown hair parent and blond parent is possible but less likely. He has both unlikely characteristics. His parents are most likely both blond hair/blue eyes.
My theory is his parents were shipwrecked, or escaped from a larger boat that was possibly sinking. They decided to save their baby, give him a chance, so they put him on the bed of seaweed. They themselves would be too much weight and couldn't hold on. Both most likely drowned a mere few days at most before Bubby got there, otherwise Flapjack would've died. Flapjack was calm and not starving.
Actually, that was my original theory but sadly that plotline is barely touched in the show.
So, I wanted to work more with what is given by the creators rather than going with a safer and more normal bet for a storyline, but yeah still pretty good analysis tho.

Actually, if my memory serves me well there was a small theory going around stating that stormalong harbor was actually one of the lost islands in adventure time.

@@iprobablysuck9107 Pendleton Ward was a writer on _Flapjack_ from 2008-2009 and _Adventure Time_ Premiered on Cartoon Network in April of 2010. So _Adventure Time_ and _Flapjack_ did air new episodes alongside one another albeit very briefly as _The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack_ concluded in August of 2010.
It's a very interesting timeline of events when you look into things on Wikipedia. Thorup Van Orman, the creator of Flapjack had previously worked under Craig McCracken alongside _Chowder_ creator C.H. Greenblatt on _The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy._ On his own show, Van Orman hired _Regular Show_ Creator J.G. Quintel as a creative director and Ward as a writer and storyboard artist.
While they never had any canonical crossovers or have been confirmed to exist in the same universe, all the creative minds behind the second generation of Cartoon Network shows all collaborated on one another's shows. You could argue that spirituality they share the same cinematic universe. Hell, the Craig McCracken connection gives them a tie to the first generation of Cartoon Network shows.
What I'm saying is... Cartoon Network should really make another FusionFall game.

As a kid adopted by my grandparents, I related to Flapjack a lot. It didn’t matter I wasn’t biologically related to my grandma (step grandma) but I grew up calling her “Mama”, because that’s what she is. My mom.

My Theory is that the Mermaid queen put him to sleep somewhere because it was bed time. However Bubby found him, thought he was drowning and acidently kidnapped him

-Where does he come from? Idk but it's implied he spent part of his childhood either in stormalong or in a nearby harbor before sailing away.
-What is he a captain of? Not sure but he has an official title and the english royal navy does exist in this universe.
-Why is he a castaway? His toxic personality and poor work ethic mostly but is also implied that his weird blue ugly appearance its product of a curse.
But hey what do I know, you say boobie instead of bubbie and your credibility sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

He mentioned living on a boat with his mother when telling the true story of how ge he lost his left hand. Then, he lost his "sitting muscle" when he was a cabin boy being harassed by sailors. He definitely grew up on Stormalong Harbor because of his trolley flashback, too
Another trait that you might of missed was that Flapjacks blood is apparently a cure for bubonic plague since when he leaves the port to go to the plague island with K'nuckles II, a plauge rat. Everyone gets sick because they've been using his blood to keep themselves healthy.

The best thing about Flapjack as a series is that the show's setting is just so innately weird and surreal that I honestly am willing to believe Flapjack was probably born under circumstances just as odd

My very dark and weird headcanon is that he's L'il Gideon's baby brother (from Gravity Falls), because they have the same voice actor. Gideon, angry that his parents had another baby, used a spell he learned from the journal to send Flapjack back in time in the middle of the ocean, trying to kill him. Gideon's mom is so traumatized that she doesn't talk anymore.
Bubbie used to talk when she was younger. Check out the episode called " Bubbies tummy ache"

No, Aphrodite WAS married to Hephaestus but she had many affairs(most commonly with Ares) and never in my life (I'm a huge mythology nut as well as being a Hellenistic witch) heard that Aphrodite was Poseidon's wife. Poseidon's wife is Amphitrite, goddess of the sea. And they did infact have marriages in Greek myths. (Also if I came across as rude, that was not my intention I'm just trying to educate people)

When I was a kid I imagined both parents were travellers/adventurers or anything related to travelling, like cartography. To my understanding Flapjack's earth resembles a supercontinent type of geography. Flapjack was probably in too much danger because of the lifestyle. Plus arent rations so strict when youre months on board? Maybe the mother couldnt produce milk.

5:55 Flapjack got his name because 'Booby' came across a sailor making flapjacks one day. So her knowing his name doesn't mean anything. She is just an all knowing God.
