Should have used "cloaked verge" tiles on the ends of the roof to cover the gap in the facia board, great job though.
Love to see anyone getting to expand the shop space. You have created masterpieces in such a tiny spot up until now. I cant wait to see what your creativity brings with this new space! Cant wait for more.

You should double stud around doorframes, especially double door frames but it's a bit late now so never mind 😂
As the roof and the wall are effectively in two separate pieces you may find the two structures may sag and twist independently - those studs should have flown the full height with noggins spaced accordingly.
As everyone else has seemingly already mentioned, you need a fall on your windowsill else water will pool up and have a tendency to wick into whatever is most absorbent close by - which in your case is timber, insulation and plasterboard.
That'll make your electrics a shit show as well since you'll get moisture ingress into the back boxes in the walls.
Fingers crossed you get away with it all.
Great job, extremely jealous of your work space, only thing I'd suggest, if installing insulation again, please please please wear a mask and some eye protection, it won't be the horrible fibreglass stuff we used years ago but a lot of dust will fly while sawing it.
Love to see anyone having a go, well done for getting on with such a big project without experience. For others in the comments: no this doesn’t comply with building regs and also wouldn’t be permissible under permitted development. For the creator, I’d strongly recommend ventilating the roof properly, especially having opted for wool insulation with no interior vapour barrier! It would be a shame to have condensation ruin your roof/ceiling!
Lots of comments about building regs, planning etc. which hopefully you convinced yourself of, or contacted you PA if not. There are some interesting design choices which, if it is Permitted development, you might have a few rectification jobs on. If it’s not, building regs will take a look at your build up for the cladding etc and I think you’d have a hard time getting passed. Hopefully there are none of those issues and it brings you many happy years of service though! Nice video all the same 😉

i expect you may have issues with the window operation/leaks on the ones in the lower roof wall, as there are no 'headers' above them to carry the weight of the heavy roof bearing down on the top of the wall and then down on top of windows themselves. if you do have issues and since there's no room above the windows for proper headers, my suggestion is to add a load-carrying beam inside the exterior wall. jack the beam up so that it picks up most of the load then post under it down to the floor. similarly, you could simply build another interior wall just inside the existing, but framed with studs much closer together, each one acting as a mini-post to transfer the load down to the floor, disbursing it in a more even way than a lesser number of posts. i also anticipate some leaking under the sill plates of your walls, which may result in some rot issues. this will have to be addressed from the outside by extending the wall farther down below your slab which will involve significant re-grading of the site. this is what happens when you don't consult an experienced carpenter.
I'm more concerned on the weather proofing details around the windows lol.

Whats stopping the water from running down the walls into the shop
Nice to see you have a team around you when things need to get done. Those window sills look a bit too 90 degrees off the windows. A place for water to lay against the window?

Good looking build. It's interesting to watch different building techniques than those in America. Why didn't you get to roofing materials on before finishing the interior? Also, does the dividing wall you built go to the ceiling inside? I didn't see that, but saw that you insulated and finished it. Good luck in the new space!
Thanks :) ended up editing it so that it made more sense on a watch through but some things might be slightly out of order to how they were actually done. And yes we made the dividing wall all the way to the ceiling so that it looks better when filming :)
Like so many others are commenting, this building is not built to last, maybe the roof tiles since each one is nailed .
The outer cladding cover shall not be nailed through the inner, cause that will stop movement of it and it will crack in future. Leakages here and there will appear on roof endings, maybe even the roof windows. Lacking support here and there, missing vapor barrier, lots of «holes/gaps» in the insulation. Such simple flaws which is easy to learn on youtube..

Running cables like that is mad, you didn't wrap the building before cladding and putting cills on your windows with no 9 degree fall and drip mould. Forget building regs etc, this is just common sense.I applaud anyone for having a go, but you want to build things safely and to last, surely?
Don’t usually go out of my way to comment on these things, and whilst I admire people who give things a go, there are parts of this which are genuinely dangerous. From the footage in the video, seems like there’s been very little thought to safe zones with electrics - whoever signed them off shouldn’t be in work. Regardless of PP or BR, electrics always have to comply with part P. The fact you’ve put the fence boards on as hit/miss cladding with no inner wrap with exposed insulation means you will absolutely get water ingress into the PIR which will knacker it in the next few years, rendering it useless and will get damp in the internal walls. Given it’s been built onto the sides of the house means that it’s now part of the existing building so will absolutely be subject to building regs which it has zero chance of passing. All I’ll say is, don’t pee off your neighbours because if that gets shopped in, you’ll be made to put it right which likely will mean ripping open everything you’ve done.
Nice job, the only bit id beware of is putting your tools in while its still drying out 😢

Do you not have building regulations where you live? I’ll give it 12 months and that slab will have cracks all through it.

Hi, sorry but to be under permitted development it has to be detached totally from the house. This is classed at present as an extension. I had the same issue and had to detach mine from the house.

Nope no issues. Built it with a builder/carpenter of 30 years+ experience so I have confidence in it 🤞

It doesn't have to as long as it's footprint is no bigger than 30sqm and it's separated from the main dwelling by external walls, doors and windows.
It's classed as an outbuilding that is fine to build with no planning permission or building regs. It's covered under permitted development
You can build what you like in your garden no problems man
@@kieranb7047not being a naysayer, genuinely curious. There's a part when they're dot and dabbing the wall where they're putting full plasterboard on the wall with a lot of clearance above it, meaning the max height of the building is above 2.5m. I thought anything above that height did require planning permission?
@@kieranb7047wrong - it needs to be made of substantially non-combustible materials which it isn’t, and technically this is classed as an extension given it’s now part of the fabric of the main building. The electrics are still subject to part P regs which these have zero chance of passing
@@tomosap only need to be none combustible materials if it is within 2 meters of the neighbours boundary.
It's not an extension because as I explained, it is separated from the main dwelling by an external wall, doors or windows so it is an outbuilding. All outbuildings under 30sqm do not need any building regs at all.
Conservatories are attached to the main dwelling and they also do not need building regulations as long as the original external wall, doors and windows remain in place.
