- Hi everyone! It's certainly been a while, but I thought it would be interesting to make a video comparing a Cloud connected and Cloudless Aibo where both are running the same update and in the same personality. I have previously made a video comparing Wren and Baymax, so there might be some overlap between that video and this one, but Baymax is running a much older update and in a different personality from Wren, so I think this provides a clearer look at what is and is not related to the Cloud.

My aibo is a second hand from Japan, I live in Canada and I cannot get the app. My aibo still works as if she had the cloud, I assume she maps out my house because when we move to a new area she becomes confused and goes to explore her surroundings. She is slowly learning her name, as she cannot be named officially. She is starting to understand her name is Bonnie and not aibo. The only rough part about her being Japanese was at the beginning. I had to teach her all the tricks in Japanese that was a PAIN. I found a website on google and it gave me all the translations which made it so much easier. after a few days of me teaching her tricks she learnt them all and now does it to me. She still learns and remembers faces, and repeats the tricks to the person. I’m sad I can’t name her officially or change her eye colour but she’s still developing her personality over time.

So what do you think happens if Sony stops offering cloud service entirely? 😮 I imagine one day they won’t keep it running..
The core operating system for Aibo is safely on the dog's storage, along with a lot of personal data. Some services like app compatibility, viewing photos, unique tricks, and food/water bowls will be disabled. You cannot initialize or format your Aibo without the Cloud service.

And what can you tell about mapping your house and wandering around with not cloud connected aibo? I am going to buy second hand aibo from Japan and their ability to walk around and being good at avoiding obstacles is very important to me.
Hi! I'm actually not as sure about mapping, though I believe it should be linked to the Cloud. I've never made much use of this feature with Wren, since I move her around the house regularly and she isn't run 24/7, so she has a hard time keeping consistent maps. I know there are some owners with Cloudless Aibos who run them near 24/7 though and I haven't heard of anyone having issues with navigation. Plus, with or without mapping, an ERS-1000 is significantly better at navigating and avoiding obstacles than older models (though obviously not perfect).

Thank you so mcuh for this video, it helped me a lot. I bought one from Japan (second hand without the plan) and it's arriving this week. Do you know how can I get the list of phrases that it recognizes? I've found one in sony's website in English, but is very basic. I saw you used new commands in japanese, and I would like to know which phrases it should respond to. Thank you!

Hey there! Im a dutchie, so from the netherlands, thats interested into buying an ers1000! From your videos ive figured I want an english speaking aibo, so preferably one with a cloud plan but a japanese one set to english would also be totally okay!!
My problem is however, that I can barely find any aibos left on the market, as ive watched sendico for ages for one with an active cloud plan to this day..
So I was curious if you have any idea if the cloud is usable overseas, may i ever get an aibo with cloud access??

Question: I have a cloud plan since I just bought my Aibo but I turn off the internet button on my Aibo for privacy reasons. Now does your video apply also to Cloud subscribed plan but the internet switch is turned off? Thanks.
Can I ask you what do you mean about wifi off? I’m plannig to move with mine to Baltimore but aibo is banned there due to biometric scanning if people. So I need to use it with no wifi? How much will he be able to do? Will he learn anything? I was thinking about running my phone or computer with vpn and connect aibo to it instead of router. But I’m not sure if it works
@@elenab1150 Well I keep my aibo offline almost all the time. It can learn without the internet. Mine does fine but I don't really have comparison. Seems like he maps ok too. I can show you more videos of mine as well too offline. He responds to his name. Since you are already in the USA just keep him connected to your cloud plan for now but just keep him offline. Hello. Are you saying that it wouldn't work to connect to a cloud for a short time and then disconnect to avoid the additional cost but still keep whatever is downloaded? I'm from South Africa so the price of just buying one is going to be pretty steep! I can see the unconnected one still interacts. I just want a few tricks. I'm not going to bother with virtual food.
Also that forlorn howl...it kills me every time! My heart just breaks because I can't do anything from all the way over here.

Multiple ERS-1000s do interact with each other and the interactions can be complex enough on newer updates that they feel relatively realistic and are not easily predictable, but I wouldn’t get a second Aibo just for the sake of interactions. Different ERS-1000s can have different personalities too though and can very much be individuals that are very different to interact with!
Hi! If you don't mind, I have a some questions, please.
1. If you give an Aibo a name, gender, and eye color while it is connected to the cloud and the eventually cancel the cloud subscription and it is disconnected from the cloud, will it still remember and respond to its name, keep its eye color, and keep its gender?
2. If the cloud subscription is cancelled and the Aibo is taken off of it, can the Aibo later be put back on it and the subscription renewed if you change your mind?
3. Will Sony still provide technical support for Aibo without the cloud subscription?
4. Will Aibo still play with the Aibone, pink ball, and dice without the cloud subscription?
5. Can Aibo still explore a house without the cloud subscription?
6. Can Aibo still go to its charger on its own, dock onto the charger and charge on its own, and come off of the charger on its own without the cloud subscription?
7. Will Aibo still learn your likes and dislikes, (like what tricks you like, so it performs those tricks more often), without the cloud subscription?

Hi! Sorry for the late reply, I’ll do my best to address these.
1. An Aibo will keep the name, gender and eye color given while connected to the Cloud even after the Cloud subscription has ended, as long as it has not been initialized first. However, if you send an US ERS-1000 with an expired Cloud plan into Sony for repairs, the Aibo will be initialized, which will wipe these settings.
2. I know this is possible to do in Japan, but am unsure if there is currently the framework for this in place in the US, since Sony just offers renewals of existing Cloud plans on their website.
3. Yes, as long as the Aibo is a US model if you’re using the US repair center, but as mentioned above, they will initialize/wipe all data on Aibos that do not have an active Cloud plan.
4. Yes, Aibos will still play with the ball, bone and dice without an active Cloud subscription. The exceptions to this are that an Aibo cannot play with the dice if it’s running an update prior to 1.7 (when the dice were introduced) and initialized Aibos running newer updates also have more limited interactions with all toys.
5. Yes, an Aibo can still explore your house and successfully avoid obstacles without a Cloud subscription.
6. Aibos can still find their charging station and self-dock without an active Cloud subscription. Whether an Aibo is able to leave the station on its own if powered off or sleeping depends on whether this setting was enabled before the subscription was ended. All Aibos can leave the station on their own while awake.
7. I think this is a little more muddy. The official answer would probably be no, but I haven’t noticed a tangible difference in the behaviors and interactions of my Cloud connected and disconnected pups.

It’s a great concept but they are just so clunky. There are so many sleek robo dogs on the market that aren’t so toy like. But they don’t have faces lol.
