I don't agree, the storyline maybe be great (and this trailer is awesome) but the show is too slow and has a lot of things that make sense. Like when that lady left for the shop in a middle of recipe and left her newly acquainted yoga classmate alone in her house.

I've read the book, one of the rarest books that caught my interest and kept me wanting to read more and more to know what happens. I do not know if the series follow the book to 100%, but it left a permanent mark in me that i will never forget. I would suggest it to anyone, but be ready for it, as you might have seen in the trailer, there are A LOT OF EMOTIONS, and you keep craving to see what's gonna happen next.
Is season 1 complete whole book or few chapters ?
@@xoorav6112 ummm I'd say a chapter but it's unfortunately not following the book to the 100%. The book had 4-5 split stories that changed from story to story every chapter (~10-15pages) the movie focused way more on the creators side which is sad because I found the other chapters (stories) way more interesting

Yea my exact thought. This is not so original.. I believe SOULMATES are more like single episodes with different narrative perspectives and I loved it. Maybe here they tackle this 'matching tech' with a deeper understanding through modern society?
Soulmates ripped off the idea from the author John mares and didn’t give him any thing for it. A lot of people were angry about that so I guess this is the solution.
'The One' should have been a single Black Mirror episode. Instead it feels like Netflix just wanted to draw the story out and bank as much as they can. Way too much fluff.

@@ddcrowley yeah i read the book not long ago, and besides Ellie (the scientist) I don't recognize any of the characters and the plots, if you go the IMDB page, none of the characters are on it. I think they just based themselves of the premise of the book. Which is sad because I loved the book and was looking forward to watch this. I'll still watch it tough haha.

I watched it in one sitting and didn't mind it all. It reminded me of a French series where humans could get their loved ones who die, have their souls transfer into someone else's body. Hey, we all live to believe in things that aren't real.

The AMC one is more like Black Mirror, but it's very good. This looks more on the mystery/drama side.
I hadn't heard of that show and it sounds interesting. I think the concept of finding your soul mate is similar but this is a thriller more than anything (unless they change it). It's based on the thriller novel of the same name by John Marrs

It's based on a book by John Marrs. The book is great. Really interesting and a fun fast read. This doesn't actually look like the book at all. I'd recommend the book over this.

John Marrs is my auto-buy author now. Hope his other novel, The Passengers, will get series adaptation OR adapted as one of Black Mirror’s episode.

I thought the antagonist of this show looked quite similar to Jessie Ware in her video for Wildest Moments, mainly in the way her hair was styled and how she was dressed, only to find out that they're real-life sisters. Very trippy!

To all the people saying it’s crap, well: it’s not.
It’s actually very well-written and the narration is so complex and layered that your brain will always be busy trying to discover something new, a shows rich in suspence.
And yet it combines dystopian sci-Fi elements with the thriller genre.
It’s nothing like black mirror and you won’t feel as watching an episode from it.
Funny how so many in the comments have instantly written it off without seeing it and are bitching about how shit Netflix is, when its actually a decent show lmao
I read this book a couple years ago and it was fantastic! I flew through it in a couple days. This series looks a bit different though, doesn't seem to stay with the storyline of the book.The book was fast paced and very interesting, no need to change it all around - hoping they didn't do this.

I really watched this because I believe something like this is coming to our existence.
I am guessing most people here who loved the show haven't read the book because when i tried to watch this i got soo disappointed they focused to much on the creators and removed the stories of the other couples in the books ( they were five with one of them being the creator but all had the same amount of story ) but here even the serial killer story was nowhere to be seen.
The book definitely did a way better job at portraying the problems and possibilities that might come when matching with someone as we had variety which was what i was interested in when i read the premise unlike the tv show

I'm about halfway through the series. Pretty good show. Solid 7/10 so far. Definitely has some "Black Mirror" vibes and is similar to one of the episodes, but not exactly the same. I like some of the characters, dislike some of the characters, and has decent acting and scripting. I'll judge more and review more once I've seen the entire series. But a few things stick out to me:
-The brothers Matheus and Fabio..if they are from the island of Tenerife why are they speaking continental Portuguese? Tenerife one of the Spanish Canary Islands. They are both played by decent actors, whom I learned, are Portuguese so makes sense that they would speak European Portuguese. Did the producers of The One overlook this and assume they were from the Azores perhaps? Not saying it's impossible that a couple Portuguese brothers don't come from Tenerife but the choice seemed odd to me.
-Sofia's father, the repentant alcoholic absentee dad and homophobic bigot, seems to have a slight British accent when speaking Spanish. I can still understand the Spanish, but I noticed it.
-There are numerous problems of course caused by the existence of this application's technology. But as an observer rather than as someone having been in relationships, the problems lie more with those not matched than those who are (Hannah and Mark, with respect to Megan. Hannah is completely toxic IMHO)

Just finished last night and I have to say, I really enjoyed this show. Rebecca (Hannah Ware) was excellent. She was stellar the entire season. I loved everything about her. Shoutout to the Costume Designer Jo Slater. The fashion was SPOT ON!!!!!!! The Set design/staging was also beautiful. Everything was so nice to look at. The character Hannah was pretty annoying. Mark was great though. Overall I really loved the show. I cant wait until season 2.

1. To everyone talking about baldness, unless the person doesn't grow hair at all they could get it from the arm, leg, anywhere else.
2. Some issues I could see (happening in the show) are couples that are happy, take the test & realize they aren't "the one" for each other and may cause conflict. Interesting.
3. I think the concept of the own is silly. You can be compatible with hundreds of people
Sure, you can be compatible with loads of people, but the idea of the book (and series, I'm guessing) is "why settle for simply compatible when you can have THE ONE" and yeah, your #2 is a big part of the conflict where people are together for decades and get the test to "prove" that they match only to match with someone else.

This is originally a book by John Marrs. Such a good read. Judging so far, they've changed everything good about the original story and gone for something less. Hate it when they do that! Recommend the book definitely. Characters stories and the plot are so much better. (Although the series is still enjoyable for what they've done with it.)
