Worse comes to worse Axle Surgeons can install a new spindle without removing the banjo, they are nationwide and very reasonable. On another note, when I was first getting into to trucking, I saw a couple get killed by a wayward set of tires, it was particularly sad for me because I knew the truck driver well, he was never the same after that and it's etched in my mind. That was in the early 80's and I can remember it like it was yesterday, but that's how all the fatals I've witnessed are, I try not to look anymore, for that reason.

A simple trick I learned over 40 years a go from a old timer and you will never have that happen again. When the hubs are back on top off the rear end till it is full park the truck on a angle or drive the truck up on a 6 inch block with the wheel you removed on the low side let it sit for 10 minutes the oil run and the differential housing down into the wheel hub. If you have done this on both sides of the truck just repeat it on the opposite side the oil will run in to the other end.

Now, if I were gonna break down, that would be THE PLACE & TIME to have it...at a truck stop and across the road from a repair shop. The axle guy did you a GOOD DEED! Good stuff! 🤩 I guess it was an oversight, but it does happen. Count your blessings...a rolling axle assembly is dangerous and jaw dropping! I’ve see it TWICE in my life and it’s nothing I like remembering. It didn’t happen out on the road, so you were BLESSED! Well, the Pete goes to another old truck lover who will do some more to it and maybe use it or pass it onto another driver. Good stuff! Here it is...New Years Eve...Happy New Year.🥳

I work at a construction company. We mainly use dump trucks & various equipment doing excavating, grade work, and etc. They have 5 or 6 road tractors and there all 2000 or older but pretty nice trucks. There's 3 mechanics that keep everything going and serviced. With that being said I've seen that happen twice & both times the hub was full and everything else at correct levels before heading out. Im with you its bad but could happen to anyone, thats part of our line of work. Main thing is no one got hurt and you was fortunate enough to be somewhere you could work on it without needing a tow. Plus by the Grace of God that man was there in the parking lot. Thats a blessing in itself. Im definitely looking him up and saving his info for future use. Thats why I love Tennessee, I've been to several states and very few have people that are still down to earth, good hard working people willing to help others in need like there is around Tennessee. People like that are hard to come by now & days.
