Prior to free agency rumors circulated that 28 year old Aaron Ekblad may be on the trade block as he is a pending free agent next offseason due for a big raise on a cap strapped team. We can't let our amazing draft picks rot on the vine in GR. They need to be challenged to grow not just played in GR. Hopefully the GR team will be consistent and competitive all season next year. They have an amazing team for next year. Free agency is now too expensive for the future of the Wings.

If Yzerman would acquire him that's only in a relatively short term deal not more than 2/3 years as ASP Would be ready to make the jump on that Time line so to me pretty unrealistic by the way but who knows..

You think Ekblad is anywhere near the same level of conversation as McDavid? There is a very real chance FLA could trade Ekblad and Detroit is one of the few teams that has the assets and cap space to make it work. If you don't like the topic, no one is forcing you to listen.
Honestly, I think a big problem we have, which isn't exclusive to us as Wings fans, is overvaluing our prospects. Do we have guys knocking on the door? Sure we do. That doesn't mean they're not expendable. There might be two or three guys we absolutely will not trade at this time. But the rest of those guys, likely the ones not named Danielson, Nygard, or Kasper? Expendable.
I don't think we have a chance to get Ekblad... but not because I want to hold on to every card in our hand. I don't think we have a chance because I don't think we're willing to part with anyone they want.
Nice observation. I think half the reason you acquire a thousand picks in a rebuild isnt to develop then all for your team, but to also use them as trade pieces.

@@walexander8378No that's not because that means Dylan Larkin would be under that.. 22- 25 you have a good idea of the player you are but still figuring things out learning how to utilize your skills who is fullest to help your team win.. full of hope, spark and upside.. and actually I believe at about age 26-27 you begin to hit your prime.. ( for most players) like, around 30 years old, you should be defined and in peak vet form where you're striding and gliding.. between 30-35 I'd say🤔.. age 36 is usually the age (depending on player, of course ) btw is likely the start of a slow decline.. around 38-39 you are at your last stage of the player you are.. and you're pretty much on the team on a likely vet minimum and serves more as a player's coach and giving wisdom to the younger guys ..39-41 you're likely on your last deal of any team you're on.. heading out to into retirement
