Top 5 American players in Red Wings history
To celebrate the fourth of July we are going to take a look back at the top 5, in no particular order, American players in Red Wings history. Chris Chelios and Reed Larson are slam dunks having played a decade each with Detroit, but after that? Who knows. Tenures are often short and have varying degrees of success. Do any current Red Wings make the list? #LGRW

Vladimir Tarasenko is a Detroit Red Wing! | Robby Fabbri traded to the Ducks | Tyler Motte signs
มุมมอง 10K7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
The Red Wings finally made an impact signing for their season next year, getting Vladimir Tarasenko on a 2-year deal. Tarasenko has insanely good finishing ability and helps to replace much of the offense the team lost through free agency. To make the signing happen, Detroit traded Robby fabbri and a conditional 4th to the Anaheim Ducks for a goaltending prospect to shed his $4M cap hit. They a...

Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings made zero moves on day 2 of free agency, adding to the angst many Red Wings fans are feeling. Yet despite there being no moves made, there was no indication that he was done either. When looking at the new defensive core and the goalie room it is clear work is left to be done. Detroit got better on the margins by signing Cam Talbot, Erik Gustafsson, Christian Fischer and a flurry of AHL caliber players today, possibly opening the door for the much coveted youth movement. But whiffing on big impact veterans such as Steven Stamkos to compliment said youth could also result on a slide back from their previous season point total, an Yzerman Era first. He didn't score many goals, and he was a part of the the declining years, but he played 8 seasons with the Wings, one of my favorite players from the post Cup years: Drew Miller. Not a top 5, but definitely should be an honorable mention. So incredibly hard working, defensively responsible forward playing on one of the best third lines in hockey at the time.

Berggrens problem is that he is not offensively to be a top 6 forward, and not good enough defensively to be a bottom 6 player. Verano has filed for arbitration and that would open the buyout window (Holl) and no one will trade for assets that don't have contracts. I personally think that Danielson will win a spot in training camp and center the 2nd line. Kasper is another possibility. The other problem is the number of players with movement clauses. I fully expect Stevie to move some depth players before the season starts.

Berggren is not being weaponized properly. He always gets stuck on the last line with less than average minutes, without good wingers. He 100% will be better than Veleno without question.

They're gonna miss Sprong. Tarasenko makes up for the lost production of Ghost. Gustafson makes up for the lost defense of Walman. Bonus Kane makes up the lost offense of Walman and some of Sprong. But there's still that little bit of production gone. But I think there's wo much room for improvement for Husso and the backup that there's still a good possibility they improve.

I think Kane is showing some loyalty as the Wings gave him an opportunity that worked with the players, coach, management and trainers/medical. I also believe he likes the Alex D fit and the VT signing they played together in NY. Detroit is allowing his playing style. I believe if he went somewhere else he would produce as well.

I was at a game, I think at the Joe, against LA... Rogie Vachon in net.. Larson let's a shot go from center ice.. Vachob never moved.. Never saw it... Another quick story... Larson was given a penalty shot and he decided to wind up from the circle and let one rip.. Didn't score on that.. Met him a few times in the Olymoia room.. Super nice guy.. HUGE j hands

Excellent list. I started watching the Red Wings as a kid when Reed Larson and John Ogrodnick were on the dead wings. Reed Larson was a beast. Not only great offensively, but great defensively as well. He blocked a lot of shots back in the days when guys didn’t really do that much. Brian Rafalski was another great defenseman. Kind of underappreciated nowadays. Doug Brown scored some clutch goals for us in the playoffs. In 2002, when Canada won the gold in USA won the silver, at the end of the game when everyone left the ice, Steve Yzerman, Brendan Shanahan, Chris, Chelios, and Brett Hull Stood arm and arm at Center ice to take a picture . 100% and Swedish, as a Canadian Red Wings fan it sucks hearing these guys say they hope Canada's cupless drought continues, they would rather a divison rival like Florida win than Edmonton. Yzerman and Howe are Canadian and 2 of the best players in history, played their entire carrers in the NHL for Detroit. Red Wings are truly a global team, Seider from Germany, Kasper from Austria, Brandsegg-Nygard from Norway, the sphere of influence is wide and many kids all around the world are growing up cheering for the Wings. My Top 5 Red Wings from other countries: Canada: Howe, Yzerman, Delvecchio, Lindsey, Shanahan. honorable mentions to Bowman, Sawchuck, Osgood, The Grind Line Russia: Fedorov, Datsyuk, Konstantinov, Larionov, Kozlov Sweden: Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Kronwall, Franzen.

It worked in the past becaase both of their foot speed were plus, but now they just slow enough that they get bullied by larger defence hounds. Theyre just too small to be effective even with Larkin carrying the load in the middle.

The Wings have a bad taste in their mouth from last year. They will improve! As Yzerman has said, we want a team that wins, not just make it to the playoffs. So can someone help me out with something here, 🤔 so in today's new NHL power teams like the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers especially from a few seasons ago able to have as many good players as you do on their roster.. even at the Vegas Golden Knights as well.. I'm saying with like the way contract is and with the cap.. what is it because of the driveway and because they're young guys are already taking that early leap therefore they don't have to spend as much.. because about three of their players are on the rookie contracts or something like that and a lot of the other song free agents are on good deals or something?? .. like how are things like that able to afford so many good players and keep them for like a few years at a time?.. you know what i mean??... Just trying to see if that's what Stevie's trying to set us up for in a couple of seasons,.. where were able to just go on a fruit splash and get like 2-3 STUDS in one offseason and be that ELITE team..🤔 Thank you to whoever can help 🙏

Well Florida is losing players as we speak because of the cap. Montour just left. Great defenceman. Edmonton has half their cap tied up in forwards. They got lucky their goaltending held up with a rookie. Vegas plays the system with injury reserve. Keeping good players out all season and then playing them in the playoffs. No salary cap in the playoffs. Their payroll was 100 million come playoff time. A team can only hold on to great players for so long. Tampa Bay just lost Stamkos because of age and money. Yzerman's plan of long term success really isn't sustainable in today's NHL but he's gonna try

They should be at least as good now but I think they have a higher ceiling possible - it really will depend heavily on whether Raymond can pick up where he left off and whether Kane or Tarasenko don't lose a step - that happens and they should be improved significantly.
