It is hard for me to think there isn’t sufficient talent in the QB room today. From reports I am aware of the arm talent is not the issue all the way up and down the four of them. Foot work, eyes and decision making are mentioned…and that is coaching. Their talent made them attractive to coaches and recruiters and their production on the field put them in orange and blue. Stop looking to the horizon and work to make these men QBs other teams want. WDE!
I feel confident that if something happens and PT doesn’t work out or God forbid gets hurt that Hank Brown has continued to work, study film and that he will be ready if his number is called!
Great convo guys. You guys did a great job of explaining why Hugh decided to stick with Thorne and addressed the future.
What happens, in your opinion, if Payton wins the first three games but looks definitely mediocre doing it?
That's the nightmare scenario for the staff. I think they need to make a change but it will be tough because that likely means the backups have not gotten many snaps when they should have.

@@TheWarRapport If the pieces around Thorne have been upgraded, has this been shown in the pre-season total game win totals from Vegas? If not, does it reflect on Payton Thorne or some other variable I am missing? Thank you.
I think it's a reflection of uncertainty in young/unproven pieces and the general lack of respect for Aubirn vs. the teams Auburn faces
- Ike
I don’t know you are getting Thorne to see the field better. He had a habit of not seeing open receivers
Simplify the reads and moving at Tempo will help

How many shows do yall gotta talk about samething qbs
I hope lots more!
Are there other things you want us to discuss?
We talk about other things, but you never seem to join those conversations.
I welcome topic suggestions from you.
Thanks!
Fireside chats anytime soon?
We certainly hope to get some lined up!
Yes Fireside!! Let's go!
Keeping Peyton made sense to me. Now, the question becomes who is QB-2? Who is nipping at QB=2's heels to have a chance to start next season? How do you sell Juju Lewis, or any other top-tier QB to commit to AU with 2 quality QBs ahead of them with multiple seasons of eligibility?
You only grab a QB from the portal if its an emergency.
Last year definitely qualifies as an emergency. Freeze inherited a team that had ran Bo Nix away, and neither Geriner or Brown were ready to be a starter.
Freeze had two choices: Use Geriner or Brown and pray to God we win atleast one SEC game, or grab a QB in the portal and hope we can possibly make it to a bowl game.
He definitely made the right decision, considering the circumstances.
So, you feel like Auburn potentially would not have won ANY SEC games with Ashford, Geriner, or Brown as starters? The addition of Thorne is what allowed Auburn to win the 3 SEC matchups last season (Ark, MSU, and Vandy)?
- Ike
@TheWarRapport prior to Thorne coming, we knew Ashford was NOT the answer. At Mich State, Thorne looked to be a better QB than Ashford would ever be, and so that's why Hugh snagged him.
Now if we are going to fast forward to the "future" of that season (which goes beyond my comment that nobody really could have predicted), Thorne was a disappointment.
Having said that, neither Thorne or Ashford is gonna win more than three SEC games when both QBs combined for 12 interceptions and only 18 touchdowns. Not to mention, Ashford threw 7 interceptions versus 7 TD's last year, so we knew the interceptions were probably coming from him, no biggie, no surprise.
But then again, Auburn probably wouldn't have half of those interceptions if we had something called an Offensine Line...Bo Nix would probably agree.
I'm not sure I follow you, but I get mostly this was an opportunity to talk about Bo being "pushed out."
Glad CHF is addressing the areas around the QB.
@@TheWarRapport Not using it as an opportunity to talk about Nix. Simply mentioning Nix as yet another QB that failed at Auburn due to a subpar offensive line, along with both Ashford and Thorne.
With or without an offensive line, Thorne is still better than Ashford.
Ok, gotcha. So, despite the fact that the season before, with a worse line, in fewer games, RA had better numbers, you are convinced Thorne is better.
Interesting.
I don't think RA is better. I just think they are different.
I think Peyton Thorne is a clear cut talented passer he can run this offense
We still trying to act like Freeze didn’t try his best to get a portal QB? Freeze has struck out 2 years in a row trying to upgrade the QB position in the portal. It’s not all his fault. Not offering the sports management degree has bit him in the butt twice now.
Who was the QB this year that he tried to get?
Also, he seemed to make it clear that he looked at options and didn't think it would be worth the money being requested. So, we aren't acting as if he didn't look.
- Ike
@@TheWarRapport Cam Ward, Riley Leonard and Kaiden Salter. And he got outbid for 2 and the school didn’t offer Salter’s major (same problem with MCall last year).
Ok, he said the price tag was too high. You are saying the same thing CHF is.
I have heard from pretty reliable sources that Auburn never offered Salter.
- Ike
@@TheWarRapport price tag might’ve been too high, but he still tried to replace PT.
We are not saying different things. Haha.
The original point was that the price wasn't worth it to CHF, not that he was so satisfied with PT.
He has made it clear that they will always look to improve at every position.

Mike you do a great job. The others on your show always talks down to your viewers. I have gotten to the point if you are not on I turn it off…,sorry.
