I’m about 3/4 the way through. Such a valuable podcast. I live in Tucson and will drive over to see Krystii’s work at Sanders. I agree with her that in order to stand out in the crowd, a woman, or any artist needs to get their work to the point where it can consistently stand with the best. For some reason, newer artists think if they learn all the “tricks” of marketing, they can sell their work - when in reality their work may not be ready for top markets. When one’s work is outstanding, opportunities come along, as they have for Krystii. Way to go!!!

Krystii is the epitome of a professional. Her ability to be such a talented and intelligent person while still maintaining a sense of humility is refreshing. She certainly deserves all the accolades that she has worked so hard to achieve. Kudos to her!

Hi Mark. Thank you for having Krystii talk about her views of where women stand in the art world. This is very valuable to me as a woman artists as I have felt "the pressure" of being a woman in a male dominated field. I have to admit, I do get angry when I see a gallery of museum show that only features men and maybe one or two women. I agree with Krystii that us women need to really step up our game as far as quality goes. So.....thank you for talking about this topic.

So glad it is helpful! Definitely opened my eyes to a reality that’s completely in front of me that I’ve been pretty blind to.

Mark, Thank you for putting this together every week. I'm learning a lot.
This is another great podcast with a lot of great takeaways. Especially with build your skills as an artist and find your own voice, Paint what truly inspires you and reflects your own experiences very important as I have had to learn in my long journey as an artist, and take risks and follow your artistic vision, even if it means going against the norm. Don't try to follow trends be you and don't be afraid to change. Find a mentor someone you admire that can help you grow reach out to them, be easy to work with, and be able to take the corrective criticism so that you can become a great artist. Looking forward to the next one.

@@LoriWoodward-gd5fl You're welcome, Lori, Marks podcast is great. I look forward to it every week since he started it. I love art and love being around great artist to learn from them. I have been drawing for many years. like what Krystii mentioned. take your work and put it in the middle of the great artwork or artwork that judges have picked and see why they stand out and maybe yo do not. This puts it into perspective. This drives me to improve to be the best I can be and to share my story to the world. Like you state in your comment below "When one’s work is outstanding, opportunities come along".

I loved that advice too. I recently had an opportunity where I had to compare my work to the other career artists’ works. I was nervous. It all worked out OK tho.

Being an artist is a lonely,, and selfish job as it takes alot of time away from family and friends

I think it depends on each artist and their work schedule. I think, like any job, if you let it run your life it can definitely be just as you say.
