      How about The Good Family? In the same way Judge took a minor Beavis and Butthead war vet retiree character and spun it into KOTH, he tried to do the same with the namby-pamby hippy teacher from B&B. It tried to do a polar opposite Hank. In the same way Hank is quietly Republican (without just labeling it that), the Good Family are less quietly leftists (they shudder at the thought of running into someone with a flag lapel pin). They shop at Whole Foods and agonize over whether the food they're buying is the good kind. They pick up trash along the road, only to find that the only people who do that are either volunteers like them... or prisoners being punished. They extol their vegan dog, oblivious to the pets and wildlife disappearing around their neighborhood because they won't feed it meat. There are actually some good stories, but the show was kind of hard to take and wearying...and the producers found that while the right loves some gentle comedy poking fun at themselves, the left bitterly despises any criticism. "Windmills!? What's so funny about windmills? We're only trying to save the Earth!" being just one of the furious comments I remember reading at the time.

    Bobby did change and develop throughout the series. He got slightly taller for one but his personality also matured. He went from having nightmares about girls to being kind of a lady's man because of his sense of humor. He went from accepting everything he was told with an "ok" to challenging his parent's authority and becoming pretty rebellious from time to time and and even pitting them against each other a few times. If course Hank always set him back on the right path 🙂. By the end of the show he is even beginning to show that he can finally handle some responsibility by taking on leadership roles at school such as when he is in charge of the school carnival.

      i think its probably that ... Peggy's mother and Father got divorced Peggy and Mother moved to Arlen (hence why theres no Peggy's father in Arlen) and back in Montana Peggys father remarried.. the ranch mom is actually Peggys step mother ..
      i know several people who have had step mothers and they call both the step mom and the biological mother "mom"
      (personally i dont agree with doing that but i never had to worry about it as i didnt even call my own mother mom.. i called her by her name as a kid)

    I think the big reason for Joseph going through puberty is just that he was originally voiced by Brittany Murphy who was less available in later seasons due to her acting career, so it was a really convenient excuse to swap out voice actors. Luann got used a lot less in later seasons as well.

  • @CallMeFreakFujiko
    @CallMeFreakFujiko 2 ปีที่แล้ว +243

    For the "Dale knows" theory, there's a couple of episodes that debunks that.
    -He was torn apart at some point when he thought that Joseph was half alien, and it took him basically the entire episode to not care and he concluded that the aliens took his DNA to make Joseph.
    -At the end of the episode where his estranged father comes back and Dale eventually finds out that he's gay, somebody (Nancy?) asks him if he's really okay with having a gay dad, and he said "Why wouldn't I? John Redcorn's gay and I've been friends with him for years."
    -And most importantly: The "he believes in conspiracy theories but he can't see this obvious affair his wife is having?!" part of the theory is the joke. The fact that he believes some really out-there conspiracy theories but can't see the obvious is part of the joke of his character. Knowing about the affair would ruin the main joke of his character. It's in character for him to believe a conspiracy theory over the obvious.

    I know two facts that are pretty famous with "King of the Hill":
    - The episode "Pigmalion" is infamous among those familiar with King of the Hill for its darker tone compared to the rest of the series, the episode originally being a Halloween episode in Season 5 before being delayed twice by Fox executives due to the episode's tone, and the creepypasta associated with it alluding to a cut scene showing Trip's demise at the hands of his machine.
    - Mike Judge originally created the show as a means of parodying Texans but after the show proved popular in Texas due to their conservative values Mike Judge decided to make the characters more three-dimensional and sympathetic.

    Joseph's design changed suddenly because the original plan for the series was to be non-episodic where the characters changed over time. The network said no since it would cause reruns of popular episodes to make no sense the creators were forced to make the show more episodic. It was important to the show for the Joseph growing up plot line that was the backbone of a lot of episodes so they decided in season 5 it was time for Joseph to hit puberty to make the rest make more sense.

    I really love the boomhauer is keeping tabs on Dale theory. My only issue with it is: they've all been friends for so long how/when would boomhauer have gotten into law enforcement, let alone become a Texas ranger, a rather elite police force in Texas, without anyone realizing it? Especially Dale, I'd imagine he'd want to distance himself from law enforcement at any costs. And if he was a Texas ranger, no one ever asked about it? I can't imagine hank not wanting to hear about boomhauer keeping law and order in Texas.

    • @demonteprice5870
      @demonteprice5870 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      The theory goes out the window when you see that several times throughout the series everyone clearly knows what Boomhauer does, but they don't say it (clearly it's an audience only mystery, not a mystery for the characters themselves) Khan knows how much Boomhauer makes, Hank has an exceptionally deep respect for Boomhauer not unlike his adamant support of Bill when he first enlisted in the army; Boomhauer is definitely the smartest of the four and the most cultured, but Hank has shown disdain for intelligent cultured people due to their outright jackassery, and while it could be Boomhauer's honesty that he respects, it's quite possible that him being a Texas Ranger is where that reverence comes from (I mean he quotes the man to his son to prove points for Christ's sake) and becoming a Ranger is a long arduous process that one can't really do secretly, there would've had to have been a 10 year period of active duty with law enforcement before he could even be considered for a role like that, he didn't just become a Ranger and then keep it hush-hush. I don't believe he was lying about formerly being an electrician living on a workers comp settlement, that's probably what he did after high school and he probably used a portion of the settlement to buy his house on Rainey Street and then decided to become a cop at some point and eventually ascended to a position as a Texas Ranger

    with the Cotton faking his death theory, (in his final episode he showed the ability to voluntarily stop his heart), I always thought it was about money. Couple episodes showed his money problems and the climax of one was him admitting his life insurance policy makes him "worth more dead than alive". Considering how he complains about not expecting to raise G.H. (despite loving him) and wanting him to have the best of everything, and earlier episodes showing he is sad that he is essentially the only one left of all of his war buddies, that he faked his death so Didi could cash in his life insurance, provide for G.H. and he could spend his finals days wallowing in his own sadness (like Peggy yelled at him he deserved to the moment before his death). He said he didn't love nobody and nobody loves him essentially wanting to push people away who would be sad about his death, if he survived (he was a tough son of a bitch and doctors were baffled why he wasn't already), he'd be, in his mind, making people sadder for when he eventually does die.

    Actually, the original series finale was supposed to be season 10's episode, "Lucky's Wedding Suit". KOTH was on the verge of being cancelled that season so the original ending for that episode was Hank and the guys in the alley, reminiscing about past episodes , shortly after Lucky and Luanne's wedding. It was supposed to end with the same overhead pan of Arlen that the pilot started with. (The network decided at the last minute to continue the show's run, so those scenes were taken out). It's also the reason you see several guest characters from past episodes as wedding guests in that episode.

    King of the Hill has been my favorite show since I was like 10 and I'm 31. I worry about what they would do with Luanne's character without Brittany Murphy and how they would navigate the current social climate. I just don't expect it to hit the same and I wish producers would support the e artists who are out here telling new stories rather than trying to capitalize on our nostalgia and ruining the legacies of these shows.

      well it's been 10-15 years since the show has been off the air and Brittany Murphy has been gone & in the last season she was barely on the show so they can either write her off or give her a new voice character to make her sound older

    Much as I want Cotton to still be alive, it seems kinda impossible since he died I a hospital and people would notice if the body just vanished.

      He reminded me a bit of my own grandfather who died in a sad, lonely way on Christmas and I cried when watching Cotton Hill die onscreen.

      Nah it could work just have stuff happen off screen and nooe know or realize about it
      Look at ending of the pig episode the guy dies and gets turned into food that later would be served to people and the episode just ends what happened after? Did Peggy just leave and let man get eaten and the guy is just missing forever or did police end up showing up and do police work
