    Pickpocketing is mostly concentrated just in Barcelona, it's not at all common in other areas of Spain. That's cause Barcelona is very international city and has A LOT of tourist.

    Wow, you're bringing back so many memories! 🙂 OK not to hijack but to augment ... LOL!
    You didn't mention Barceloneta. Yea yea, I know, no one likes it. But I've lived there in two separate flats and absolutely LOVED the area. Everything is so convenient. Sure it's overrun with the cruise ships and their ilk, but I seriously enjoyed my time there.
    And dinnertime! I soooooo miss the 10:30 meals, it made perfect sense. Just can't do that here in the states ... all the more reason to move back to Spain. (We're working on it!)

    I'm moving to Barcelona soon and love all of your videos! Super helpful and informative. Finding a flat is super stressful right now, I think I'm starting too early so haven't found anything open for my dates yet. How early in advance do you typically look for a flat? The rent market I'm in is a bit slower, but it seems like in Barcelona I have to sign and move in on the same day lol.
    What about security deposits? Have you had any issues with not getting your deposit back or landlords nickle and diming you for it? I've had a few friends warn me about this.

    • @NatashaBergen
      @NatashaBergen  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s super exciting Dawn!! Based on what I know, you can find something within a month, assuming your requirements aren’t overly intense ;) the only exception to that would be August- that’s the worst month to try to move because everyone is on holiday.
      As for deposits - we’ve never had a problem but because we also screen our landlords/landladies and read the contract very thoroughly. That being said I’ve had friends who had this problem so I recommend taking photos of literally everything before moving in so you have proof. Aaaaand when you look at your contract it’s important to see there is a part describing what’s in the flat and what state it’s in.
      I hope it helps! Keep your eyes out for more videos coming soon ;)

So I wanted to ask you, what is your day-to-day experience with your Bella? Where do you walk her, how far the parks are, which neighborhoods are the best for dogs, and where can she be off-leash, do you shop with her , or take her to restaurants, how are the beaches, and also does your lifestyle with her change from summer to winter?

    Hi everyone. I love to hear and read people talk with such love about our city, but I'd like to ask you a thing.
    If you come to live to Barcelona, even if it's only for a few months, try to learn at least a bit of Catalan and Spanish and integrate into local culture.
    You love Barcelona cause of its people, its restaurants, its urbanism...
    Well, when you come here, people leave, cause you can pay higher rents with your online jobs. And then, when you start going to the new "Brunch Bar" instead of the local restaurant, you finally kick off the last contact with local culture you had, and then it doesn't matter wether you live here or in NY, your live will be the same.
    This has already happened in Sant Antoni, and it's starting to happen in Poblenou too. I'm not asking you to do the impossible, I think, just try to help maintaining the reason qe all love this city so much.
    If you've come this far, thanks for your time :)
    Edit: oh, and don't say "expat" please. It makes it seem like you are different just for being anglo and have money instead of african or from latam. It just feels weird and a little bit classist xd

    We just returned from a 10-day visit visiting some of my wife’s family. It had been 20 years since our last visit. Most of her family, in Spain, live in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. One thing I noticed was that -laces with air conditioning such as stores, restaurants, even the airport do not keep the AC very cold…I was sweating while shopping and at the airport on arrival and departure. Even in my wife’s nephews Apartment, when they had the AC turned on, it was set at 25c/77f…but the actual temperature inside was 27c/81f…that is uncomfortably hot for inside while trying to sleep.. on nights when they said it was “cool” outside (22/23c-73/74f), they didn’t turn on the AC, so their was no air flow in the apartment; even with the window open, I was suffocating.

    Great video, I was just looking for info like this! Question: when you visit appartments, they ask for 3 payslips and a job contract for both of you? My husband has it but I will look for a job later. How did you solve it without working in bcn?

    • @NatashaBergen
      @NatashaBergen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Magdalena! Thanks for a lovely message and great question :) Yes, you're right, most will ask for this.
      It depends on your situation, but let's say your husband's contract shows that he could 'support' you both, then they won't need proof from you.
      Or if you can both prove that you have the funds to pay rent without a problem, then you could offer to show this.
      Another thing you could do is offer another month of deposit.
      Not sure if this will apply, but if you had recent income because you're a freelancer you can show recent invoiced payments or previous tax forms.
      They really just want to guarantee that they will get their rent every month.
      I hope that helps! :)

    How would you compare living in Lisboa vs. Barcelona?

    • @NatashaBergen
      @NatashaBergen  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! I'm working on a video to this question, as I get it a lot :) In a nutshell, I'd say it comes down to what you prioritize and what you look for in your day to day. I personally preferred Lisbon to Barcelona but that was mainly because of my lifestyle and the immediate nature around. Barcelona has been great as it's a nice international hub with affordable flights.
      Keep your eyes out for the video! :D

    isn't illegal this agency fee? I think I read something about it, only the landlord should pay them (I also had to pay for this fee but I'm thinking about suing them)

      At the time of making this video, no it was not illegal but yes now the law has changed. Landlords pay the agency, renters should not. 😁

    I’ve just come back from 5 days and my favourite parts are those you’re not keen on. The gothic quarter was beautiful and full of character whilst I personally found the newer areas to be mostly ugly with terrible relatively modern architecture. Also after looking to buy, those properties weren’t cheap either, not much cheaper per square meter then my own city. Where as further north and both east and west of the city centre apartments seemed much cheaper. We were finding 3 bedroom apartments fairly modern for around 150,000 euros. In general I got the feeling it would be a wonderful city in which to live, I felt safe, it was clean, as a tourist I didn’t feel I was taken advantage of and enjoyed it very much and would recommend a visit to everyone. The way of life would suit me very much, but as with many places it’s a different experience if you’re selling up and relocating with money/assets than it would be to start from scratch. I know quite a few people from Barcelona who now live here in the UK and although they love their home they complain about ever feeling they can own a property, start a business or indeed earn a decent salary.

    I was recently in El Ravel and prior to going out there I was telling my friends how much less gross Spanish men are than men in the UK, and less sexist. But in El Ravel women can’t walk more than two steps without men whistling, yelling and even acts of intimidation. But I have had exactly that in Brixton, Hackney and Elephant and Castle in London as well. But it’s still disgusting! I’ll definitely avoid it in future

    Why does a small country speak two languages? What is the reason? Seems insanity/absurd/wasteful. But I heared they are similar.

    • @pizzaipinya2442
      @pizzaipinya2442 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Amongst other things, it is for political historical reasons. Spain was formed by uniting the crowns of Castille and Aragon, each one with its own language (or 2 in the case of Aragon, with Aragonese and Catalan/Valencian).
      While time passed, Castilian ended up dominating in administration for various war reasons, as well as in trading (where it already was really used by the Aragonese elites), while Catalan remained in use by peasants and in daily life.
      Castillian is what's known outside of Spain as Spanish. Nowadays everyone speaks Spanish, and lots of people don't know Catalan at all, as massive immigrant waves from Southern Spain came to Barcelona in the 50s-60s, even outnumbering locals.
      All languages that existed before in Spain are more of a dialectal continuous were language A is similar to B, B is similar to C, etc, until language A and F are not that similar (they're all derived from Latin after all). So saying "this is a language this isn't" is more of a modern classification after all these were fit into standards from academia in recent centuries and started to be taught at schools, leading to a homogeneasation of these different languages.
      But even today, dialects vary a lot, the best example being Andalusian Spanish. Oh, and Vasque is its own weird non-Latin thing xd.

    People say friends to even acquaintances. In Russia friend is someone you always talk on daily basis. Mostly we just say neighbour, aquintance, schoolmate, hommie, in ussr people used to say tovarisch witch we don’t say anymore after ussr which means something like fellow. In Ireland here they say a friend of mine. No one really says a friend. I think there are no such thing as friend or friends. Family yes but most “friends” are only there for a quick benefit or they keep you as a slave for you to forget about your life and to life your life for them, which they don’t say cause it’s not correct. If you have people like that near you they “friends” will throw your life on a trash yard. Just stuff no one talks about cause there are only zombies and retards out there.
