She is so impressive. calling her as just a waitress is a total understatement - she does the duties of every role from dishwasher to GM. Edit: I’m in the USA and the roles are usually segmented unless you’re a manager role or owner/family
I am half Japanese and worked at a Japanese restaurant during high school. I was the same - I served tables, made drinks and dessert, dishwasher, and kitchen hand. Maybe it's a part of Japanese restaurant culture. I know that in the US, the roles seem to be a lot more segmented - e.g. a hostess and a server would have very different roles. Quite interesting
managing her own business is a tall order, not only you pigeonhole yourself into a multi million dollar debt to establish your business, you also somehow have to figure out how to attract customer, and make food that people actually like. not to mention, owning a restaurant business mean that you no longer have any private time left. you should work harder than any normal human, or else, those Rent, Electricity and Payroll gonna haunt you in your sleep. owning a restaurant is a torture compared to working at the average 9-5 office job
what she does is many times more than a GM or Manager does in an American restaurant it really shows just how well they work and how much better they are treated compared to those in America.
I feel like that's all just played up for the camera to make foreigners think Japanese workers are extremely dedicated and to not get in trouble with their boss who might see the videos and see them slacking. I don't believe workers care that much about their low-paying jobs that require you to live in a laughably tiny apartment, especially in recent times with the exposure of how toxic the Japanese workplace is.

I used to work in the food and beverage industry before Covid hit us. She could be a Restaurant supervisor from my opinion. Stock control, beverage making, hostess, server, ... every tasks in the front of house that she can perfectly handle them. Respect to the Japanese working spirit ! Dear Paulo, my girlfriend works at a nursery home for elderly people who suffer from dementia. Her job is to completely take care of them. This is in The Netherlands and I would love to see how it is in comparison to Japan. Would you consider doing a 'One day in the life of an eldery caretaker'? Something like that. Thank you :)
It is typically 40 hours in total, so they come with long shift and short shift, most restaurants work have irregular shifts. I worked for several restaurants in Japan.

This is all alright if she is making decent money though but yea, i can't imagine this is great for mental health if she isn't saving money. Edit: just checked japans minimum wage. @ctcarino It was fantastic. Went there for lunch. My wife and I got the set, and it was filling. There were only two workers (we may have been the first customers of the day). Beef was premium, and nothing was overly complicated that could take away from the Wagyu center piece. It was the most expensive meal we had in our Japan trip (less than what we'd pay in the States) but well worth the experience.
@@thelifeofbatteries2603 For the most part, the language barrier didn't hinder the experience. It's best to just be polite and point at the item on the menu. Saying thank you or hello is quite universal and appreciated when communication is difficult. :)

These behind the counter videos are sure to make everyone’s day. Japan has notoriously long working hours, and it’s quite admirable to see people who are always willing to do what it takes to go beyond and overcome challenges along their way.
Well being? Yes job security but she’s working from 9am to 11pm 5-6 days a week. She’s fine with that because she’s Japanese and has that amazing work ethic. Westerners are lazy and wouldn’t last a week in her shoes.

Right after college, I got hired in a corporate office. I got a job waiting tables on the weekend and frequently worked a double shift on Sat and a split shit on Sun (11-8pm). Also, I’d got out a few nights during the week and sometimes on Sat night. (And the work commute was 2+ hours for the corporate job.)
yeah, i work 8 hours with around 1:30 hours for breaks, and i feel exhausted after work... although that might also be because my job involves alot of moving and standing, and the fact that i start at 7 AM.
I'm a waitress , bartender , gaming attendant and receptionist at my work. And what she's doing really inspires me , to thrive and work harder. Not only she does a long hours but she does an absolute perfection at her job. She's a hard worker , has a good attitude and beautiful. One of a kind of role model I look up to.

Awesome! I worked as an Expeditor at a restaurant for 6 years so content like this always fascinates me. Seeing how a restaurant from a different country works and operates is exciting to me, now I'm hoping for a 'Day in the Life of a Japanese Line Cook'.

She comes in to work at 10:30 am, restaurant closes at 11pm, helps with cleaning after then finally comes home by 11:40pm. Wow, that's such a long working hour. I hope she enjoys her restdays and reward herself. Its nice that she finds an anime activity that she enjoys.
Technically, Japan adopted a 40-hour workweek in the 80s. So either this restaurant is breaking labor laws, or she's getting overtime pay/more time off on other days. I hope it's the latter.
I'm currently working here in Japan for 4 months with the same job as her, but we are called "company employees (shain)". Not just "waitress". Our workload is very similar and NORMAL here in Japan. It's really hard but I'm glad that we're actually well-compensated here. What I earn here per hour is equivalent to what I earn in PH per day. So yeah, it's worth it, just tiring, very tiring :(
This young lady has got her “stuff” together and works hard and is very organized doing it. A lot of personal pride in doing her best at it no matter the task. She is AWESOME!
In the Philippines, working beyond your usual tasks shows "MALASAKIT". It generally means that you show compassion and care for whatever it is you're doing and who you are doing it for. It's amazing to see how humble service workers have ingrained this virtue despite the taxing workload. Thank you for this series Paolo!

I think hers is one of the few that's more tiring out of all that has been featured so far. Ridiculously long hours and lots of miscellaneous tasks aside from the customer service itself which is no joke on its own. And like only less than a couple hours to enjoy herself at home before getting 6hrs of sleep. No wonder she kinda had a hard time waking fully at the start of the video. Great respect to her and to all the waiters/waitresses out there.

Everyday life is not about saving children and cats from burning buildings. The chef in the video cleans his drain - such a small gesture - but it reflects his attitude toward cleanliness, his cooking, how his patrons will enjoy his food because he cares about the small details. The little things in life matter.
I am amazed how organized Yuki is, while working this long and hard! I hope her pay is good, every restaurant - or company, really - is lucky to have such a dedicated employee

I really love the Day in the Life series. I lived in Japan before moving to a law enforcement career and watching Paolo's videos reminds me of all that I miss about life in Japan. I ate here in 2017 on a business trip! I couldn't believe it when you were walking through because it felt so familiar, but I went back and checked the pictures and lo and behold, 5 years later it looks exactly the same! Great food and a friendly experience!

nahh -- they pay her shit -- she can barely afford her apartment and daily living -- I own a bar and its typical -- hourly to pay about 1000 yen and hour -- if you do salary expect much less
Japanese restaurants typically have very irregular shifts, total working hours for employee is 40 at most(unless doing overtime which is rare), so not different from other jobs.
@@Mwoods2272 It is very much standard that people work 4 hours in some days and 12hours in other days. 99% chances are she is working 40hours of irregular shifts rather than doing 2 hours of overtime everytime. I worked several restaurants in Japan and never seen single cheff/waiters/wairess over 40hours unless manager. It is pretty rare that restaurants have 30minutes+ of overtime as they most certainly have closing hours.

She sleeps at 2am at night, and wakes up at 8am in the morning. That's extreme. Much respect! Update: I'm saying "extreme" because 2am is the time where your organs need to relax etc... It's *usually* not recommended to stay up that late.
Just to remind you that the averge sleep time of Japanese is 7.5 hours. And Japan is already the top 10 least sleep time country in the world. So yeah, 6hours per day is an extreme in long run
I work night shifts. And sometimes my shifts will be 3 nights, a day off and then 2 nights after. that day off where I can sleep normal makes it hard to sleep for the next night shift. So that next nightshift is usually me without any sleep lol. It is not fun at all!
Fantastic video. Aside from cooking, she does almost every operational and waitressing task in the restaurant. Hard working. An idea, maybe revisit a few older videos and see how those workers are doing now…..if they are still there, you can help re promote the business. I.e. Remember Aukumi; when we saw her last she was a car parts delivery person, now she’s the CEO

Left the house for work at 10AM and got home from work at 11:40PM. That is more than 12 hours! And she is doing all the responsibilities of at least 3 people. Respect! Japanese are so hardworking.

I love the Japanese work ethic…service, quality, team. My 2004 Toyota Tacoma still makes me smile every time I drive it - lucky to have one actually built in Japan.
One of the Greatest things about Japanese education is the cleanliness they're taught and the respect for someone else's efforts, like cultivating vegetables and dairy so you don't have to do it. I actually love this about any culture and our country really needs to get on the same boat. It's hard process for overly privileged kids but its possible and we can start with the parents, by making them more assertive and less afraid of their childrens backlashing

This woman left a strong impression with me. Working a 13 hour shift, working way more tasks than just a simple waitress and still retaining a smile on her face after that every day. As a European I have to say that this is nowhere comparable to even the busier waiter jobs here. We should all feel humbled and not cry about our shifts. Great video!

Dear Paulo, my girlfriend works at a nursery home for elderly people who suffer from dementia. Her job is to completely take care of them. @ctcarino It was fantastic. Went there for lunch. My wife and I got the set, and it was filling. There were only two workers (we may have been the first customers of the day). Beef was premium, and nothing was overly complicated that could take away from the Wagyu center piece. It was the most expensive meal we had in our Japan trip (less than what we'd pay in the States) but well worth the experience.

Right after college, I got hired in a corporate office.
I got a job waiting tables on the weekend and frequently worked a double shift on Sat and a split shit on Sun (11-8pm). Also, I’d got out a few nights during the week and sometimes on Sat night.
(And the work commute was 2+ hours for the corporate job.)
yeah, i work 8 hours with around 1:30 hours for breaks, and i feel exhausted after work... although that might also be because my job involves alot of moving and standing, and the fact that i start at 7 AM.
I'm a waitress , bartender , gaming attendant and receptionist at my work. And what she's doing really inspires me , to thrive and work harder. Not only she does a long hours but she does an absolute perfection at her job. She's a hard worker , has a good attitude and beautiful. One of a kind of role model I look up to.

Technically, Japan adopted a 40-hour workweek in the 80s. So either this restaurant is breaking labor laws, or she's getting overtime pay/more time off on other days. I hope it's the latter.

I'm currently working here in Japan for 4 months with the same job as her, but we are called "company employees (shain)". Not just "waitress". Our workload is very similar and NORMAL here in Japan. It's really hard but I'm glad that we're actually well-compensated here. What I earn here per hour is equivalent to what I earn in PH per day. So yeah, it's worth it, just tiring, very tiring :(

In the Philippines, working beyond your usual tasks shows "MALASAKIT". It generally means that you show compassion and care for whatever it is you're doing and who you are doing it for. It's amazing to see how humble service workers have ingrained this virtue despite the taxing workload.

I think hers is one of the few that's more tiring out of all that has been featured so far. Ridiculously long hours and lots of miscellaneous tasks aside from the customer service itself which is no joke on its own. And like only less than a couple hours to enjoy herself at home before getting 6hrs of sleep. No wonder she kinda had a hard time waking fully at the start of the video. I really love the Day in the Life series. I lived in Japan before moving to a law enforcement career and watching Paolo's videos reminds me of all that I miss about life in Japan. I'm due to retire in January and may reward myself with a visit to Japan. Paolo have you attempted to do a day in the life of a police officer?

I ate here in 2017 on a business trip! I couldn't believe it when you were walking through because it felt so familiar, but I went back and checked the pictures and lo and behold, 5 years later it looks exactly the same! Great food and a friendly experience!

nahh -- they pay her shit -- she can barely afford her apartment and daily living -- I own a bar and its typical -- hourly to pay about 1000 yen and hour -- if you do salary expect much less
Japanese restaurants typically have very irregular shifts, total working hours for employee is 40 at most(unless doing overtime which is rare), so not different from other jobs.

It is very much standard that people work 4 hours in some days and 12hours in other days.
99% chances are she is working 40hours of irregular shifts rather than doing 2 hours of overtime everytime. I worked several restaurants in Japan and never seen single cheff/waiters/wairess over 40hours unless manager.
It is pretty rare that restaurants have 30minutes+ of overtime as they most certainly have closing hours.
Wow she does a lot as a waitress! So cool to see the ins and outs of her job, goes beyond taking orders and serving them. I’d love to visit that restaurant some day

She sleeps at 2am at night, and wakes up at 8am in the morning. That's extreme. Much respect!
Update: I'm saying "extreme" because 2am is the time where your organs need to relax etc... It's *usually* not recommended to stay up that late.

Just to remind you that the averge sleep time of Japanese is 7.5 hours. And Japan is already the top 10 least sleep time country in the world. So yeah, 6hours per day is an extreme in long run
I work night shifts. And sometimes my shifts will be 3 nights, a day off and then 2 nights after.
that day off where I can sleep normal makes it hard to sleep for the next night shift. So that next nightshift is usually me without any sleep lol. It is not fun at all!

Fantastic video. Aside from cooking, she does almost every operational and waitressing task in the restaurant. Hard working. An idea, maybe revisit a few older videos and see how those workers are doing now…..if they are still there, you can help re promote the business. I.e. Remember Aukumi; when we saw her last she was a car parts delivery person, now she’s the CEO

Left the house for work at 10AM and got home from work at 11:40PM. That is more than 12 hours! And she is doing all the responsibilities of at least 3 people. Respect!

I love the Japanese work ethic…service, quality, team. My 2004 Toyota Tacoma still makes me smile every time I drive it - lucky to have one actually built in Japan.
the amount of WORK she's doing is astonishing for the country i grew in. one word respect.
One of the Greatest things about Japanese education is the cleanliness they're taught and the respect for someone else's efforts, like cultivating vegetables and dairy so you don't have to do it. I actually love this about any culture and our country really needs to get on the same boat. It's hard process for overly privileged kids but its possible and we can start with the parents, by making them more assertive and less afraid of their childrens backlashing

This woman left a strong impression with me. Working a 13 hour shift, working way more tasks than just a simple waitress and still retaining a smile on her face after that every day. As a European I have to say that this is nowhere comparable to even the busier waiter jobs here. We should all feel humbled and not cry about our shifts. Great video!
