My neice wanted to get married at Lake Como, Italy. I've spent the last year learning Italian. She's now changed her mind to Greece.(omg) Thanks Rosetta Stone LOL
Quite a few channels have made the trek to Svalbard. Noel Phillips flew from the southernmost airport in Chile to Svalbard then ran into Steve Marsh while there. That was the best video.
I'm from Germany and no one wears shoes inside anywhere there or Scandinavia. We offer indoor slippers to guests that might be shy of their feet. What a great trip, I would love to go there someday.
I just have to say how much I enjoy your content amd how postive you guys are but also thank you for giving me a glimpse into places all over the world that I will never be able to go to due to my illnesses I get to feel like I'm actually there absolutely love you 3 and love seeing Noah grow up you are both doing an incredible job as hoomans and parents ❤
Wow.. thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comment 🙏 we are so incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to be able to share these videos of places like this and it makes us so happy to hear how much you enjoy them! Thank you
If you are gonna leave your kid sleeping in a hotel room, while you go shopping, Svalbard is the place to do it. It has like little to no crime, and Longyearbyen is a very small village. They were probably very close to the hotel, the entire time. Plus they said they were watching him on a video monitor.
I could never leave my child alone in a hotel room. Nothing is that important to go do. A monitor will do nothing to keep your child safe. It's possible it's illegal to even do it.
I lived in Anchorage, Alaska for 4 years and everyone has to have good indoor activities during the Winter to occupy their mind and get some physical activity. It takes a while to get used to the darkness. But on the flip side ---- you have lots of sunshine in the Summer.
Hey guys I follow a beautiful creator who lives there on Svalbard Cecilia Blomdal. She always sees the northern lights. So you should be able to see them. That’s a beautiful place. She also just wrote a book on living there. Have fun lots to see there. 💖
As an immigrant from sunny, warm Southern California to snowy Dalarna, Sweden, I must admit that I LOVE snow! Yeah, it can be dangerous and is frequently unpredictable, but it is ALWAYS beautiful!
Ceclia Blomdahl has a fantastic You Tube channel which showcases her life in Svalbard. One of her more recent videos has amazing Northern Lights on it.
Really interesting to hear and see the experience of Svalbard. Thank you for sharing! I’ll send you guys positive vibes that you DO get to see those Northern Lights whilst you’re there! 🤞
Good to see you back on the road again. Been watching for years and its good to see you traveling again. For me less baby more structured house renovation and lots of traveling. I guess this is an evolution of you channel. Good luck with your channel going forward. Love Norway and have done two winter road trips. What a stunning place to spend time.
We were in Narvik, which is barely in the Arctic circle, in June, so we experienced the midnight sun. Really appreciated the blackout blinds in our apartment!
Ahh I'm sad that your trip coincides with Cecilia Blomdahl's trip to her mom's house in Portugal. I would've loved to watch y'all meet. 😊 Have a beautiful time! Watch those polar bears!! 🙏
I'm hoping a staff member at the hotel offered to monitor him on the baby monitor. 😬🤞🏼 We've gone to a pool that was directly across the hallway from our hotel room and I was nervous listening for our son on the baby monitor.
We have a husky cross, and he’s the most gentle dog I’ve ever come across, which is saying something as we’ve always managed to acquire dogs with a good temperament. It’s even more remarkable in that we found him abandoned on a river bank. You’d think that would affect his trust in humans. We initially handed him in to the dog rescue service, just in case he had accidentally got lost, not only did he not have a collar, his chip was still registered to the breeder.
Cecilia blomdahl lives there and she will see northern lights and film them often...so just be patient and maybe on a clear night, you will see them there
I rarely comment but I am hoping that they had a baby sitter for Noah? Why on earth would anyone leave a child on their own in a hotel room? It doesn’t take two of you to go to the supermarket. Never leave them alone in a foreign country. 🤷🏼♀️ what is that all about.
You went to Tromsø! What a nice surprise to see you visiting my home town, thank you 😍 The darkness of winter in the northern hemisphere can be depressing even for some locals, but it teaches us to appreciate light and enjoy the particular colours of the polar night. When the sky is clear there can be beautiful light even in the darkness.
They love their son more than anything and they have cameras on him and it would be no different than someone's child taking a nap in the house while they're outside washing their car, the little shop is just right next to where they're staying at , they got their eyes on their baby
Thank you for the amazing videos! We are also looking forward to Noah's first "Beans Out!" outro! Also, I believe most of the residents take vitamin D3 supplements (or eat lots of salmon/cod) which helps as a mental stabilizer. If you don't get enough sun, or eat fish, then it's definitely worth getting some or at the very least checking your levels.
It would be so cool if you could’ve run Cecelia but she is in Portugal I bet while you are there. You’ll at least need to check out her blog. Her book she just published got on the Best Sellers list.
what is wild is that the food prices are pretty comparable to the average prices all across USA. 6 dollars for blackberries isn't unheard of in winter time when they are not in season.
I can imagine arctic summer. Ive been watching Celia since just about the beginning. Ive never been there but got so excited when we went to the market. Ive been in there with Celia so many times. You went on a good day.. Ive seen it very barren.
It didn't seem like it was very cold...Agreeable! Svalbard is a tax-free zone, so you get everything you buy here at tax-free prices. In Longyearbyen's many sports shops, you can bargain on outdoor clothing and equipment, and in addition, alcohol and tobacco are reasonably priced compared to the mainland. I've never had any problems with it not being light during the day...or never dark at night. But now remember that it is constantly getting darker or lighter every day. We notice it from the middle of Norway and northward...the further north, the more visible.
I know you post these videos long after you film them, but I’m crossing my fingers that you got to meet Cecilia Blomdahl. She would definitely be able to show you what to do during polar night.
Too bad you did not connect with Cecilia Blomdahl, she lives on Svalbard in Longyearbyen and has a popular YT channel, she could be a heck of a guide around town.
If you are living in a far north community, you get used to the changes as they are gradual. It gets a bit darker every day then slowly gets lighter. The summer days were harder with kids as they didn't want to sleep. We had to put tin foil over their windows to make their rooms dark enough for sleep.
Static discharges are from very dry air...below 35% humidity. Comes from heating up the room which dries up any moisturr, you may notice dry noses. Need a humidifier to fix and bring about to a comfy 50% ish. Dealing with this now as a northerner:)
I was in Finnish Lapland during the Polar Summer and I couldn't get used to the sun never setting! But at least I got to enjoy all the scenery with all of that daylight.
Lovely to see you in the polar night AND with Noah which is lovely. I saw the polar summer a few years ago which was amazing, not sure I’d deal well with perpetual night if I’m honest! Emma you look really well, well done, not that you don’t Alex, you do 😊
Yes, it's expensive since everything has to be shipped in from Norway. Svalbard has lots of northern lights. Svalbard isn't always windy, it's just like any other place wind one day and gone the next.
As I understand, you are not allowed to be born on the island, you have to go elsewhere, usually to Norway I believe. I do know that you can't be buried there. Great video as always guys x
You two are unbelievable. You take poor little Noah to the arctic without any gloves. And then you leave him on his own asleep in the hotel whilst you go and have fun? Never heard of what happened to Madeleine McCann? My wife and I are appalled.
Would love to go to Svalbard, if you look it up no one is allowed to be born there or die there, not surd how that works out. Love hearing Noah becoming more vocal x
I too follow Cecelia and Christopher. I think having your own cabin you can be cozy and have your own life, it would be more enjoyable. And I have seen plenty of northern lights from there on Cecelias channel. Bummer you didn't get to experience it! And as far as being born there, that doesn't happen. People aren't allowed to have babies there. They have to leave the island to give birth and then come back afterwards.
Hi guys, Not sure I could enjoy such COLD/freezing temps. Nice to see it from afar. I have a friend who lives in Finland and explains how cold it is and how dark. Unfortunately, someone like me would be very depressed in that situation, as is my friend living in Finland. ENJOY YOUR ADVENTURE. FROM POMPANO BEACH FLORIDA
We went to Iceland in early December hoping to see Northern Lights. They are fickle. It really depends on solar activity. Several areas of the planet claim to be best for viewing and I suspect it is about tourism. There is a Northern Lights tour in Iceland. It is not a country in 24 hours of darkness, but in December it was close to 20 hours. On the tours you go to a remote hotel and when the sun is up you do what you like. When it's dark the tour operators scout for the aurora and let their guests know if they are visible. That includes when you might be sleeping because sometimes they show up at 2 or 3 am. If they need to drive somewhere for a better view they do that. Anyway, if we travel again "just" to see them we will do so with the knowledge that we might or might not see them.
Norway is definitely an experience...a different kind of beauty than Alaska, only the same kind of vastness. To anyone wanting to experience the Northern Lights please remember to keep the moon cycle in mind when booking your trip. You want to avoid the full moon as much as possible. Happy Travels
I thought I had stayed at the northern most hotel at Thule Greenland's North Star Inn, but you have me beat by 500 miles. Also 24 hours of daylight, so no northern lights for me.
Google images to see what it looks like in the light months... personally I would go nuts... UK winter days are grey enough but we do have some light.... in the words of Eric and Ernie... bring me sunshine 😊
Beans did you get to meet Cecilia and her family? Little Noah would of loved her I believe. She is always soo happy about everything. Ps Noah grows cuter and cuter everyday if that's possible.
Like you my husband and I are fascinated by the polar nights as an experience so we had already booked for Jan 2026, staying in the same hotel as you guys. Did you just take your normal outdoor coats and shoes do did you buy snow related one#? Look forward to the next episode x
I see Noah has become a chip off the old block, you walked into the hotel room and he went straight to the mini bar fridge. Do they have any Ice Hotels there? I follow Cecilia Blomdahl who lives in Svalbard. I enjoy her videos so much. Enjoy your stay in the darkness. 😂
Cecilia would have had some great entertainment for you! Enjoyed your video. Thanks for taking us along!❤
Cecilia's book about Svalbard is also awesome, so much geographical detail and such an easy read
I was just going to say the same thing, she could have given them some GREAT foresite!
Was just going to say that. Would be cool if they met up

Love to see world travellers experience the polar night!

@TravelBeans you should look up Cecelia Blombard she is a you tuber who lives there x
Thanks for bringing your light to this place. ‘Cause that’s what you do!’ And do it well. Thanks for brightening our day.
Did you take Noah with you when you went food shopping.
Thank You Alex & Emma & Noah for Another Adventure 🙂💙👍Wishing You Safe Travels from Canada🙂❤👍
Thanks so much! And thanks for watching! 😊🙏
Did you leave Noah in the hotel room alone while you went shopping?
🕉
@StarryogaYogamantra so where was he?

Isn’t this a misdemeanor to do this?
Must admit I am waiting for Noah's first Beans Out :)
😂
Yes! That would be awesome!
Always Love hearing you guys laugh😂gets me giggling!
You guys are lovely and delightful. 💕

Wow, the town is gorgeous! Love the subdued northern day light. Its so interesting! Thanks for taking us..

These static shocks happen here in Toronto a lot too... my kitties hate it.

What a trip. I think your ending summed it all up and Noah chiming in to help.
You Beans continue to amaze me
Noah is so cute and he has the sweetest little voice!
We were able to see the Northern lights here in South Carolina on October 10th, 2024. It was really beautiful and strange. ❤
At least it gave Alex's eye a rest!

My dream destination ! Thanks for showing what it’s like in winter . Tromso is a great place to stay too .
You guys are CRAZY!!!! I'm freezing my buns of just looking at you two 🥰🥰🥰

ooh try that brown cheese! I loved it!
This looks good

Great video. The shoes off in a building is a holdover from years ago when the main economy was coal mining - you don't want that dust brought inside.
That makes a lot of sense! Thanks for sharing this! 🙏

You are the most brilliant people. Wags from my Dalmatian x
Those food prices seems about on par for we pay for food here in Vancouver, BC.
Oh the dogs are wonderful!!!
You two are unbelievable. You take poor little Noah to the arctic without any gloves. And then you leave him on his own asleep in the hotel whilst you go and have fun? Never heard of what happened to Madeleine McCann? My wife and I are appalled.
Well said
Watching from Central Florida, after living in very snowy northern US states. Looks like great fun, for a short visit 😊
Would love to go to Svalbard, if you look it up no one is allowed to be born there or die there, not surd how that works out. Love hearing Noah becoming more vocal x
Glad to see the tiny human you made seems ready to bean. Have fun. Get weird.
Two weeks in Alaska in the winter was enough dark for us!! Give me light!!
kudos to you for keeping Noah happy in a very strange place
LOL My fleecy blankets in Indiana do the sparking this time of year. The darker the blanket, the easier it is to see the sparks.

Awesome video! I must say you should go to Canada and go up to one of the territories for the Northern Lights!
That would be cool! We have been wanting to do a big Canada trip for years now.. maybe this year could be the one 🤞
How is Noah walking and talking? Wasn't he born like five minutes ago??!!
😂 it certainly feels like it to us too!
Hi guys, Not sure I could enjoy such COLD/freezing temps. Nice to see it from afar.

Wow… that sounds incredible! Greenland is another place we would really love to visit someday!
You can see reindeer in the Cairngorms in Scotland and you may get some snow too 😂
Look at the likes! awesome Beans
Found multiple hotels in Svalbard that are more north than that one :D
I bet Alex’s eye enjoyed all that darkness!
😂 yes!
The weather looks like where I live! Southern Saskatchewan Canada!
I couldn't handle constant darkness! Ugh
Oh wow! That must be intense to live with that much snow.. beautiful though 💛
Google images to see what it looks like in the light months... personally I would go nuts... UK winter days are grey enough but we do have some light.... in the words of Eric and Ernie... bring me sunshine 😊
Norwegian brown cheese is sweet and tastes wonderful!!!
Beans did you get to meet Cecilia and her family? Little Noah would of loved her I believe. She is always soo happy about everything. Ps Noah grows cuter and cuter everyday if that's possible.
You should try out the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi Sweden 😂 then you can see the northern lights 🎉
So happy to see you guys! Always love your videos. When are you having another baby?😂😂😂😂 have fun safe travels
Saw the Northern Lights in West Cork a short while ago only for a minute as it was a break in the clouds, went outside to chase a noisy Fox out of the garden. Solar Activity has been frequent of late. Even visible from Southern England.
Static is also caused by not enough humidity, so really dry air which cold makes worse.
Did you pop in and say ‘Hi’ to Cecilia Blomdahl and Christopher (spelt wrong!) actually I think they may be in Portugal at the minute? Cecilia is always posting the northern lights so you’re not too far north x
I hope you met up with Cecilia Blomdhal and glad you took Noah to the Huskey Cafe. I guess we will see as the videos keep coming
Yeah, bad planning😉 Svalbard and Longyearbyen surely must be more spectacular to visit during the spring/summer/fall when it's not pitch black 24/7. The Northern Lights you can watch here in Scandinavia!
OMG you are the third travel vloggers i have seen visiting this place in about 3 months , Noel Phillips , Steve Marsh , you however are the first family
