Those seem like really nice bows. But then I looked at the price and now I'm just happy to get my yinfente sometime this week.
But it's really interesting to see / hear what different bows do.

Thanks for the excellent reviews (and bow guide too - I found this really helpful). I would love a Musing bow!! Interesting hearing about the difference between the C2-C5. From the video I notice a little bit of the difference in the sound, particularly between the C3 then the C4 & C5 but it sounds like a lot of the difference is in the effort required to produce the sound and Guerdre is such a good player she makes all of them sound amazing!
Thanks for your great offer on the C2-C4 bows at the moment. Curious that you only have a special offer up to the C4 available... I am sooo tempted to purchase one from you though, particularly because as far as I can tell there is only one violin shop that stocks Musing bows in Australia and it is all the way in Perth!! 😢 Coda bows are much easier to come by here but I think based on your reviews I would save up and purchase a Musing C4 or C5. Having just bought two violins though I think I am going to have to wait and save up 😭. Hoping if I work really hard at practicing between now and June my hubby might be convinced to purchase one for me for my birthday in 🙏🎻😁 (By the way, if ever you need ideas for another competition prize I think a Musing bow would be an AMAZING idea 😉😉😍!)
Seriously I think for my level of playing I'd be happy with just a Fiddlerman Weave for a long time (and realistically this is probably all we can afford anyway... sigh) So if a Musing bow is off the cards for a while, it's probably better to at least upgrade to a carbon fiber bow in the meantime, right? Currently playing with the FPS bow that came with my violin.

To be very honest: the weave is a good bow, but it might not make an enormous difference towards the student bow you already have. I would suggest to wait a little bit, keep the money in your pocket and go for a Müsing C4 or C5 if you're ready. Another idea: the differences between the Müsing bows isn't enormous. The C2 is a very good bow that can do everything. Perhaps it's not possible in the near future to get a C4 or C5, but it is possible to get a C2... I would do that as I think you can enjoy it for many years. (BTW: if you want a good offer on a C5, shoot me an e-mail)

I will have a chat with my hubby about it, will definitely wait and save up for a Musing bow then (and when I get there would love to purchase it through you of course!) Also thanks so much for your thoughts on purchading the C2 vs waiting and getting a C4 or C5. From the review I was left feeling the C2 is great but why get a C2 if you can save an purchase a C5!
@@vanessahill3596 Oh yes, if you CAN purchase a C5, definitely get that one. If you can't and want a great bow, I'm sure the C2 will make you happy as well as it would be a big upgrade on the bow you currently have.

Do you know if is possible to get some bows for testing. So that I can compare some with others. I'm interested in the T- and P-Serie. I think the S-Serie is too light for me as a beginner. I also live in Germany.

So im trying the c3 but I wondering if I should just try the c2, like is the difference between the 2 worth the $200 difference in cost ?
I think it's worth it, but perhaps try the C2 and C4 as well as it's personal.

I posted this in another video on Musing and Arcus bows. I feel it's relevant here. I was addressing the maker:
Just hearing "epoxy" or "plastic" is a turn off. It really doesn't work that well at all.
Many of my colleagues in renowned orchestras use Arcus or Musings, but they were just after the "latest and greatest" thing. Sorry it's not for me, and many of my friends find them difficult to use as well.
Also may I ask: why do you try to make bows lighter and lighter? A player has to adjust their technique and for example: if one day their only Arcus bow breaks and they have to use a wooden (perhaps a nice Hill or Sartory) bow... what are they to do? Struggle with the weight difference?
I think all companies using carbon fibre should stay as close to the wooden weights/balances as possible. Am I wrong in saying that there is an Arcus bow available that weighs only 50 grams? I'm sure I read that there was one that was 48 grams as well, the Arcus 'S' ??? .... that's crazy and definitely unplayable by many professionals. Sorry to be a downer! :/
If I may ask: why is "the lighter bow the better?" I am a luthier and bow maker (although I don't sell my bows, I make them for myself). The best results line up with the older makers. 56 or 56 grams for a violin bow, 61 - 65 for a viola bow.... I understand the physics and yes: a too heavy bow will dampen the sound, a lighter bow will allow the instrument to give it's full sound potential.... but a too-light bow is just unwieldy and causes a weak sound. I've heard it's "pleasant" to the violinist who is playing... but for the love of all things holy, they can not be heard over a piano or orchestra.

Thanks for sharing your opinion, Liam. Yes, the Arcus bows come as light as 48 gram, but one shouldn’t compare this with a wood of 48 gram which are often unstable and weak. With carbon it’s possible to make a light bow that is firm and makes a big sound. You can read all about the physics on Arcus’ website. I won’t repeat it all in a small comment section here. For example Anne Akiko Meyers plays with Arcus bows and many other professionals, but if it’s not your thing, that’s ok too. Luckily there are as many different bows as there are players. 😊

I'm a violin maker, violin dealer/supplier, bow supplier. I would like to cal myself a bow maker too except that I don't make bows to sell. I make them for myself.
Obviously a very light bow allows the instrument to vibrate freely and loudly, and the opposite happens when using a heavy bow... it mutes the instrument.
I've now tried five different level of Arcus bows and only one or two made a great sound equal to the wooden bows I have. The lighter bows were unbelievably shrill and terrible for recording. It made it sound like my violin was made from aluminium.
Most of all (using Arcus) : all the bow strokes that I've been practising for years then had to be adjusted to achieve the right effect. For Sautille bowing I had to move further to the middle/top section of the bow, for rapid string crossing I had to use my forearm much more and a *very* loose wrist [almost losing control], and in some legato passages- the bow just stopped 'dead' in the string.
Yes, all bows are different, but whenever I've tried a newly acquired antique bow like a Voirin, Tubbs, Lupot, Peccatte, Maline, Knopf- I've never had to adjust as much as I did with the Arcus.... and the list of makers I just named made *very very very* different bows!
